One other thing regarding Cutler, I'm kinda tired hearing the "how many coaches has Cutler gotten fired" thing get tossed around. Out of all the OCs fired while Cutler has been a QB of a team, only Tice still has a job, and Atlanta was fucking laughable this year. He made a horrific sounding Martz gameplan look like it could work too. As for head coaches, he wasn't responsible for Lovie's firing, Shanny got fired in Denver not because of the offense (which is why Shanny being in Chicago sounds awful), and Trestman raised the bar for sucky HCs.

Kirk Cousins doesn't seem like he has the clout to be issuing ultimatums, but it's Washington so yeah.

Kirk may be in luck.  The Snyder-controlled hand puppet formerly known as Chris Cooley had this to say:

"Sorry," Cooley then said. "I like him. But he's a symbol of what's wrong right now with this team, or what potentially will be wrong in the future, what our owner does and doesn't do. And the owner's not leaving, and I don't think the coach should leave, and that symbol will remain. And it will remain polarizing [after] any loss in the future if he's here..."

"There are not a lot of great polarizing quarterbacks," Cooley said. "And I'm not blaming him."

I'm one of the few that likes Cutler, but that's partially because I like his complete dickhead attitude. Anyway, you don't get rid of Cutler until there's a suitable replacement. Don't forget, a year ago that team had one of the best offenses in the NFL. I'm fine with keeping Cutler and then work toward drafting a replacement. Even the, the QB isn't the Bears' biggest problem. Their defense is fucking horrible and a disgrace to what the Bears have been known for.

I think QB's take a lot of unnecessary heat when defenses are dumpster fires.  A QB cannot keep bailing out bad defenses week after week.  Conversely, a good defense can make a QB look better.

Jed is really fucking pissed at this presser lol.

Question: "You just let go a coach that averaged 12-wins a season. What is the expectation for the next coach?"

Jed: "To win the Super Bowl. We expect to win the Super Bowl every year."

Question: "What if the next coach has a couple years and you don't win the SB?"

Jed: "Then we'll have to figure out if he's the right fit."

Question: "When does Trent start being held accountable?"

Jed: "Do you have a stop watch?"

I really don't understand why San Fran let Harbaugh go. Others said the same about Lovie, but Lovie's Bears teams were so middling. Harbaugh seemed like he always had his teams in the playoffs hunt. So is the ownership and management of the 49ers really fucked, or is it something else?

Harbaugh pretty clearly lost that team. If he'd stuck around another year you would have seen another 8-8 (at best) season.

In a deal turned into NFL today, Tom Brady restructured his contract to give NE $24 million more in cash to spend this winter, per sources.

Under the new deal, Brady changed the $24 million in “skill” guarantee to only “injury” guarantee, meaning that Brady now would get the guaranteed money only if he were injured. Brady also now can be released from the Patriots without any liability, but he then would become an unrestricted free agent, free to command the type of guaranteed money he has agreed to surrender. This frees up cash for the Patriots to use on other players. New England needs the cash to help re-sign some of its own free agents such as Darrelle Revis, Devin McCourty, Nate Solder and Shane Vereen, amongst others.

Tom Brady left Bridget Moynahan while she was pregnant for a new woman.

They had a shitty coach in Singletary who lost the team, and a very good coach in Harbaugh who supposedly lost the team too? Maybe the problem is the players/front office and not the guy coaching the team.

It's asinine to let a guy go that had the success Harbaugh did. The names I'm hearing bandied about (Jim Mora, Pep Hamilton, Adam Gase) all seem like massive downgrades.

SF has a strange front office.  Before the Eagles hired Chip they asked about Roman and were told that he could not interview for head coaching jobs.

About a month later Tom Gamble left the 49ers during draft season to join the Eagles.  The reason at the time was he wanted to be close to an ill parent but the whole thing never sat well with me.

Supposedly, you cannot stop a coordinator from an upward move so the Gamble move was odd.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Same shit happened with Singletary, so honestly, who really is to blame? It's also lost on me how a successful HC with a successful team could be losing his players. Sounds more like the inmates were taking over the asylum.

I can't remember where I heard it but supposedly there are members of the Niners front office who felt that the last three years - San Fran had the best team in the NFL and the fact that they didn't win a Super Bowl was totally Harbaugh's fault.

Thus they wanted him gone

Harbaugh would have never fired Roman though and Roman is a terrible offensive coordinator. He draws up some nice running plays but he's terrible in the redzone among other issues. It's not all on Kaepernick either. Speaking of they didn't do much to free him up this year. The offense is most dangerous when Kaep is on the move.

You can't win games 20-17 every week. The offense was always terribly inconsistent.

The Bills will have lots of cap space since they have a lot of dead money coming off the books, so they can go get the 'best' FA QB available.  But.... uh not a lot of good options there.  I mean the 'top' QBs are Matt Moore, Shaun Hill, Locker, Vick, Hoyer, and Sanchez.  Maybe a trade for Cutler, but none of these names are filling me with confidence.  I know the goal is for Manuel to come around and he has shown bright spots here and there, but I'd like for them to get a solid veteran to come in to at least compete with him so he doesn't just get handed the job if he still doesn't show the ability to do it correctly.

With the Jets, I feel sorry most for Bill Barnwell and that "Yes, John Idzik has the Jets in the right direction" piece he wrote for Grantland back in October.

Grantland posts so much shitty stuff, I don't think any one remembers. . .

Yeah, he lost the team so much, they played their asses off in a meaningless season finale - and won it - before giving him the game ball and a Gatorade bath.
