Playing through Road To Elite as John Silver. Eliminated Andrade from the Battle Royal (didn't win), then wrestled him on the first Dynamite, beat him, formed a tag team with him, won the tag belts and then immediately turned on him because he stole my luggage.

Then I got recruited to join Death Triangle, and when I said Yes to joining they turned on me and I had a Light's Out match with Pac on a PPV, that was pretty much a three on one beatdown.

Then I went out for dinner and Brodie Lee showed up for a selfie and I got a bit choked up for a second.

That’s note for note the Road to Elite I had with Punk, except it was Hangman as the tag partner that was stealing luggage.

Start a second playthrough, and I got the same starting storyline. As Big Van Vader, and the partner is Jon Moxley who is about to steal my luggage 😐

The game also doesn’t do a great job of explaining how to do very basic actions. I lost the first match I played because I kept hitting the OWA too close to the ropes and couldn’t figure out how to drag Punk to the middle of the ring. The move list menu was no help.

Is there a way to pick your opponent up off the ground?

Tag matches are fucking annoying, but I’ll get into that later.

R1 on the PS, and presumably whatever the equivalent is on the XB or Switch.

Again, something that is not explained at all.

Mine hasn't arrived yet. Had to order it from England, hopefully I'll be playing within two weeks. I'm like a little kid in mid-December, looking forward to Christmas. I like that feeling! Really enjoying reading everyone's thoughts here. Helped re-set my expectations to "reasonable."

MOST of the things y'all don't seem to like seem to be things I can deal with. The positives, overall, seem like the important things to me, generally. I mostly just wanna playfight as Bryan, Kingston, Wardlow, Hobbs, Shida etc etc while on my weekly train commutes to and from Osaka and Kyoto. Sounds like the Switch version of that will scratch that itch pretty well.

Killing time by making CAWs, maybe not so much. I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll eventually expand that via updates.

Anyway. Found this. Sounds like it might be useful!

Still on my Kingston play through. After beating Brodie for the TNT title, Tony Khan said a sponsor wanted to pay for me and a friends dinner. Took Mox on a man date. Anna Jay didn’t like that. Mox turned on me (no luggage scene like everyone else though) and then Anna Powerbombed me through a table. PPV handicap match. I like that our paths are slightly different.

Who has it on Switch?

Apparently if you beat Brodie for the TNT title, that unlocks him in the store. But there's 3 or 4 different random storylines for that section of RTE, and he only appears in one of them, so you might potentially have to complete it a bunch of times to get him.

There's a similar thing in place to unlock Paul Wight. Who looks like AEW Paul Wight, but can inexplicably do moves he only did early on in WCW.

It’s pretty smart of them to make each PPV cycle into chapter blocks. I assume with future updates they’ll be able add more blocks/ storylines you can encounter. Kind of like how games like Fall Guys work with adding content each season. Right now they have blocks A, B, C. Maybe they’ll add like an D, E, F, etc.

👍 I’m having fun so far.

Having completed RTE as John Silver, I'm now playing as a CAW.

Of WARHORSE.

His AEW theme is in the game, but neither WAR nor HORSE were name options, so he's WH.

EDIT: And WARHORSE WON the Casino Battle Royal, eliminated 9 guys and I got a 7 star performance for it!

I got that man-date scene too. It’s a different story from the luggage stuff.

I was Punk, chose Danielson to do the dinner thing, and Rosa was the one that was jealous and eventually power moved me through a table at an autograph signing.

If you go into the Create a Wrestler mode and scroll the names, there's an awful lot of wrestler names pre-loaded. With Justin Roberts ring intros, even.

I played about 4 matches online and…liked it? The net code got a little weird during one of the matches, but I enjoyed it.

I can't play online right now, there's a glitch on the PS4 version where the game quits out to an error screen instead of launching a match. The quick fix is to take your machine offline. So playing online is impossible, until they come up with a non-quick fix.

The way online works when it does work for you is weird. So let’s say you want to play 1v1 online. In the background it’s like creating a small lobby of other people searching to play the same match type. Let’s say it’s a handful of people. Your player A and you take on player B. Your match ends and then you select to play another match. It then puts you up against player C in your group. The time for getting another match going this time around is shorter because you’re already in a group. Then after that match ends, 1 or more people from the group have quit out so you can’t just jump into playing the next match. You’ll get an error message and then you need to back out to the main menu and start all over again.

I get what they were going for by making it faster to get into your next match, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen online matchmaking ever happen like this.

I played a Casino Battle Royal and I have no idea how selecting wrestlers works.  I picked hearts and Jon Moxley, but somehow ended up playing as Chuck Taylor.  I fought through the who thing, handing out Awful Waffles like my name was IHOP, and won.  The match got six stars.

I'm still reading the past couple pages of comments and agree with a lot of the gripes but overall I'm pretty happy with this game. I'm disappointed I didn't preorder, I bought the Elite Edition but still don't have Matt Hardy. Not a huge deal to most but he's one of my all-time favorites and it feels silly having Jeff but not Matt.

The gameplay has been pretty fun, I put it on Hard mode to balance it out more. I really wish there were sliders for match settings as it seems too easy to win/lose sometimes. That said I like it a lot more than the last WWE 2K game I played. I'm pretty happy with the roster too. As someone who has played these games since the late 90s they have pretty much all of the big names here. Samoa Joe and Claudio are the big standouts as far as omissions, as well as Jamie Hayter. Otherwise I think they have a good mix of originals and the bigger acquisitions. I'm sure I'll update later with more thoughts, but despite how barebones the game seems at first glance I'm having a blast trying out all the different wrestlers. Hopefully DLC and the like can improve it even more. Tomorrow I'll try out the Career mode and see how that goes.

Also I can't get enough of playing as Orange Cassidy. They did a great job folding his schtick into the game and really making it work.

Fuck, I forgot to comment on the completely arbitrary star rating system. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Again, I like and appreciate it because it's fucking hilarious for how weird the star ratings are. WWE 2K has done star ratings pretty well for awhile now so Yukes should have an idea for how that stuff would work, but in this it's just a bizarre mess. I had a tag match go over 10 minutes with a ton of reversals, including Punk reversing my finisher and then hitting me with the GTS only for Sting to break up the pin. It was probably the most exciting match I've had. 2 stars. Next match lasted 3 minutes with me just spamming strikes and hitting a few moves to get up to a special. 3 1/2 stars. Ok then, lol.

I think I figured it out. The star ratings seem less to be about how entertaining/good the match was and more how dominant you were at the game or your performance in beating someone up. So a quick squash with a variety of rapid moves would get a higher rating than a epic long match.

Again, I could be very wrong. But that’s what I’m picking up on.

You play as the entire group you pick. So lets say the hearts group was Chuck, Mox, Sting, Kingston and Silver. You would play as Chuck until he was eliminated then Mox would come out and you would play as him, and so on

Ok, little man got pretty good at this and beat me!

I was surprised to see Louisville as a stop on career mode seeing as how they’ve never come here (dammit!). I wasn’t sure if the restaurants were made up places, but they are. Or at least the Louisville one is.

Oh, damn! Just saw that the restaurant in Chicago is called “Wesley’s Headbutt”. Nice shout out to the late Wesley Willis.

I wound up finishing RTE with Eddie. Despite losing every match on the few weeks before DoN, it still put me in a 4 way for the World Title. I wound up winning in a really cheap way. Kenny hit a OWA on Jericho, then grappled with Moxley and I stole the pin.

Here's to hoping that happens to Eddie Kingston in real life.

Finished RTE for the first time with Orange Cassidy, and that is indeed a strange mode. During my first block, I won the tag titles with Hangman…but then never defended them and, in fact, never saw Hangman again except during a sightseeing cut scene that had nothing to do with us being champs. Then I got the Death Triangle block that everybody seems to be getting, and I actually won the match that turns into a 3-on-1 handicap match by getting PAC counted out.

Third block built to an exploding bar wire death match with Mox, which was fun, and I felt like I should’ve been building to a singles title challenge after that. But then my fourth block was all about the mystery of who was ribbing me, and so my final PPV was an impromptu match where I correctly called out Miro, and then beat him in, like, one minute because I already had a special going when the match started (I assume because I guessed the ribber’s identity right). Super anticlimactic.

I unlocked Brodie Lee yesterday. Had to get to the Join the Dark Order block to do it. Been discus lariat-ing motherfuckers all over the place.

Currently trying to hit 100 exhibition matches to unlock Owen.
