Raziel
You mean a species of hellspawn not occuring naturally and instead being engineered by a psychotic Andriod with a God Complex built by someone to find God and acheive immortality doesn't do it for you?
turk128
Paddington 2 was shockingly fantastic. It's hard to describe just how great a general audience movie it is... like it's the ideal Disney family movie. It's like sunshine and wholesome goodness and fun and optimistic as fuck! Hugh Grant totally steals every scene he is in and was clearly loving it. Sally Hawkins' hobby being long distance swimming is as a wink-nudgey as it gets. The first movie had it's heart in the right place but the execution was awkward. Totally agree with Sublime that this sequel is vastly better so much so that the first isn't required to watch. And, yes, totally deserving of the 100% RT.

But yeah, a lot of these movies are "Supposedly smart people doing astronomically dumb shit" to advance the plot. I think Elba's character in Prometheus was the only guy that did shit right, and that ultimately failed because Shaw fucked up later. Reveal hidden contents The airborne thing might've been a callback to one of the several early Alien 3 script idea. But ultimately didn't mean a damn thing, because David evolved them into the facehugger eggs to get to the real early Xeno's anyway. If I remember correctly, he went ahead and fucked Charlize Theron while all the other dumbshits were down on "Not LV-426" getting their shit wrecked? Yeah, smartest guy in the movie. Yeah, smartest guy in the movie. Well I was more refering to him deciding that no matter what that Engineer ship could not leave the planet so he did the only thing he could and flew Prometheus into it, but yeah, nailing Charlize Theron while everyone else was being dumb was also smart.

Control
Considering what a voracious film viewer and all-around nerd I am, I find it astonishing that I haven’t seen any Hammer Horror films or watched a single Godzilla movie.
Curt McGirt
Control, all I got to say is, you got some catching up to do. Get to it, and have fun watching! Went out to see Annihilation with my friends today and however well made it was, it was enormously depressing. There are several theories about the film but I will stand at that it is a parable for Spoiler addiction. Cancer and marriage have also been floated but you can really read into it what you want, which might say a lot about you as a person and what you've been through. In any case, it's really good. I also finally got through the remake of It and goddamn, it's long. Despite that it's great too -- even the CGI, which I would regularly despise. I'll go so far as to say it's better than the miniseries, if they nail the follow-up. Take in mind this is coming from someone who never finished the book in high school and never came back to it though. Boy, that's a lot of Its

I personally find it astonishing that I have yet to see the middle film of the official Karnstein Trilogy, Lust For A Vampire. Zimbra
Finally got around to watching the new Ghostbusters this weekend and thought it was pretty alright. I enjoyed the performances, especially the leads, but they were let down by a mediocre script. They went way too dumb with Chris Hemsworth's character, and it bugged me that there was a human antagonist instead of just, you know, ghosts. It also had a really fun "Oh hey it's that guy" supporting cast (Ed Begley Jr! Nate Corddry! Zach Woods!).

Curt McGirt
Unfortunately I'd probably have to buy the movies to watch 'em; no streaming services over here. Is there a package deal on the trilogy floating around out there?

I've seen each individual movie available on DVD and available for purchase on various sites such as Amazon, but TMK there has been no official Hammer box set of the trilogy offered up for sale. Perhaps we should send a strongly worded e-mail to Criterion?

(BP)
Really fell down a rabbit hole here. Allow me to introduce Robert Bronzi. Robert seems to be an affable man with an impenetrably thick accent of indeterminate origin who also happens to look hauntingly similar to Charles Bronson. Up until recently this has led to some look-alike gigs for Robert, but how much demand is there for a Charles Bronson at celebrity tribute shows? Spoiler But this past year some low budget film makers with an entrepreneurial carny spirit have discovered Robert. In 2017 he starred in his first movie, From Hell to the Wild West, which, you guessed it, is cowboy Charles Bronson archetype versus Jack the Ripper. Certainly a fun concept, but this is a softcore porn level production. In fact, a Caligula-style cut of added sex scenes wouldn't look out of place at all and would pad out the runtime to feature length. Robert's character barely speaks and is dubbed as to not break the illusion. Up next this year is Death Kiss, which appears to be the unlicensed Death Wish sequel co-starring a Baldwin I never knew I wanted. No, I won't look up which Baldwin. It's a big step up production wise from the first film and even if it's still cheap trash, it's curiously well made cheap trash with a hook. Anyway, I kind of like this guy and I'm charmed by the Bowfingeresque nonsense that these film makers are getting up to. I'd definitely check Death Kiss out before I'll watch that Eli Roth remake.
