40 years ago today - Midnight Express vs Fantastics from Mid-South

Mid South 1984 07-29-84 The Fantastics vs The Midnight Express Oklahoma City (youtube.com)

For my money, these tag teams had the highest quality of matches across a long-running tag rivalry that I've ever seen. The MX switched out Condrey for Lane and didn't miss a beat working the Fantastics.

In case I don't end up watching that: Did their touring match get over in front of the Japanese fans?

watching these Flair matches has me realizing that much like Hogan, Flair seemed re realize he needed to break out of his touring match formula and work more. he does a lot more amateur style wrestling than I've seen before out of him

Just a heads up to everyone who uses Archive.org, grab things you'd like. One of the biggest puro obscurity accounts, our archive, got deleted.

From what I read on Twitter or X or whatever the shiznit it's supposed to be called. The actual page that lists everything is toast, but the files themselves are still there. So you can use the search bar for the show or promotion you're looking for and find it.

Yeah, that's one good thing but there was so much random stuff that it's hard to remember it all. I'm going to contact them through Patreon and see if they have a list of their uploads.

Championship Wrestling From Florida (4/25/1984, aired 4/28/1984): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAuHJd05Moc

Spoiler

Mike Rotundo hangs around the table this week. Panama Gang pledges to get revenge on Dusty Rhodes after a Black Bart squash. Gordon Solie gives us notices of missing children. Kevin Sullivan and the Midnight Rider are facing suspensions as Dusty insists he is not the Midnight Rider. Kevin Sullivan/Buzz Sawyer vs Adrian Street/Dusty sounds like a matchup. Dusty took a gnarly bladejob. If they want to suspend Dusty, they know where he lives. Let's take a look at Blackjack Mulligan, who is returning to Florida. We hear some Willie Nelson during this video. Barry Windham squashes a dude quick. Superstar Graham tells us he does not sign autographs. Oh yes, Superstar Graham is coming out to "Kung Fu Fighting" and he squashes a guy. Kevin Sullivan and Kharma in action against dudes. The Purple Haze is coming back and Kevin Sullivan has a snake. "Miami: Crisis or Paradise", Barbara Clary takes a trip though Miami! Dusty Rhodes addresses a high school assembly. Dusty tells the kids that wrestling in front of crowds gives him a higher high than drugs. Then Dusty brings out Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo. Hector and Chavo Guerrero join Gordon at the desk. I've typed this before, but Eddie is so much like Hector. Cowboy Ron Bass squash. JJ and Ron Bass are at the desk to close the show. Love how Gordon Solie's hair stylist got a plug in the credits of the show

I was watching a bunch of 82 Florida yesterday since it just showed up on YT again. It was funny to have almost no Dusty and no Sullivan and Barry still looking like Blackjack Jr. but did get heel David Von Erich.

Buddy Rose/Doug Somers vs. the Midnight Rockers

I was scanning the DVDVR #100 yet again because of watching Rude/Chono and this was on there; haven't seen it in ages. You wanna talk hot, the Showboat in Vegas looks like it's gonna bust out in a riot. Buddy Rose is listed at "217 (?) lbs." and Sherri Martel is with them to balance out the ugliness. This could probably just go in the blood thread too because I remember it looking like a slaughterhouse in there by the end. Let's watch!

EDIT: You know what this might as well be? The super hot tag match in '80s lucha that leads to an apuestas. After this they had the cage match blowoff but this one was so molten it had to go that way. The heels cut off Shawn Michaels for the longest time and he pinballs all over like a man losing his legs (probably his best feature really). At one point Doug Somers holds him out to Marty with the most evil look of triumph on his face before pulling him back again. The 100 review said Doug was vanilla but all his punches and stomps are high grade and at one point he busts out a cool standing dropkick, which is probably the only move you can name from this. Shawn bleeds, then he bleeds, then Marty comes in and jesus he looks like someone shot him in the face after Buddy bites him. You really want Vanilla, the B-team led by Greg Gagne running in at the end is that. Otherwise this is a good old chocolate sundae with extra raspberry sauce.

Damn, I had never seen that and it ruled.  Rose might be an even better stagger-leg seller than Funk.

The blood drops on the camera lens as Sherri led Somers away was a real cherry on top.

Early Barry Windham's lariat finisher was amazing looking. No idea when he stopped doing that but even when Barry was tall and skinny, the visual of him whipping the guy off the ropes and then bouncing off the ropes to clothesline the guy looked great

That looked like a tornillo forearm or something. Hell of a finish for that era.

This was a thoroughly entertaining piece of work. Sullivan running with the snake towards the crowd and acting like he was gonna jump the rail, man. And I'm not sure if Dusty bladed his chest or his head or both! He looked like he got the Bugsy Siegel treatment.

August 1984 Florida Wrestling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThPWELR09to

In which Jim Neidhart is referred to as "Jim Nighthart" in the on-screen graphics and Gordon says that Jim Neidhart finished 5th in the Shot Put during the 1976 Olympics (he did not). Also the Rock'n'Roll Express is coming to Florida and Barbara Clary speaks Spanish to tell us about the upcoming show in Miami Beach.
