AEW - MARCH 2024

This year's Forbidden Door is AEW, NJPW, CMLL and Stardom. So hopefully lots of trios tags or a whole lot of people aren't making the card.

I like Bowens, but I just don't see it. He's fine in the ring, but you put him next to Ospreay, Swerve, MJF... Even guys farther down the card like Garcia and Buddy... He's just not at that level.

I like Bowens, but I think we need to see more from him as a single before we can make a fair call on his potential. He hasn't had the singles opportunity that, for instance, a Dax Harwood has had. Bowens is doing great in his role as a tag specialist, which is all that is currently being asked if him. If he gets a string of singles matches, like maybe in the Owen Tournament this year, maybe a better assessment can be made.

The QHs are probably online somewhere, but I suspect that 801k for last night was probably not helped by how the show was laid out and the whole "oh yeah, our main event is this, just telling you a few minutes beforehand" thing. That's not a specific shot at Willow/Riho, I suspect any main event that was handled like that would have went over like that in the ratings.

I like both Willow and Riho but you're asking some fans who don't normally watch AEW to sit around for two hours on the chance that Mercedes will show up again.  Her segment did 1 million.  The main event did 632K or something like that.

I'm not blaming Tony, I liked having those women be the focal point of the show and the booking lately has been good in the company overall.  Ratings should improve with time.

Really, if not for the whole desire to end the show with Mone, they should have ended the night with the implosion of Bang Bang Scissor Gang.

Putting Joe's title defense that early in the show was sort of an "angle alert" thing which really didn't lead to much of an angle aside from a reminder that "Swerve still wants to get Joe".

This probably isn't just a AEW thing, but TV main events almost exist in an isolation chamber where you don't see the people in that match until just before they go on.

if Kate Middleton showed up on AEW Dynamite, I think they could average 825k for the show. Depending on if she shows up during the part of the show where people are switching off of Big Bang Theory and some of them stick around

The current power brokers grew up in an era where commentators were instructed to ignore what was happening in the ring in favour of shilling the fact that Hulk Hogan would be out for the main event, and hated it.

Tony Schiavone hated his job, at that time.

I'm kinda surprised that with how people consume media now (short attention span, skimming thru content, etc) AEW hasn't really tried to front load the shows with the best stuff first.

They've experimented with this on Rampage a bit, and that was how the old SNME were back in the 80s.

I mean, I'm sure there are very valid reasons when it comes to rating averages and selling commercial time not to do this... and it would certainly fuel some of the online narrative that Dynamite just appears to be successful because it siphons BBT rerun ratings, but it would put the most eyes on the key content.

Hopefully she doesn’t show up in the women’s death time slot of quarter 7.

Jericho would want to be in Kate Middleton's segments to get the rub off of her recent popularity

The Royal Family might not be right wing enough for Jericho.

Don't they regularly front load the show? This show opened with a huge debut followed by a World Title match followed by Okada's Dynamite in-ring debut followed by Will Ospreay. The last two segments were arguably the weakest potential draws.

My memory is telling me that they usually start off Dynamite & Collision with either a Jon Moxley or Orange Cassidy match, and usually end the show with the "main event".  They typically do try to start off the show it's a big match with top stars.

What I am saying is they need to completely go backwards with how they air the card - start off with the biggest "main event" match, and then work down from there.

I said the Triller TV 3 PPV bundle was 49.99e, in fact that was dollars. The purchase price for me was 59.99e, but it is done now, in any case. Not much of an offer, but at least I'll be set until summer.

When I saw your original post I was assuming it was anti-Irish practice by Triller charging me 10 euro more than my Scandinavian neighbours! Which raised ancestral bitterness in me seeing as my hometown was raided by the Vikings back in the day....

Re: Injuries/Disappearances
Mox/Claudio not be included in the tag tournament after coming off a victory against FTR on the PPV has me wondering about an injury. Not to say this is the case, but these Injuries/Disappearances have become a greater disservice to the talent than any kind of decisive match loss. An update with mention of an undisclosed injury and a promo or two while out would be exponentially better than this rotten disappearing act. Anybody remember that guy named Wheeler Yuta?

Curious how '97 Steve Austin would have been effected by disappearing for 3 months without mention, rather than all the talk and shenanigans he pulled on TV each week, after the Owen loss? Er, sure, Steve Austin would've been fine, but those 3 months in between were huge for his rising star.

Ratings talk, an argument for TK to let everyone know about potential injuries and/or why someone isn’t on TV… goddamn, the feeling really is restored.
