MLB 2023 - 1ST HALF

Dolfan in NYC

Recommended Posts

Oh, Buster Olney pointed out, that the '62 Mets finished with a 40-120 record and a run differential of -331.  This is widely considered the worst team ever fielded.

As of Sunday, the 2023 A's are on pace to win 35 games with a run differential of -588.

Oakland, while playing in a stadium roughly twice the size of the Grand Canyon, has a team ERA of 7.21. That's half a run worse than the worst ever (6.71, 1930 Phillies). Unbelievable.

Made the mistake of putting Blair & Barker on in the background earlier, and they spent so much time talking about this nothingburger. And now we’re getting pre-game quotes of Schneider doubling down. His guy was tipping pitches, he should just own it and move on good grief.

This Jays/Yanks series has A LOT going on

First the Jays dugout had a hissy fit over where the Yanks 3b coach was standing but that was just the appetizer because Yanks starter Domingo German got tossed after a foreign substance check

Anibal Sanchez has announced his retirement

This was that one completely random year when the Marlins almost made it to the playoffs because Girardi could basically do no wrong as a manager. But he almost got fired mid-season because.... *checks notes* had to tell the fucking owner to stop heckling the home base umpire.  And got fired after that season anyway, while winning the NL MotY.

Marlins baseball!

Had some good years with Detroit, including leading the league in ERA while pitching on a staff with 3 other guys who won Cy Young awards.

Cubs DFA Eric Hosmer because they had to see for themselves that he sucked and not use the last 7 years as proof

I think they were impressed by his slugging% somehow being lower than his OBP with Boston last year.

We have officially hit DFAing bad contract time (thought it really started with Aaron Hicks)

The Royals have shown Hunter Dozier the door. He is still owed $25 million over this season and next.

The Guardians Will Brennan killed a bird with a ground ball last night

Quote

The rookie Cleveland Guardians outfielder hit a hard grounder that accidentally killed a bird wandering on the infield grass during the second inning of Monday night's 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

With none out and a runner at first base, Brennan, a left-handed hitter, went the other way with a 92.6 mph fastball from Chicago's Jesse Scholtens. The liner connected with a small bird that had wandered into a dangerous place.

The ball, clocked at 100.1 mph, sent the bird flying, and when Brennan got to first, he put his hands on his helmet and grimaced. Umpires called time, allowing a member of the grounds crew to remove the dead bird with a shovel.

And last week the D-backs Zac Gallen killed a bird during warmups

Quote

Last week, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen unintentionally struck and killed a bird while warming up in the outfield before a game against the Oakland Athletics. Gallen threw a curveball that hit the bird in midflight.

Christopher Morel will look to tie Tim Anderson's record of having 12 consecutive games with at least one hit and at least one run. He is presently the only good thing about this Cubs team. I'm enjoying it while it lasts before he starts K'ing at a historic rate.

Hopefully the Mariners getting rid of both AJ Pollock and Kolton Wong is next but I doubt it.

not that the deal is much better but he's owed closer to $15M. The remainder of a $7.25M 2023 salary, $9M for 2024, and the $1M buyout for a $10M club option for 2025.
