I was at Walmart tonight. They had both PS5 and Series X consoles in stock. First time I've ever seen either one of them in the wild.

I just wrapped up the campaign for Diablo 4 and that alone would be well worth my money but who knows how many more hours I'll put into this. I played as a Barbarian and will either roll Sorcerer or Necro next. I still need to look for groups and figure out more multiplayer stuff but I'm having a blast as is for now

It's been a couple of years since release.  I'm actually surprised it took this long for stores to have them in stock.

I'm level 49 with my Barb and have switched to just picking up side quests, but actually working towards completing the game.

I'll say this - this is probably the best Diablo story they've ever told. At this point for where I'm at, which is right at the start of act 4, I'm impressed at how much ambiguity there is to what Lilith is actually up to. There are moments where she's in this Thanos type of space where, hey, you have a good idea, but you're just an asshole. Other times she's straight up villainous. And not to spoil anything, but...

Spoiler

Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto being on the side of not really liking Lilith just adds to the mystery of what Lilith is actually up to.

Not to mention that Inarius is a real dick and doesn't seem like he can be trusted.

Something else that stands out is that it really feels like they're totally ignoring or even retconning anything from Diablo 3, which is probably for the best I suppose.

I'm just looking forward to finishing this campaign and playing on Nightmare. At some point my friends and I are going to give Hardcore mode a go, but with the caveat that we're only doing it once.

That's what I've said to myself every time I've looked and they didn't have any.

I jumped at getting that PS5 at Xmas not knowing theat they were now easily available. I might not have bought it if I had known that.

My sister got her PS5 last summer so that we could continue the tradition of trading consoles when something came out that the other person wanted to play.

Had she known they'd be this available now, she probably would've waited.. but that means I wouldn't have gotten to play Ghost of Tsushima until this year.

I know the first couple of hours are the worst thing to judge it on, but I am not digging Diablo IV so far.  Combat feels slow and clunky compared to 3, but doesn't have the same satisfying chunkiness that, say, Grim Dawn does.  Not crazy about all the MMO-ish features tacked on with all the world events and currencies and whatnot.  I'm already dreading what I'm going to have to do with all these different fucking resources I'm supposed to collect.

I'll still probably put 300 hours minimum into it.

To be honest, the first couple hours are the worst of it. Thankfully, you only have to do it once provided you complete the campaign and get to Nightmare with at least one character you roll. And you think that's bad, I preordered the ultimate version only to find out that the mount I was promised isn't unlocked until just before Act 4 or right when Act 4 starts, which is pretty deep into the campaign. Again, thankfully, once you unlock the mount, you then get that mount at level 1 for any class you play after that so you don't have to go through that bullshit again. There's other stuff you only have to do once, like getting Renown in all the different areas in the game. The map is broken up into various areas and when you complete dungeons, find statues, and do other events in those areas you get Renown, which gets you bonuses like extra ability points, extra potion slots, etc. That all sticks around to every other class you'll play. So that's nice.

The currency really isn't that big of a deal. Once you get to level 40, start alternating between selling your entire inventory once it's full and then the next time it's full just salvage it all for materials. That will quickly get you into the millions of gold and tons of materials you'll need to upgrade high end armor and weapons. The only other currency that matters are Obols. Obols are the equivalent of money you can play at a slot machine. There's a vendor in town that will sell a random item for you for Obols. Most times it's a rare, other times it's a Legendary that you can then take to a vendor to extract the aspect from it and then you can apply that aspect to whatever you want. You don't need to worry about Platinum, that's just for cosmetics, and you don't need to worry about the PVP currency unless you really care about PVP in this game.

I could already be in Torment but I'm not interested in rushing things. I'm interested in how you guys view the story after you've finished. I think that the entirety of Act 6 is going to have a huge, HUGE impact on the world of Sanctuary. Lilith at the end does make a very good point and I wonder how you all will view the epilogue.

I dunno how the fuck the 'completion' time for Diablo IV on howlongtobeat is 33 hours for "main campaign + extras". My brother and I are playing it together and I'd like to think we are quite good at the game, at no point have we both died at the same time and most deaths are just silly things. But we have played at least 20 hours and are just now starting Act 3. I have probably spent 10% of my time doing inventory management, upgrading shit, doing gem shit, specing and re-specing.... do some players not do that? My brother's theory is that people speed through the Veteran difficulty and will take their time more on the higher ones, which makes sense, we are going at a slower pace and not rushing anything. But its a fun game, we are enjoying it.

I'm making my way through Diablo IV now, though I'm not nearly as far along as a lot of you folks are. I'm at level 15-16 with my Whirlwind Barb (the classics are the classics for a reason), and I've gotten my ass kicked a bunch of times because of my general attitude of "sure, I can be surrounded by 10 enemies and fight my way out" regardless of what it is.

Still enjoying the hell out of it, but I'm one of those people who hits up every damn side quest he sees on the map before continuing on with the main story, so I don't know how long it's going to take me to even get through Act I, let alone anything beyond that. Definitely going to get my money's worth out of this one, methinks.

33 hours to beat Diablo 4?! Like...how? I'm kind of in the same boat where I've mostly mainlined the main story except to do enough quests to complete some Renown stuff and I don't even want to think about how much time I've sunk into the game.

My big problem right now is that I'm still on chapter 4. I thought I could blow right through that and right after the start of chapter 4, so after you fight that one boss, you go to town and then there are two locations you have to go to. On the way to one was a side quest and normally side quests are just 1 and done.

Not this fucking side quest. If you've done it, it's the one where the woman has arcane powers and the town hates her. There are so many freaking parts to this side quest and I haven't done anything else quite like it up to this point. In addition to running back and forth, and escorting the NPC around, I've had to do 2 or 3 different dungeons. Every time I think it's done, it's not. The next destination for it is on the eastern most part of the map. I finally put it off to keep doing the main story. That was 2 or 3 hours of my night last night thinking, ok, I'll just do this last part of the quest and...FUCK...THERE'S MORE?!?...Fine, whatever, I'll do this last part of the quest and then get to the main stor...My god, there's still more to this side quest...

That has been the biggest single distraction I've had while doing the main story. And I'm also in the boat where I max out my inventory half or 3/4 of the way through any single story beat, so I constantly TP back to town, vendor or salvage my inventory or change around my gear, then TP back to where I was, etc. There's no way I'm going to beat this game in under 40 hours.

BUT, I haven't regretted any time I've sunk into it and it's been a good story. Right now for where I'm at they're going to use a soulstone...for a thing...and surely, surely that's going to blow up in our faces so I'm looking forward to that.

Whether it's World Tier 1 or 2, the difficulty level is totally different than Diablo 3. D3 you could do what you were describing and rarely die. I played a Necromancer in D3 and never had a problem. I mostly played while watching something on my other monitor. You take so much more damage in D4 and if you're melee, they've really forced you to use the dodge move for enemies. There are points with goatmen and later other enemy types where I wish I had more than 2 dodges and a jump move to get out of the way of attacks.

I mean, I'm level 50 and 3 points into the Paragon stuff and I still have boots from when I was level 30 or whatever just because the boots give me an extra dash move and I haven't come across any other piece of armor to give me a dash move AND be an upgrade over that particular piece of gear to let me change the boots I'm using.

Rend build worked a lot better for me until I got past 50 because rage is so much harder to get than in 3. But if you insist on WW, getting a +2 to WW on your gloves is a must have. Rubies in your armor, skulls in your jewelry and +life in your helm, chest, and boots will help the game feel a lot better.

Gambling has gotten me quite a few decent legendaries so don’t forget that when you are behind in a piece of gear.

Seems like a lot of us are playing Diablo right now. Would be cool if we could form some groups in the future. I'm definitely down to send my Barbarian to help out with the capstone dungeon that unlocks nightmare mode. Even though I beat the main campaign earlier this week there is still so much left that I haven't seen, really enjoying my time with this game.

I solo'd the capstone dungeon to hit Nightmare and it was honestly a breeze. Last night and the night before we were doing Helltides and using sigils to run Nightmare dungeons. The highest level sign we used was level 4 and with three of us it was pretty easy. Then we noticed it goes all the way up to level 20 and that made us pee our pants a little thinking about how hard that would be.

Two of us in our group, me and another friend, went to do a world boss. It was looking a little dicey, but we had him nearly dead with 5 minutes left to go. Our 3rd and 4th friends then TP’d into the world boss fight and everything simply stopped. The boss and half of the people fighting with us all disappeared. Come to find out there’s a bug where if people TP into your existing fight then it can simply pull you out of the world boss fight. My friend and I who had spent 12 minutes doing it were pretty annoyed we came all that way and walked away with nothing. Hopefully another world boss fight pops tonight.

So after the other day when my friends and I decided to use a sigil and run a nightmare dungeon at tier 4, we decided last night to try one at tier 13. We barely made it. Everything was at level 66 and above. I'm 55, my one friend is a 60 Rogue, and the other friend is a 58 Necro. Part of using the sigils to run nightmare dungeons is that it makes modifiers to the dungeons to make them harder in addition to them just being harder in general. So for this tier 13 sigil, it added nightmare portals that would randomly open up and let monsters just start pouring out. You have to attack the portals to close them. And by randomly, I mean they open up constantly and in the middle of big fights against elites. You get a maximum of 12 deaths without a friend resurrecting you or else you lose the dungeon. We beat the dungeon with 1 life left.

The thing with using these sigils to run these dungeons is that it's the only way to level up your Glyphs on your Paragon board.

So, we thought, hey, we beat a tier 13 dungeon, before we go to bed, let's try tier 14. That was way easier because it didn't cause nightmare portals to spawn. I think we only died a few times during that and while the enemies were a level tougher, our 58 Necro a few times was the only one alive and just ran around dropping AOE and soloing enemies until he could resurrect us.

We NEVER had this much fun or looked forward to this much of a challenge with Diablo 3. As I continue playing the game though, some things definitely stick out and these are mostly quality of life issues. One is that you can't complete a dungeon without stopping midway through to dump your inventory off in town. That's anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes where you're halting your momentum because you picked up so much shit. I'm not saying I want there to be fewer loot drops, but it would maybe help if there were a separate inventory slot just for gems, that would help. There's separate slots for consumables, quest items, and Aspects. Add a gem bag or something that has 10 slots in it just for gems or something.

A bigger issue has been the netcode. All weekend long we were getting hammered by lag spikes, packet drops, etc. The lag spikes typically leads to deaths because all of your actions, like trying to heal yourself, become unresponsive.

At my current pace I should finish Diablo IV right around the time that Diablo V will be ready to drop.

Though I will say that I switched from a Whirlwind Barb to a Hammer of the Ancients build and it seems to be going okay so far.
