RIPPA
5 hours ago, Cobra Commander said: Yeah the LDS scheduling is the result of the lockout, right? Because 1-1-3 doesn’t seem to be too friendly to the higher seed From an Athletic article last week Spoiler The American League Division Series will include off-days after both Games 1 and 2, with Games 3, 4 and 5 played on consecutive days (the off-days previously came after Games 2 and 4). And, to help make up for time missed during the ever-popular owners’ lockout, the only off-day in the NLDS and both League Championship Series will come after Game 2. That’s right, Games 3 through 7 of both championship series, if necessary, would be played over five straight days. Prior to this season, the league staggered the starts of the ALDS and NLDS to ensure games took place every day. This year, the AL is moving up from Wednesday to Tuesday so that both leagues will start on the same day. The idea is to reduce the down time for the top two seeds in the AL. Some clubs expressed concern that a longer layoff, even by one day, would put those clubs at a disadvantage. The four teams that earn byes already are getting a five-day break. The change, however, could hurt the top AL seeds in another way, putting the teams that advance from the wild-card round at less of a handicap. Say such a team uses its top relievers three straight days in the wild-card round. With only one off-day before the start of the ALDS, its bullpen still might be gassed. But the off-days after Games 1 and 2 should provide ample opportunity for a reset, and allow more rest for starting pitchers, too. The new format bears similarity to the one the league used after the shortened 2020 campaign, when it played the DS and LCS straight through. All of those games, however, took place at one site. If, for example, the Mets advance to face the Dodgers, Game 4, if necessary, would be in New York on Oct. 15, and Game 5, if necessary, would be in Los Angeles on Oct. 16. So much for reducing chaotic travel! Wait, it gets hairier. If the Mets then advanced to face the Braves or Phillies in the NLCS (and yes, for the purposes of this exercise, we’re assuming the Cardinals would be out), they then would need to fly cross-country again to start the next series. Their travel after that would be strictly along the east coast, but the entirety of their challenge — surviving the wild-card round, then enduring cross-country flights in a tense DS and to start the NLCS — might leave them exhausted. The 2021 Dodgers, another 100-plus-win team that did not win its division, lost to the Braves in the NLCS in part because they never recovered from the grind of being a wild-card qualifier. For the Mets, expending Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer in the wild-card round only will add to their degree of difficulty, forcing them to use another pitcher to open the DS on the road if they advance. Like, his strike zone was literally over 3 feet wide. But only against the Braves. What are the Braves supposed to do there? He was calling unhittable pitches strikes. Cobra Commander
you wouldn't know it from today's game, but the Regular Season Yankees hit slightly better in day games than night games Although their top day game bats are: 16 PAs of Tim Locastro (who pinch-ran today), 55 PAs of Carpenter (who pinch hit), Aaron Judge, 25 PAs of Oswald Peraza (not on the roster), and DJ LeMahieu (injured). Higashioka and Benintendi are over .840. Torres is .798. And that's literally the only 8 guys on the roster whose Day OPS is over .755 At night? Carpenter and Judge and 3 PAs of Rob Brantly are the only Yankees with Night OPSes above .854. But you have Rizzo and Stanton hitting a lot better at night.
