I haven't played this in a bit. Combination of being busy with other shit and some new tracks showing up on Mario Kart. So, I finally do get on yesterday and find that my son has been playing under my account and he's won all of the singles titles with Owen Hart.

Tried to get Big Show and quit out of every match and that didn't work I got stuck with the Elite take over storyline SMH. Also the some of the detection options in the mini games is off. Multiple times in the "Where Orange" and "Spot the Difference" games I hovered over the image and it didn't detect it.

I think you need to put the pointy thing under OC to win. I lost the first round even though he easily spotted him. Second and third round I used the pointy thing and won.

Still haven't unlocked Owen Hart despite getting the trophy and everything. I'm sure I'll eventually get him one day. I won all the belts with Kenny and was happy to see him carry them all in his entrance, as well as use each of them as weapons during a match. Game is still worth it just to play as Orange Cassidy, I can't get enough of it.

Did you go into the store and buy him? The hidden characters don't just show up in the roster. You have to go in and purchase them to add them.

It's possible that the thing is, you have to win 100 Exhibition Matches, not including Light's Out or Exploding Barbed Wire et cetera. The trophy is for having 100 exhibition matches, not winning that many.

I figure that's gotta be the only thing holding it up now. I checked the store and everything else. I finally got Mr. Brodie Lee unlocked so now just have to get the Big Paul from career mode. I also got my first official 5 star match in a tag match of all things. I had a 7 star match a while back but I think that was only because I eliminated every single wrestler as Penta in the battle royal match. Still have trouble getting 4 stars on singles matches. I'll have A+ in all categories on Elite difficulty and still get a B rating, it's weird. Thankfully it doesn't really matter

I think upping the difficulty causes the match grading to be harder as well. When I was trying to get Brodie & Paul Wright on RttE, I had it on Easy and I was getting 4.5* matches with no issue. My playthrough with the CAW was on normal and I was getting 3-3.5* with one 4.5* match. The star rating seems odd because they value winning quickly, not taking damage and doing a lot of moves. In comparison to the 2k games the star ratings are closer to what an actual highly rated match would be (longer, back and forth, kickouts etc).

But some of the skills in Fight Forever are super fun, having the unyielding pose skill and the guard breaker is a nasty combo for early on. And fast start is fun especially if your opponent has it too since every match starts like a car crash.

To help with tracking the win 100 exhibition matches thing, it’s tracked in one of the challenges thing. At least “win 50 matches against a COM opponent” is, not sure about 100 off the top of my head. At the very least you can know if you’re half way there or not 😂

Total exhibition matches are tracked in one of the challenges, but for Owen, you have to have 100 normal exhibition matches. The challenge counts all of them. That threw me off because I kept checking that and was over 100, but no Owen.

The Owen thing is definitely 100 ordinary  singles matches in exhibition. I was at >130 total exhibition matches when I unlocked him. So presumably I played over 30 tag, falls count anywhere etc etc matches, which seems right. He's VERY fun to play with!

In terms of match ratings, I am not sure about the relationship between difficulty and ratings (which seems like a reasonable possibility) but I have managed  5 and 7 star ratings on normal. I will try on other difficulties later.

Watched a video that suggested that fast squashes are good for **** matches, ***** or ******* matches need to be long and violent, with signature spamming and thumbtacks and destroyed video screens. Seems to be accurate.  I got my first  5-star and 7-star matches, doing lights out. Other people suggest sig-spamming the Casino Battle Royal, and that you can get ***** by sig/finish spamming a regular match. Time and health are NOT important when going for the highest scores. Back and forth seems to work better than squashing going for seven. To me, that was an interesting surprise.

Edit: apparently it also really helps to use one of the PPV arenas, and to make it a world championship match, though the latter is certainly not necessary.

Finally, if anyone is curious, it's not difficult to get an "A" rank in RTE playing on easy difficulty. You can absolutely build up strong CAWS without min/maxing. Just keep morale high, do intense workouts (with high energy so you don't get injured) and Rampage matches. Go for squashes to keep energy high and get **** ratings. My last run-through I got my CAW to 51/5/20 on easy without playing minigames. That's good enough! Though, I don't play online matches. Possibly you need to min max to build a CAW for ranked? My basic pattern is dining - workout - other match - go out - Dynamite, but it's helpful to be flexible. And always do any activity with a red exclamation mark.

Agree that Unyielding Poise and Guardbreaker is an awesome combo. Agree that playing as OC is almost too much fun. Yuka Sakazaki, as well! Particularly if you turn in-match music off so you can hear the wrestlers. Also, the skateboard rules. And breaking tables is bizarrely satisfying. And the jukebox feature kicks ass.

Love this game! Hope they treat it like the developers treat No Man's Sky and keep adding to it and giving us free stuff. Create some good will in the community, AEW! 😀

I finally unlocked Owen Hart a few days ago, now I just have The Big Paul to go. I had no idea you could smash the video screens and I've still yet to find thumbtacks. I love that I'm over 200 matches in and I'm still finding new moves/positions. Adding a few different stipulations like Ironman/submission/elimination to the basic match types is still the drum I'll keep on beating and hopefully we'll get something like that in dlc or a patch in the next year. I don't think I can ever go back to a 2K style wrestling game at this point

Loooool the post-move animation for the BACK RAKE~! is kinda fucked, so you can just chain a back rake into your next move.  Well, this week has a reward for hitting 100 weak grapples.  So…

Weak grapple

Left bumper = go behind

Back rake

Opponent sells, turns around, repeat from step 1

I hit 30 back rakes in a row before getting bored.

I just saw that there's a PC mod that ups everyone's starting HP, so matches last 15-20 minutes.  Different strokes and all, but that sounds fucking awful.

It could work if you also had a mod to slow the momentum meter until later in the match or else you're in a special/finisher loop. But I wouldn't want every match to be like that.

Exactly!  Increasing HP just means you hit your finisher in 3-5 minutes, don't get a win, then you build and hit finishers every two minutes until the match ends.  That is shit.  You need to mod momentum and damage as well.

But just in general, I'm older and more of a casual gamer nowadays.  I don't want 20 minute matches in my games.  2 minutes sucks too, though.  I probably need to get a little better and start playing hard mode.

So someone mentioned the Steam user counts for the AEW game starting to look grim so I went to check it out and... it's not great. As of this second it is at 76 people playing right now (includes both those playing online and single player) with the 24 hour peak being 96. It's been slowly bleeding players down to this point and it raises questions as to if the Stadium Stampede mode will even be functional as it requires 30 people playing the mode at the same time. It is possible, perhaps likely that the console user bases are a bit higher but as a comparison WWE 2k23 has 1,566 current players at this second. I hope they earned their money back from the month one sales but it is looking likely that the game just doesn't have legs.

They were talking about this on this week's Deadlock pod.  They were of the opinion, based on the lack of support and improvements for online, that the game is dead in the water.  One point they made was that Yuke's could go a long way to fix online by just disallowing CAWs, and it would be a simple patch, but it's not being done, and that's indicative of the developer and publisher either not knowing what they're doing or having little concern for the game.

I only played online one time, and I do still enjoy offline, but a lot of fixes need to be made.  It's concerning that a month after release we still have no roadmap and no dates for DLC or Stadium Stampede, especially when DLC dates were announced early and then backed off.  A ton of little things need to be fixed in offline.  RTE gets old after 4-5 playthroughs.  Having to beat RTE like 25 times to get all the minigames kinda sucks.  Having to play through RTE and do everything some mysterious "correct" way to unlock a character sucks.  Tag matches where you can't control your partner and can't give them directions went away 15 years ago.  Some player models are horrible (Jericho is fat, Starks looks like Butthead).  CAW is incredibly limited and is missing basic functionality that GAMECUBE WWE GAMES had.

I do like this game and I think the actual in-ring part is REALLY good.  But fuuuuuuck do they need to make a bunch of improvements, and quickly.
