Trocar Slush Weasel
It's good to know that DVDVR has so many MBAs that could step in if WWE ever decides they need a marketing department.

Spritenaut 32
I tend to think all these WWE marketing suggestions are flawed and won't work out as well as intended. Now, my idea is brilliant. Let me tell you about it in excruciating detail.....
Playa Shunna Ver 3.0
People are acting like the WWE never tries anything new to market it's superstars.....and I'm just sitting here in my Bella Twin socks, drinking coffee out of my Undertaker Urn coffee mug, scratching my back with my RyBack scratcher, snuggling with my HBK teddy bear saying you are wrong. Burgundy LaRue
And I get accused of reading too much into things. No one is saying that the ideas thrown out are full-proof. They could very well be flawed. If anything, we're shooting the breeze among ourselves, until the No Fun Bus came to DVDVR University, trying to spread the internet version of the clap. Luckily, Live Sex Celebration condoms provide up to 98% protection against STIs! And if they should fail, a F5 morning-after pill will finish off any potential of an unwanted pregnancy! Pretty sure the ZZ thing was a joke, too. (rides off on Kevin Nash's Big Diesel Wheels tricycle)

Robert Downey Jr gets paid an assload for Iron Man 2 and Terrance Howard thinks he should get paid more. They tell him to kick rocks and go get Don Cheadle. They put a value on Howard that didn't match his. Same with WWE and Ryback. For everybody that thinks the WWE should adjust their pay structure, I need some suggestions on figures. If Cena is 100%, what should other people be paid? Someone already addressed this, but actors have other options. Also, as several people have pointed out, a wrestler's value is entirely created by the WWE, who then uses that to negotiate lower contracts. 34 minutes ago, Trocar Slush Weasel said: Please, there's having an opinion and then there's saying your ideas for making a billion dollar company more millions is full-proof. I should have said that it's ok to have an opinion as long as you're ok with me having an opinion about your opinion. I've seen plenty of posts here (and other places, granted) that start out with "WWE is leaving so much money on the table". Then they list the idea(s) and at the end tack on something like "And if it doesn't work out, they can give all the excess t-shirts to some charity/poor kids in Africa". I actually agree that everybody should at least have a t-shirt, but let's not kid ourselves that they are missing out on revenue by Fandango or Curtis Axel not having any merchandise. Btw, what is the difference between a commemorative title belt and replica title belt, other than twice the price?

The whole point of the Ryback argument was "everyone should have the same base salary" , not merchandise bonuses, not PPV bonuses- just the base salary. Right there, the money dramatically falls from what they're actually making (even before the likely "pro-rated between the year if someone rises and falls, like your Zack Ryder example.) So, yes- right now John Cena makes about $9.5 million a year- but a lot of that also comes from merchandise, from PPV bonuses/TV bonuses, from outside the ring things. (At the last time salaries were released by WWE, they said Cena makes about $2.5 million as his base salary. Put that into play, and the level drops a lot. So you are suggesting John Cena takes a pay cut. The fact is, John Cena has a value to the WWE that exceeds merch bonuses, PPV bonuses, etc. Just because he will get way more than any other wrestler from those bonuses doesn't mean he isn't entitled to make a larger base salary than those other wrestlers simply because he is making more for the WWE than those other wrestlers. Maybe John Cena is the exception and everybody else is the rule.

In terms of marketing, how is the WWE not leaving lots of money on the table considering they only seem to market toys, tshirts, and dvds mainly? Just sounds like they aren't even tapping into all the possibilities. Maybe all the over merchandising in the 90's has lead to this core model.

The preference is to stick to what has worked in the past because it has always worked no matter how much the market changed. They stick with the basics despite all of their social metrics that may tell them otherwise. The inertia that keeps the needle in place is enormous. You see this a lot in family businesses. They get stuck in a rut and continue in that rut. You would think they might experiment with new merchandise in NXT because, after all, this is their lab and farm system. Take a step back and you see the inertia that grinds the WWE to a halt which is something we complain a lot about here.
zev
I'm sure ZZ's made at least 900 grand in a year before. I mean, that Eliminator album sold a lot of copies back in 1983. Ok, seriously, does anyone know if there is such a thing as a minimum salary in the WWE? I don't mean a developmental deal with a few matches on NXT, I mean if you're being called up to the RAW or Smackdown roster, what's the baseline you should be expecting?

Sammo~!
They never really explained why he wasn't on TV in character. One night he's the baby face in a tag team with Roman, then he's just not on TV for 3 weeks, no mention of injury. Rowan and Strowman nowhere to be seen. It's funny, Wyatt's stock has fallen so much that I forgot he was injured. Maybe some more time off would benefit them, get some vignettes going and hold off the return until Summerslam so that he actually has some hype behind the return and let fans grow to miss him between now and then.
