TK, bud. If you’re trying to reignite the fan base and improve attendance, booking shows where the heels come out on top in every segment is not gonna get it done.

Fuck.

it's not "Stop the Moxunaga"

It's "Mox World Order"

Gonna start every show with a recap of what the MWO did last week.

Gonna end every show with the MWO running in and standing tall.

The BCC group attacks thus far have been pretty tight tho. And I've loved every word out of Jon Moxley's mouth. Sure, you could say more mWo then 'Moxunaga', but this group does feel more Japanese inspired than Big Sexy. I thought the opening video was good. Not quite a Lee Fitting production, but good. The AEW Dark Squadron standing tall like a bunch of nerds in the parking lot was dumb and endearing. Did you like the Orange Cassidy/Chuck Taylor huddle? There was something real about Chuck with that company polo and headset. I thought the ambush to close out the show was a trip! Admittedly I was with split attention during the entire show this evening, so I'll take a second run around to be sure.

also, I've barely watched Rampage for years so I've missed a lot of Daddy Magic commentary but he stuck out like a thumb on commentary.. like at first it sounded like his mic was cutting out. I guess if you listened to enough of him on commentary, it'd begin to gel but it just sounded like he was in another place, either physically or mentally, from the other two commentators

I look at it as MJF being the ultimate scumbag. Adam Cole and the UE were proven to be right about MJF. They might be scumbags, but not on MJF's level.

Off the top of my head, I think 2024 AEW is the worst year of AEW's five.

It seems like there's a considerable amount more content this year, but the highlights have me believing that this is the best of the five. That said, I don't remember in years very well.

Looking forward to seeing the Benjamin v Sammy bout without the horrible PiP bullshit. I happily watch on delay every week, going live is a real eye opener - seeing all the awful PIP, sitting thru commercial breaks and all the entrances, etc. I think I'll stick to my regular routine going forward.

Mark Briscoe was bumping like Junior Foley tonight. The cannonball onto the ladder was incredibly brutal and completely undersold. I sense a TV timing issue there. That goddamn elbow and the chokeslam bump were completely outrageous. I need to rewatch this.

I was nervous for Renee when she was interviewing Mariah with that mad look in her eye. I thought they nailed what was a fun backstage segment there. Aminata v Kamille looked pretty strong from half view. I'm trying to not get impatient on Aminata's ascent up the card. I don't like her in an enhancement role, but the matches are all valuable. I sense the right ppl know she's money. I liked how Kamille and Stat matched up. The audience, myself included, feels very cold to dishonorable babyface Kris Statlander. Mercedes is a great heel.

Kyle Fletcher's promo was the highlight of the show. We've known he's had the moves for a while, but his match output this year combined showing the range to cut a top tier heel and face promo (his American dream promo against MJF) as well? Far and away the most improved in AEW this year and a no-doubt future main eventer.

They're doing a nice job building up Shelton for Swerve.

The MJF/Kingdom angle makes zero sense, but it re-casts the Kingdom (with AAAADAM) as goofy faces and MJF as the weasel-y heel, and I'm ok with that. That devil angle was trash, and sometimes it's better to just memory hole stuff and put guys in a better role.

I guess Private Party is getting their big moment next week? It would be silly to break them up when they're at the center of defending the honor of AEW.

Kamille/Aminata was pretty bad. It'll be interesting to see what Stat can get out of Kamille, but Stat/Mercedes should be a money match.

The BCC stuff this week was very 97 NWO. At least it looks like they're not gonna waste too much more time, but OC, Darby, and whoever really need to start pushing back. Also extremely weird that there was no Pac. Did the BCC send him off to get fitted for pants?

Hopefully they run Anarchy in the Arena at Full Gear.

The Fletcher promo was several minutes too long, but wow he’s come a long way.

The way he controlled the crowd and remained within his character was unrecognizable from even a year ago.

Definitely feels like an upgrade from a “moves” guy to a potential 2025 pick to break through.

Elsewhere you couldn’t have asked for a better first two weeks for Shelton Benjamin. He looks like a BIG DEAL.

You'd like to think Mark Davis will come back for him and Kyle Fletcher's Aussie Open. Davis has been out over a year with a broken wrist in Aussie Open vs. FTR at AEW WrestleDream 2023.

Great Dynamite, great use of Chuck Taylor, great angle to end the show.  The MoXpool Combat Club angle is firing on all cylinders IMO.  Loved the promo to open the show and the show long angle waiting for them to show up.  What's old is new again!

I'd never seen Kamille really work before.  A little sloppy but I was very pleasantly surprised after expecting her to be a total stiff.  Did her and Aminata work together on the indies?  Some of the stuff they tried was ambitious and seemed like they'd worked before or at least practiced the match

Thought KF was pretty good in his segment, liked his rationale and gave enough credit to Callis for allowing him to see things for how they really are.  All it was missing was a "I'M KYLE BYGAWD FLETCHER" rather than just "I'M KYLE FLETCHER" to really hammer that he's now replaced both Omega and Ospreay as the apple of Callis' eye

Thought it was obvious Archer is turning on Cage sooner than later but I might be seeing something that isn't there

I actually liked the progression with Cole and UK this week.  Roddy doesn't have the rep but I love him as a character and on the stick.

Hangman was limping before he even got involved in anything physical, looked like a hammy.  Good angle.  I think for some people this might be the first time they'll actually be able to remember which one is Colten and which one is Austin

Looking forward to next week's show.  They're doing a good job booking stuff a week, 2, 3 weeks out now, keep it up!

I'm not a fan.  It was fine when he was just doing commentary on Garcia's matches but I don't feel he adds much

I like when they've done rotating guest commentators over the course of the the show in the past.  Just do X and Tony and rotate people in for different matches

Sorry for the triple post.  I liked that they showed clips of Takeshita in Maple Leaf Wrestling defending the International title against that goofy looking TNA guy with the headgear

This TNA/NXT/Maple Leaf/AEW stuff is strange to say the least.  I'm kind of surprised that match was even allowed to happen

Shelton-Sammy was all right.

Fletcher's promo was all right!

Cage-Archer squash was all right, who were their opponents? I never heard them intro'ed and couldn't hear the commentators discuss them much. Was it the guys who were a part of Swerve's army that got the big heel turn on Swerve, followed by getting crushed by a solo Swerve? If it was them, are they done with AEW? Because I'd say that looked like "You've got one more match on your contract" kind of match.

Kamille-Aminata looked somewhat like a high school drama class fight scene.

I read ahead to see what else was on the show and tapped out in advance.

I thought this was an okay episode of Dynamite. The wrestling wasn't bad so I can't complain about that. I can complain about Jericho winning the damn ROH World title again though. I knew it would come down to something screwy and it did. Big Bill should be ROH Champion before Jericho. That chokeslam off the ladder through the tables was insane. Where the hell was Kyle O'Reilly in all of that mess?

Speaking of Kyle's, Kyle Fletcher did a hell of a promo despite the crowd trying to shut him down. I personally found that annoying. He was cutting a good heel promo and the crowd starts chanting WRAP IT UP. I'm looking forward to the Fletcher/Osprey matches. Shaving your head to make a point was a choice though.

The main event was all right. It was so telegraphed that after the match, the BCC were coming through the crowd and not the angry mob waiting for them outside. Orange Cassidy snapping and wanting Moxley's head should make for an entertaining promo. Don't know about a match though because odds are it will be like the first Mox/Orange match where Jon beat him to a bloody pulp since this new Mox is all killer now. Okay, he's the same Mox.

If you watched an AEW show, and your main takeaway from it was "The best match on the show was Chris Jericho's match", that probably means it was a rough night.

Interesting dynamic tonight; Yuta refused to attack Chuck. Is this because of his past with The Best Friends (Chuck was nice to him as opposed to Trent) or more because they still haven't fully turned him yet? Also, where was Pac?

This Shelton Benjamin rehab is my favorite thing in all of Pro Wrestling right now. Here's hoping they can find a way to keep him fresh while putting Swerve over. This is a textbook example of what a charismatic mouthpiece can bring to a focused technician lacking some of the entertainment elements like Shelton. Further, I loved seeing Ricochet cut his standard fair promo and get an MVP card. I really hope Ric takes this great opportunity.

Man I wish AEW did house shows because I’d love to see the before and after Hook wrestles a loop with Christian. Exactly what he needs at this stage.

Christian Cage is someone to learn from.

With how Quen showed his displeasure at the stipulation, plus with how Zay was the one most obviously targeted by Mox (hammer to the hand), i could see private party losing and then Zay absolutely destroying Quen to set him for something solo (or maybe joining Mox - "you were right John, I needed to be broken to come back stronger").

Was Christian calling Hook, "Tyler" after the Kill switch?

Why did Ishii come out and pose only after Big Bill destroyed Briscoe and stole his title? Rocky had already run interference against Bad Apple. So stupid!

Caught Yuta initially putting the chair on Chuck's ankle which to me was diabolical as Excalibur was talking up the career ending ankle surgery. But then Claudio angrily takes the chair and goes around the neck instead and Yuta then shows remorse/concern. Hurricane Helms voice - "Whassupwidthat?"

Man oh man, this show was not great, from a lot of perspectives.  Please indulge my bullet point notes.

  • BCC vignette at the start of the show had horrible sound quality
  • WTF was the Hangman/Bang Bros angle?  Hangman comes out to promo, gets backjumped by a babyface, beats that babyface up in a fair fight, then babyface's friends run in to outnumber the heel and run him off.  wuuuut
  • OH MAN THIS FUCKING MVP PROMO.  Motherfucker quotes Heath Ledger's Joker like a fucking edgelord, never mind that movie is old enough to have a driver's license.  Way to stay young and relevant, AEW.  Then he says "our agenda?  We're taking over."  And I resist the urge to shoot the TV like Elvis.  Fuuuuuuuuck heel stables saying they're taking over, and double fuck two promos from two different heel stables talking about taking over 20 minutes apart.  Tony is on crack.
  • Shelton calls back to Shawn's anti-air superkick and I need to remind you that happened 19 years ago.  Fucking Sammy was in grade school.
  • Look.  If you have one or two old guys on the roster, congrats, you have some legends.  If you have 10 old guys on your roster, you just have an old roster full of cynical old carnies bilking a perceived money mark and waiting for the Fed to call them back to New York.
  • Meltzer compared putting Shelton over Sammy to Bischoff putting Val Venis over Christopher Daniels in TNA.  This isn't that.  But it's close.
  • This old guy shit is not what I wanted AEW to be.  If I come off as a mark for that, so be it.
  • In a shoutout to all the dumb fucks who only see race as a gimmick, MVP recruits Ricochet.  Because all the black dudes need to be in the same stable.  Fuck all this.
  • Fletcher sporting the Shawn Michaels initial heel turn white denim jacket.  Shit's gonna go down.
  • OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER as Fletcher shaves his head.  10 years of yee yee ass haircuts, as helpfully evidenced by that montage before the promo, all gone.  Thank god.  My guy was physically incapable of getting a good haircut, might as well own it.
  • GOOD: actually promoting upcoming shows and matches!  Holy shit!
  • BAD: Promoting Stat/Camille before Camille/Aminata, flushing all doubt as to the finish of that one
  • GOOD: Showing Maple Leaf Pro footage!
  • I can't stop imagining that masseuse just CONSTANTLY accidentally popping MJF's bacne and just rubbing it in like Aspercreme.
  • LOL @ Cage & Archer vs Great Value Viking Radiers.  Dudes looked like barbarian archetypes from Mat Mania or some other 80s unlicensed wrestling game.
  • Hell yeah Chuckie T is on my TV
  • Regular ring aprons and barricades look so much better than that LED monstrosity.
  • Where do wrestling companies get ladders with climbing rungs on both sides?  Do they buy two ladders and make them themselves?
  • Speaking of ladders, Aubrey was talking to Jericho while Briscoe was climbing to the tippy top of that high-ass ladder and I was screaming AUBREY GO GET A FUCKING HAND ON THAT LADDER!  Jesus Christ.
  • Ishii out for the save got crickets, because Ishii was a jobber last time we saw him.  Moving from Jericho beating the way over Mark Briscoe to set up a match with the nobody gives a shit Ishii is very dumb.  One of wrestling's 10 commandments is that the surprise guy making the save has to be at least as over, if not more so, than the person he's saving.
  • LOL @ Daddy Magic openly laughing at HoB's jobbers.
  • Buddy Matthews: designated HoB singles match jobber challenges Cole out of nowhere because they need someone to do the job.
  • Last week, Private Party intimated they'd break up if they lost another title match.  Now the match is set for next week.  Really speedrunning this angle, huh?
  • LOL @ apparently no women care about the BCC takeover.
  • As mentioned, BCC is feuding with the dumbest babyfaces alive, and apparently just came in through a different door, real Bugs Bunny shit.  Next week, they will argue with the babyface brigade whether it's duck season or rabbit season.

I want to give this BCC angle room to breathe and I understand they need to feud with the cannon fodder for a little while, but I don't know, man.  If they're an existential threat to the company, vague as that threat is, then why aren't more people, and higher up people, also wanting to stop them?  They really can't go too long with all this shit existing in separate bubbles.

It is interesting that not counting trios teams there are, at minimum, six heel stables running at once: BCC, Hurt Syndicate, Callis Family, Patriarchy, Elite, Learning Tree

There are….two? Babyface stables? Conglomeration, I guess Dark Order, and I guess even if you stretch that to trios you can add PP+Garcia and Bang Bang Gang?

It’s extremely lopsided, and literally every single one of those six heel stables has the upper hand in their current feuds. There are 8 segments per show.

Something has to give at some point. I’ve called for the Syndicate babyface turn but they aren’t even fully formed yet and that’s like a half year away from now.

Wouldn't it be funny if, next week when Kyle Fletcher shows up for his match, rather than finish off shaving his head, he just left it in the half shaved/ half douchebag look that he had at the end of his promo?

So Roddy Strong and Adam Cole both want MJF, but only the first person to get to three wins can get the shot. So I'm thinking that they both get to 2 wins, and then MJF says that the next match is Roddy Strong VS Adam Cole, and they can have one of those NXT Black n Gold "Remorseful violence" matches.

Last night, I was trying to think of who are the top baby faces who could align against the BCC, so it’s not just the job squad standing in the parking lot with their dicks in their hands, and I legitimately could not think of anyone.  I know Darby and OC are on tap, but that’s it.  Fantasy booking, I want to see Hangman find his way and just go whoop some ass.
