The Many Saints of Newark got blasted by one of the guys on Roger Ebert's site; he gave it a star and a half. It's at 71% on Rotten Tomatoes so that's a little bit better.

Of course I'm going with my dad to watch it no matter what

Haven’t read the review but they’re way way way off.

RED ROCKET

Starring Simon Rex, Bree Elrod and Suzanna Son

Directed by Sean Baker (Tangerine, The Florida Project)

---

A24.  Sean Baker.  Bye Bye Bye.

It's going to be amazing being able to say "Academy Award Nominee Simon Rex" this time next year.

WHAT THE FUUUUCK!!! YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!

Rocky 4 - Recut and with new scenes

Read somewhere that it's 40 (!) minutes longer than the original.  Works for me!  Also a Stallone Q&A or something like that.

Jesus, the last time I heard the name "Simon Rex" he was transitioning from gay for pay porn to Music Television VJ and now Sean Baker has made his Florida Project lightning strike twice and dragged a performance for the ages out of Simon Rex..... who probably had that performance in him the entire time.

Rex had better make the Best Actor nom list.

It's funny - Variety has an article from last month about if Rex will get nominated

https://variety.com/2021/awards/awards/red-rocket-simon-rex-telluride-oscars-1235051584/

And while they think he should - it is an uphill battle because

A) Subject matter of the movie ("If audiences and award voters can get past the more risqué elements...)

B) Oscar voters tend to dislike make nudity

B1) Oscar voters tend to dislike former adult film stars

C) There are no Golden Globes this year. It would have been a lock he would have gotten nominated for a Golden Globe and that would have given him the attention for the Oscars.

The article above seems to imply it might be more likely that Sean Baker would get nominated

Well just because he showed his dick before doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna show it again.

...but yeah they'll probably show it again.

It looks like Dinklage might be a better option for Oscar winner.

I hope they add 3-4 more montages!  😄

I love this movie but watching it after listening to the Rewatchables episode about it just ruins the film because the podcast really called attention to the overuse of montages in the movie and then you can't unsee it.  Holy shit, I just Googled "how many montages" and Google automatically filled in "in Rocky 4"  LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.  I just saw this on IMDB:

Quote

It has been calculated that Rocky IV is 31.9% montages, nearly a third of the film. During the second half of the film, or the last 50 minutes, it is approximately 50% montage.

Honestly, there's a spot in the film where they do a montage, about a minute of actual stuff, then another montage.

It's the only movie I think I have ever seen where there's a montage followed by another montage.

And then the actual boxing match is fucking hilarious because they both just block shots with their face like under CCCP rules you're not allowed to block punches or something.

I love this movie.

You bringing up montages reminded me off:

LOL That's every Rocky movie!  More unprotected shots to the head in one fight than in the entire run of the original ECW.

I just hope, somewhere in those additional 40 minutes, they put the decades-old debate to bed by once and for all answering the burning question, "is it east versus west or man against man?"

I wish I could remember where it was, but on some podcast the host told a surreal story from his childhood about going to a friend’s house for a sleepover and finding out the friend's dad was the Gorbachev impersonator from Rocky 4 and Naked Gun.

NO NO NO NO NO

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

EDIT: If I had a list of movies I wish Hollywood would stop trying to remake, Willy Wonka would be near the top of that list. Fucking stop.
