I hear more people reference Hotel California than any of The Beatles hits.

That was more in reference to how @AxB placed Michael in that statement and less about The Eagles.

The Beatles' cultural relevance to me is in DJ Dangermouse's The Grey Album, and that's about it.

I'd guess that they have that sort of relevance to a specific demographic, but it isn't mine. No offense to Beatles fans.

@AxB: Nah, Michael Jackson was a bigger worldwide star. Funny enough, the Beatles being so big in the U.S. is a big part of their outside-of-the-UK cachet. On the other hand, you can go online and see concerts in South America, Africa, etc., that were these huge venues that MJ sold out.

America =/= equal America.

Are you trying to tell me that The Beatles were bigger in South America, Africa and Asia than Michael Jackson?

12 billion Indians saw a Jinder Mahal YouTube clip. Does that make him a bigger star than Austin?!?

Doesn't matter. Nobody's changing anyone else's mind. Circular argument goes on forever. Agree to disagree. Wrestling discussion ~!

One day, my hope is for combat sports leagues (including WWE) stop pandering to China, India, and Russia.

I can see Russia, because we've actually got quality fighters from there, but I honestly don't see the point in setting up any other Chinese dudes up for early onset CTE any more.  Who is the best Indian wrestler of all-time?  Sonjay Dutt?  Can you even name an Indian MMA fighter?  I can't.  Is there a single good chinese wrestler?  Is Xi Li, who has potential to be good, the best one?

Paul McCartney vs. Michael Jackson in a shoot circa 1995 who wins?

Paul McCartney straight up. I don’t believe  MJ has ever thrown a punch. If this was a work, then I’m going with MJ all the way. All he’d need is a shooting star, and McCartney is dead.

@Elsalvajeloco already mentioned that Michael Jackson is from Gary, Indiana.  I guarantee you, he's thrown a punch.  You act like Joe Jackson wasn't his daddy.  Mike would lay Paul's ass down so damn fast.  Have you guys never heard the stories about Michael Jackson's real voice when he had to put someone in their place?  Mike gangsta'd Paul for his entire catalog, if Paul wanted those problems he could have got them...but he didn't.

Why wouldn't any business want to have footing in 2 of the burgeoning economies in the world, India and China? The world is alot bigger than 'Murica, my friend.

McCartney spent his life having sex with adult women, whilst Jackson only fucked small boys, so I'm giving Paul the grappling advantage.

The world is bigger than America, but the world has shown time and time again that they will buy "culture" from America.  So, lining a bunch of Chinese dudes up to get their asses kicked or putting large, but untalented Indian people in a wrestling ring isn't actually doing anything.  You could just create a quality product and sell it to them, instead of trying to pander to them by watering down a product with people who don't have the aptitude to compete at that level.  China has a thousand year head start on martial arts, and they still have proven to be way behind in competition.  What are they going to do in the next year or two to close that gap.

There is no bigger argument against stereotypes than MMA.  If you would have asked anyone before about 1992, what continent produces the best martial artists, we all would have said Asia.  That myth was crushed pretty quickly.  Nobody would have said, "South America," but they probably have the crown.

Damn man...

Can we at least agree that "The Girl is Mine," is the worst song either one of The Beatles or Michael Jackson ever produced?

People like Ike Turner, James Brown, Chuck Berry, etc. changed the world, The Beatles got famous for it.

We all know Chuck Berry was only successful because his cousin Marvin saw a young Marty McFly play Johnny Be Good.

It's a battle between Kultar Gill and Arjan Bhullar (both were born in Canada).

As far as China goes, Weili Zhang has a ton of potential but beating Jessica Andrade is quite a leap. Song Yadong has looked pretty good, but it's been against limited opposition. Alejandro Perez was a good win though.

I bring up Russia because the best fighters in MMA are from Dagestan usually. Most of those dudes aren't ethnically Russian. The UFC isn't doing a stadium show in Makhachkala anytime soon. It would be different if the talent was spread out, but we saw how well it worked for M-1 when they tried to push people besides Fedor.

Out of the biggest name boxers from Russia, Alexander Povetkin is probably the biggest star in that area. Sergey Kovalev was just a dude when he came over here to the states fighting in shitty casinos in California. Artur Beterbiev is Chechen, born in Dagestan, and based in Montreal. Dmitry Bivol and Gennady Golovkin both have Korean mothers. Bivol couldn't put a couple thousand people in a casino ballroom in Atlantic City earlier this year and never been a draw in Russia. All these guys are top flight boxers.

That's what EVERYONE goes in thinking as it relates to combat sports. If the idea is to create a Yao Ming, it hasn't worked yet in the several years they've been trying.

I don't think it's bad to set up schools and/or look for talent in these places.  I just think it's a waste of time and money to try to pander to a group of people who don't seem to have any interest in punching each other in the face for money.  The UFC spends a lot of time and money putting on shows in China...and the best one is about to have her head caved in by Jessica Andrade.  It seems like a lot of effort to have your best hope beaten to a pulp in front of her entire country.
