Dolfan in NYC
Your Semifinals! Saturday December 31st The Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl brought to you by Chik-Fil-A #1 #4 The Playstation Fiesta Bowl #3 #2 Penn State is 5, Michigan is 6.
Brian Fowler
It's absolutely meaningless, but I don't understand what Clemson did last night that suddenly makes their resume better than Ohio's. (And also meaningless is PSU jumping Michigan despite a 39 point loss at Ann Arbor.)
EVA
Bama is significantly more talented than Washington, BUT Chris Petersen made his name by beating more talented teams in games where he had a long layoff to devise a gameplan. They're a real threat.

They're a real threat. If Washington's O-Line can protect their QB at all, they're a legitimate threat to Bama. You can beat this Bama defense by throwing over the top of them. THe problem with this season was that the SEC was about the quality of the ACC during all of those years that FSU was the de facto conference champion for most of the aughts. Brian Fowler
Someone over at the Ringer was arguing a week or so back that Washington was the team best built to shock Bama. I have my doubts, but hey, it could happen.
Burgundy LaRue
Washington has one of the smallest OLs among the top teams this year. Alabama's DL may very well ragdoll them. If UW can spread the field enough to give their QB time to throw, they have a chance. But they'll need their running to go all out, too. You need to do everything well and have them make a couple of mistakes. It's a truly an all-or-nothing situation. Not sure if that happens with Bama. I can see it being close for a while before Saban drops the hammer.
EVA
Well, they're not gonna run on Alabama. That's a non-starter. If you want to score points on Alabama, you have to do what Ole Miss and Arkansas did (and Florida tried to do): completely abandon the run and say, "We're going to throw the ball 50 times today." Runs are basically wasted plays against this defense. And while passing 50 times opens you up to getting hammered by that ferocious pass rush and gives that ball-hawking secondary a lot of opportunities to score 6 on you (as those teams all found out), at least you have the chance of SOMETHING good happening. Very little good happens when you run on Alabama. In 405 opponent rushes this year, only 33 have gone for more than 10 yards. That's like...8%? Statistically, you have a (slightly) better chance of completing a 20 yard pass against them (40 out of 412 attempts).
Brian Fowler
Top ten vs top ten records Alabama: 1-0 Clemson: 0-0 Ohio State: 3-1 Washington: 1-1 Penn State: 2-1 Michigan: 3-1 Oklahoma: 1-1 Wisconsin: 0-3* USC: 2-1 Colorado: 0-3 *Take a second to feel pity for Wisconsin. Three loses, to #3, #5 and #6, by 7 points each. Even though the other half of their brutal six games against teams ranked the top ten at kickoff schedule flopped, that is one hell of a tough path to 10-3. Ryan
Imagine Wisconsin vs Bama, we basically can't pass most of the time, all we can do is run and hope our defense does a thing. We'd be absolutely killed.
sabremike
I'm just waiting to see what bowl Army plays in, ON BRAVE OLD ARMY TEAM!!! Also I'm hoping the Pinstripe Bowl gets a crappy matchup like Indiana vs Duke so the prices on StubHub collapse.
Ryan
They already decided everything. Dec. 27 Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl: Army vs. North Texas(12 p.m., ESPN, Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas) Dec. 28 New Era Pinstripe Bowl: No. 23 Pittsburgh vs. Northwestern(2 p.m., ESPN, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York) Note quite Duke vs Indiana, but close enough. Niners Fan in CT
No way I can spin this. That's a terrible schedule of bowl games. But I am interested in FSU/Michigan and USC/Penn State. Also, I want to see what Western Michigan can do with Wisconsin if anything..

As are Hawaii, in the Hawaii Bowl. As amazing as it must be to live on the islands, it must get pretty damn dull constantly playing bowl games in your own stadium. Where's the fun in that? cubbymark
I suppose it's better than the year Hawaii got slaughtered by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in what was essentially a home game for Georgia.
