climb in
climb in
climb inside me. pain
another night of drinkin'
another night of beeing
out of my head and i don't know
where i was last night
drinkin' on a empty stomach
or an empty mind
it makes no difference when i'm way out of line
things i can't remember comes back to haunt me
a lot of people out there who seem to want me
climb in the bottle and never come out
i may know nothing but i'm good at something
i will drink till the sun comes up
no more one of these days gonna come out of my haze
better hurry up it's getting harder to come back

Note: It's entirely coincidental that this song popped into my head on 9/11 of all days. This is a day of mourning so no need to bring politics in here, but it's stuck in my head, and I don't know why. And of course, Youtube won't even allow me to listen to it.

I give you the pressingly dark and melodic "Generals" by GBH, the highest these mindless spikeheads ever leapt.

Lyrics:

Spoiler
This means war...

We'll lead you into victory, you hear the generals say.
Never look behind you, we're with you all the way.
Go to bed early, conserve your energy,
tomorrow we'll be fighting with our enemy.

Polish your boots, clean your gun,
killing those bastards will be a lot of fun.
Take no prisoners, kill them all.
Start to march when you hear the call.

Britain needs you, Britain needs you ..
Britain needs you to die for her.

Marching into victory, marching in the mud.
Fighting for freedom, fighting in th eblood.
There's dead bodies all around, you're told to carry on.
Death is not right, war cannot be won.

March along you see a flash,
fall to the ground and make a splash.
You awake you're lying in the bed,
eyes are shut you think you're dead.
Lost your arm, you've lost your leg,
lost you're job, you'll have to beg.
You'll get loads of sympathy, a picture in the Evening Post.
But where were the generals when you needed them most ?

Spoiler
I had wrists donning slits
Flowing constantly
My broken body in a wreck
Wrapped around a tree
A crosswalk hit and run
The finish line for me
People clutter in the gutter
Take a look and see

No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging on to life
By the skin o' my teeth
No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging on to life
By the skin o' my teeth

My blood flows through the streets
Deluge from the wounds
Empty jars of sleeping pills
On the dresser in my room
My wet-brain neighbor cranes
His neck to see
In time, the white lights, a train
Bearing down on me

No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging on to life
By the skin o' my teeth
No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging onto life
By the skin o' my teeth

I won't feel the hurt
I'm not trash any longer
That that doesn't kill me
Only makes me stronger
I need a ride to the morgue
That's what 911 is for
So tag my toe and don't forget
Ooh, to close the drawer

No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging on to life
By the skin o' my teeth
No escaping pain
You belong to me
Clinging on to life
By the skin o' my teeth

Just won't leave my head. The lyrics too... lets just say they mean a lot to me right now.

This might be interesting to anyone that's been in the metal thread, but I am actually a high voter on Megadeth, though you totally wouldn't think it. Countdown to Extinction, which this is from, was an early purchase on a vacation to Florida in my youth (I had a chance to get Reign In Blood instead. Clearly I am a master of making mistakes in life) so I started with an interest in their stuff that wasn't even really thrash-y. I got Peace Sells and ended up selling it out of youthful elitism, but ended up really loving Rust In Peace when I finally heard it, and came back around on Peace Sells waaaaay later, along with always loving their first record. It's almost like jazz-metal (the bass player WAS a jazz guy). Never got into So Far So Good... So What! but always loved that song on The Decline Part 2. And that's all I've heard. Mustaine might be a controversial figure and I may disagree with him turning into a born-again Christian but you gotta give the man credit for being a totally unique individual in songcraft and vocals. Maybe that's why I've always appreciated him -- he's bizarre, uncompromising, and does not give two fucks what you think about him.

EDIT: I'm listening to So Far again and it's pretty solid!

There was another mistake in Florida on vacation, btw. I went through an entire wall of cassette tapes because my folks told me they'd buy me some. I picked out Autopsy - Severed Survival, Cancer - To the Gory End, and Napalm Death - Fear, Emptiness, Despair. When they took one look at the tapes to see what I wanted they told me with clear distaste that I could only pick one, and I decided to get NONE of them, kinda out of protest. They had also given me serious grief for the first Deicide album prior (as in they totally flipped out after reading the lyrics and took the thing back to the store for the money I spent) and that spooked me from buying anything with gross or Satanic lyrics for awhile, so basically I pussed out, so to speak. I later even returned a Broken Hope CD with some of the most disgusting lyrics I've ever read out of fear I'd get busted again. Man, if I had got Severed Survival I would have flipped out. (I've never liked Cancer -- to me they're the definition of second-rate death metal that somehow gets a pass from everyone else -- and I've never even listened to the ND record. Guess it's time to fix that.)

Oh, and I later bought through mail order -- guess what -- Severed Survival on tape anyway, along with... Repulsion - Horrified. Man, you wanna talk about a pair of fucking albums to get at the same time...

I’ve been watching the video for “Frontier Psychiatrist” too much

I had heard the song before but I was surprised that it wasn’t from the 80s

Great video, great song, great album. My roommate in college burned a copy of it for me and I wore that thing out.

When it comes to this gem from Metallica no context is needed whatsoever.

Halls of justice painted green
Money talking
Power wolves beset your door
Hear them stalking
Soon you’ll please their appetite
They devour
Hammer of justice crushes you
Overpower

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can’t believe the things you say
I can’t believe
I can’t believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Apathy their stepping stone
So unfeeling
Hidden deep animosity
So deceiving
Through your eyes their light burns
Hoping to find
Inquisition sinking you
With prying minds

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can’t believe the things you say
I can’t believe
I can’t believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Lady Justice has been raped
Truth assassin
Rolls of red tape seal your lips
Now you’re done in
Their money tips her scales again
Make your deal
Just what is truth? I cannot tell
Cannot feel

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can’t believe the things you say
I can’t believe
I can’t believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real
