NFL 2023 - WEEK FOUR

Dolfan in NYC

To get you ready for the AEW PPV tonight, the Chargers may have invented a new triple team move

At this point you might as well watch the pre-show because this might be one of the worst collection of late games in a long ass time

And Jerry Tillery gets ejected for the world's latest hit on Justin Herbert

EDIT

This was late, but Herbert is the king of running like he's going out of bounds only to cut back for another yard or two.  That close to the first down line, he either has to hit him or risk him extending the drive.

I agree with the Khalil Mack grudge theory, because he hasn't been good this season, but he's been a monster today.

Every year the media gets a little too excited about a team in the first few weeks, that team loses (usually badly), and they move on to someone else. Rinse and repeat, I know websites need clicky headlines so I'm not blaming them but the "Miami is going to the superbowl" talk was too much. Miami is a damn good team but they'd beaten three teams with losing records. The Bronco's game was eye popping but a freak occurrence.

In no way am I minimalizing their skill, they are stupid good on offense. But their defense is kinda suspect and there is a fine line between good-cute and too-cute with offensive playcalling, which we saw both of today. I'm still mad about the dumb Bills loss to the Jets week 1 which there was no excuse for, but if this version of Josh Allen shows up at least once every three games, I think they are still the team to beat in the AFC East.

I let it slide because it was 70 when they weren’t even trying. As for the Dolphins going forward, I agree they’re good but there’s also 1 other thing that needs to not happen again and it’s a touchy subject. Their coach needs to not get all Urban Meyer anxiety attack as soon as things heat up like he did last year.

Mac Jones benched! I was a fan of his and still am I guess. I don’t just not like people because they suck. We all suck at something, and it’s often job related lol!

But I think it’s clear that he ain’t it. He’s not really been hurried and he’s still throwing interceptions, without many attempts because they’ve done every single thing possible to not pass. 3 TEs. Who tf does that? Somebody who knows their quarterback sucks tbh.

sure is fun watching the studio heads on the pregame show have to pretend to get hype about all these Aaron Rodgers-less Jets prime time games they're stuck airing this season.

Either Dalvin Cook is done, or he should have signed earlier and had more of a training camp.

I am done watching this game as soon as it hits the over. Thank goodness there's no alcohol in the house.

I think by the tiebreakers (margin of victory) the Texans are no. 1 in the AFC South

Texans just put up 451 yards and 30 points on the vaunted Steelers defense.

Also CJ Stroud still hasn’t thrown an interception.

I’m all in and the pants are off

"For you, the game where you outplayed Mahomes was the most important game of your life. But for me, it was Sunday Night"

The Chiefs have had 3 meh offensive games and 3 wins. I believe that's called grit if it's not done by the defending champs.

Also, I'd be a terrible head coach because I'd want to score the TD to make it 30-20 if the other coach got a flag thrown on him while we were taking knees.

Mahomes gotta be a dick.

Between him and Lamar Jackson today, you just have to shake your head and ask, "what the fuck are you supposed to do?"  You can do everything right, they can do something that would be stupid as hell if they were anyone else, and somehow they still get to win.

The Jets got robbed. That was timed about as well as the calls on the final drives of the last 2 SBs. Also they missed 1 of the worst holds ever on 1 of those 3rds and a mile.

The Chiefs are to good for their own good…or something. They win these games that they don’t deserve to win, and they’ll lose 1 eventually, maybe even a few but that’s no big deal since all you have to do is win 7 games to make the playoffs. Then they’ll be playoff ready because they won’t let what happened to them in their last 2 playoff losses happen again ever IMO.

I read tweets about how gambling outlets were having problems inspiring anybody to put their money on the Jets.

Just thought of that after a game where the Jets scored 20 points including 12 points directly off of dodgy calls (a safety on a facemask that didn't start in the end zone, the field goal on the drive after the safety, and a TD on a drive where the refs ignored a facemask to call a nonexistent horse collar)

So if you’re one of the gambling partners of the NFL, the result is probably helpful enough. The 96% of people putting their money on the Chiefs lost their money without the Chiefs losing and people think the Chiefs stole it instead of it being a primetime game point shave. So maybe some of them will bet their money on the other side next time around.

Plus they have a few more primetime Jets games and people gotta believe that the Jets can compete or else they won’t watch.

Anyways, aren’t NFL officials still parttimers with weekday jobs and LinkedIn pages?

There's also going to be so many conspiracy theories (baseless ones) about the Mahomes slide. By sliding and running out the clock instead of scoring, the sportsbooks made something like tens of millions of dollars as the Point Spread bets were heavy on the Chiefs. It was a smart play by Mahomes, but you know there's some peope throwing their phone at the wall in the anger about Mahomes's slide losing them big bucks, and them thinking that the Sportsbooks somehow paid Mahomes off to make sure their bet didn't cash..

edit: According to this story, the sportsbooks were facing a huge bath, as 91% of the bets, and 84% of the money on the point spread was on the Jets. That slide gave them 34% profit (as well as the usual vig)
