Rampage Quake by the Lake - 8/12/2022

Recommended Posts

Rampage 8/13/2021 more or less exactly a year ago - featured Miro vs Fuego for  the TNT title, and also if Fuego wins he gets a contract! Doesn't that feel like a lifetime ago, but also kinda like it was just yesterday?

Also on that show: Britt vs Red Velvet for the AEW Women's Title and Kenny vs Christian for the Impact World Title.

Yowzer.

Whatcha got for us later today/tomorrow (depending on where we live), AEW?

Sammy & Tay vs Dante & Skye for the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles? Really? Awesome! I kinda had no clue those were a thing? When did Tay and Sammy win those?

The crowd reactions are gonna be insane. Our boy Octopus and his work friend among the voices raised in righteous anger and loathing!

Just one question about your Road Report there, Broctopus: Who is this Jasmyne person you keep referring to?

Beardhausen vs Ass Club

I am not trying to be controversial, but my guess is that this match will be quite entertaining. And also it will likely offend certain Jim Cornette podcast-following pro wrestling grandpas, which fills my heart with purest schadenfruede.

And I have read reports of two (2) Trustbusters matches being on this one (1) show!

Will we get to hear "Cash In" (the awesome Jane's Addiction rip-off Trustbusters theme that debuted on the YouTube shows) twice?

The matches, reportedly:

Sonny Kiss vs Parker Beaudreaux! which is doubly awesome because Sonny Kiss on TV and people who don't watch the YouTube shows get to enjoy Parker Beaudreaux (and his theme song) just like us real fans, which is generous of AEW.

Orange Cassidy vs Ari Daivari!

I mean, really, this looks to be one hell of an entertaining hour of pro wrestling TV.

Also, at least three (3) interview/promos have been announced:

American Bryan of The BCCs, presumably talking about Dragon vs Red Death III, which I assume all of us are unbearably excited for (if not, don't tell me).

Lee and Swerve!!

And Tony (S) interviews Hook. I hope Hook just eats chips at him. FTW = Fun Television Wrestling!

I think that Sammy and Tay won the AAA Mixed tag titles at the first Triplemania XXX event for this year.

The belts are well established.   I remember Electroshock and Lady Apache becoming the inaugural champs at the first Triplemania event of 2003.  Electroshock could not work for jack in the early days, but his gimmick was awesome.  I was a mark for the mask.  I think it was supposed to look like Hannibal Lecter's mask from Silence of the Lambs.  It was great!

There were tears when the father / daughter team of Gran Apache and Faby Apache won the belts on normal television in 2004.  My own daughter had just turned two.  WE COULD BE FUTURE CONTENDERS~!  This was back when cable television rocked and everyone got Telemundo just because.  Now all of the good Mexican cable networks with Lucha on them are part of some fucking bundle that costs extra.

I was really hoping that Brazo del Plata and Martha Villalobos would've had a mixed title run.  They were monsters and probably could've beaten most of the male teams in AAA.

I wish we were getting Slim J vs Orange Cassidy because I think that would be an amazing combination of styles but AriVari is a fine work of his own right! It's also beautiful getting Sonny Kiss on TV, especially with the cause of this being on Dark which has been gaining an increasing amount of time being mentioned and shown on TV. Believe it or not, the last time Sonny graced our screens was 2020!

Slim J is a scientific wrestling nightmare.  He is like the white boy hip hop version of Jamie Noble's technically gifted redneck.

Sleep on the skills because of the gimmick and get your fucking arm cranked the wrong way.

We're getting pretty close to the one year anniversary of me deciding to check out this AEW thing some of my friends have been posting/tweeting about.

On paper, in terms of true star power, this is not a good night of pro wrestling, but it does look to be an entertaining night of pro wrestling. But I'm always happy to see Dante Martin and Skye Blue on TV (such a sweet young couple), and very excited to see Sonny get some airtime.

I'm pretty sure I am too. The first Rampage feels right about that time for me, where I caught the main event to see Christian, and then I actually started following with Punk's debut the next week, so that's a year from tomorrow and the following week.

What a year, huh?

I think the only Wildside tape I bought back in the day was for Slim J vs Red in what had to be one of Slim's first 15-20 matches and you could tell he was already really good.

We've moved to Cinnaporn.

My great-aunt made something like that called Sticky Buns, honestly superior to the basic glazed cinnamon roll in my opinion.

edit: Here's a recipe, apparently a Pennsylvania Dutch thing. https://bakingamoment.com/homemade-sticky-buns-on-sweet2eatbaking-com/

In the fabled days when indeed everyone got Telemundo and Univision and they would throw on random AAA and CMLL between telenovelas and Sabado Gigante episodes, I remember seeing Electroshock and the other sucksters like Chessman and Cibernetico. Are they still on the top of the bills over there?

EDIT: I also wanna see the match that this photo came from (NSFW for blood)

He is also one of the greatest brawlers of the 21st century, he made Way of the Blade twice, and could have made it a couple of more times. Watch his performances in this War Games, incredible stuff

The Viking metal tag gets used a lot these days. I always refer to you guys as melodic death metal or death metal who happen to write about Norse and Viking lore. But with this album I feel like there's a ton of branching out, particularly in a song like “Get in the Ring”. You look at that music video, which is such a fucking ton of fun and has almost a Mad Max feel. You're keeping it in the Amon Amarth world, but at the same time there's a lot happening on this record.

I think so. I mean, there's just so many Viking songs you can do where people dress up like Vikings in the videos. So we wanted to do something different. And this song actually was written for Erick Redbeard as a walk in song, the wrestler Erick Redbeard First of all, we wanted to have him in the video and then we wanted to do this kind of weird spectacle video with an apocalyptic touch. And I think it turned out great.

When did you become acquainted with him? I remember watching WWE and he was on the show wearing an Amon Amarth shirt. Me being a long time wrestling and metal fan thought, now that's fucking cool.

Yeah, that's kind of where we got to know him, or know of him anyways, when he did that. And then we actually ran into him because we were on a South American run for Jomsviking. And when we came to Costa Rica, as we were waiting for the luggage, a bunch of wrestlers and him were at the airport at the same time, because they had an event down there in Costa Rica. And so we talked to them and we invited him and one of the other wrestlers to come to the show later. And they show up at the show and we hung out and had a good time.

And then he contacted us. I mean, we asked him if he wanted to be in the videos on the previous record for the trilogy videos, which he is. And then he asked us if we wanted to write this walk in song for him, and that's how "Get In The Ring" was made. We didn't want to put together any old song. We wanted to have a really good song that we could put in the album as well. So when this song came around, we felt that this would be a perfect song for that specific thing for his walk in song. So that's what we did, the song for him with all the lyrics and everything to work with that.

I swear to Miro's God if we get Amon Amarth entrance music...

This is actually my first time hearing Amon Amarth. Swedish Bolt Thrower, apparently. It's not bad but is totally unchallenging. You can tell the director was specifically hipped to Accept's "Midnight Mover" video by the band, only they told him to maybe not make people puke this time around.

Serious caution: If you are easily motion sick you do not need to watch that.

It's a battle of differing t-shirts!  Dragonslayer is so fucking awesome. American Dragon is so fucking awesome!  Well that heated up nicely.  Skye Blue and Dante Martin should make out like Sammy and Tay!  PUT THE BELTS ON THEM!  Dante looks fucking great in this- bringing the ass stomp to his hometown.  Skye Blue looks fucking great in this too- bringing the ass stomp to her boyfriends hometown!  I don't understand why Tay is Tay Melo now.  I never understood the Spanish taking of the maiden name of the man's... mother?  Or what is it?  I'm not the smartest man on earth.   Either way, this match is waaaaay fun.  Sammy and Tay are so fucking great as HEAT MACHINES.  GREAT ludicrous double team by Tay AND DANTE!  Tay crushes Skye with a TAY KO!  That was awesome.  PUT ALL THE BELTS ON TAY MELO!  Hey!  It's Parker Boudreaux!  It's Sonny Kiss!  Sonny Kiss gets on TV for the first time since 2020!  Sonny Kiss gets squashed by a guy who had six matches in the WWE!  The ASS BOYS!  Danhausen DOESN'T have a beard!  Erick Redbeard ISN'T wearing a Kreator shirt!  Austin Gunn is fucking great leaning into getting murdered by a Redbeard shoulder block.  Danhausen becomes our face in peril as we go to picture in picture.  Danhausen hits a crazy Tarantula Hold while we wait for a normal picture.  The Ass Boys are great beating on him after he releases the hold.  The Gunn Clubb are a budding great heel tag team.  Erick Redbeard is fucking GREAT as Robert Gibson.  Danhausen tags in and Billy Gunn CHEATS to make Redbeard fall out the ring!  Austin hits a Famouser on Danhausen for the WIN!  THAT was fun.  This is a night of fun wrestling.  Allright, Zack Clayton will get slaughtered by Hook next week.  It's Orange Cassidy!  It's Ari Diavari!  Diavari produced that awesome women's tag match where Jamie Hayter got the win.  Cassidy puts together great matches.  This should be good from a theoretical standpoint.  Diavari does the Jericho in Canada thing of turning on his hometown.  There is added extra fucking around to start this.  This match is good.  Hey!  Isn't it time for the Trustbusters to get in a feud with the House of Black.  Brodie King versus Parker Boudreaux would be neat.  ALL WRESTLING GOES THROUGH THE HOUSE OF BLACK!  Man, Cassidy is OVER.  He is such a great babyface.  Ari Diavaru attempts a Poontangler!  This match is fucking great!  Cassidy is the BEST BOUT MACHINE!  Diavari is like the new Rick Martell!  POONTANGLER!  FOR TWO!  ORANGE PUNCH!  Man, that was WAAAAAAAAAY better than it had any right to be.  Postmatch, the Trustbusters get their heat back!  Sonny Kiss comes out to make the save!  She turns on Orange Cassidy!  AWESOME!  That was fucking great.  SONNY KISS IS EVIL!  YES! EVIL SONNY KISS!  AEW RULES THE MOTHERFUCKING WORLD!

Can we just keep Sonny Kiss and Slim J as a team and dump the rest of the Trustbusters? And whoever that was in the Hook segment.

Thinking positively: mixed tag was fun even tho mixed tag rules are a crutch and Daniel Garcia is awesome
