Dolfan in NYC
Miami commissioners have given the approval for the sale of the 3 acres of land needed for the Beckham MLS Stadium. So it looks like it's finally going to happen.
ReiseReise
Anyone else following the UEFA Under 21 Championship? Kind of a weird mode, 12 participants in three groups, only group winners and best runner up advances. This means semis were two first places meet each other while the best runner up meets one group winner.

ReiseReise
Looks to be an interesting tournament so far. On the awkward-news-front, the German Regionalliga Südwest, which is one of the five fourth divisions which are divided by regional aread, will be joined by a non-competitive Chinese Under 20 selection as "20th team". The plan is for them to play 38 friendlies. Waldhof Mannheim, who used to be a pretty big club, already stated to play another club which was relegated the previous season instead. Shitstorm has already started. The whole concept is part of a German-Chinese-Football-cooperation.
Jiji
Speaking of Chinese footballing calamities, has anybody else seen the Oscar incident? Hilarious. Adding to the joke is an 8 game suspension for Oscar for kicking the ball at two opposing players. Whut?
Pete
Quote CHICAGO – U.S. Soccer announced on Friday the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match between FC Cincinnati and the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night at Nippert Stadium will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, and streamed on the ESPN App. Kickoff will be at 8 p.m. ET. Awesome news. Cincy has pulled some spectacular crowds and this should be no exception.

FC Cincy's become the darlings of the local TV sports reports. Seems like they get as much screen time during the local news as the Reds and Bengals these days. ESPN2's quite a jump up from only being on the local Sinclair affiliate that's been showing the Saturday games.
sabremike
Luis Robles is the only guy today who shouldn't be fucking ashamed of his performance tonight. Heartless gutless fucking disgrace. And Sascha is Old Yeller after getting rabies at this point. He's so done it isn't even funny. Getting rid of Dax may top firing Arena as dumbest move in team history.

Death From Above
Are Spain closing in on being to fans now what Brazil was in their heyday? It's just good player after good player after good player that keeps coming now. They may never match the three major trophies in a row (maybe no one will), but man they are going to be good for a long, long time.
ReiseReise
Since I had followed football, Spain always had amazing youth teams performing great at tournaments. Whether they will be great at senior level or not really depends on how they'll be implemented later on. Last Euro still seemed to be dominated by those players left of the "hattrick heroes", and they looked old against Croatia and Italy. The next tourney might be entirely different, though. zev
FC Cincinnati won tonight in front of a home crowd of over 30 thousand. Pretty good considering the team didn't exist 2 years ago.

ReiseReise
German U21 takes the Euro-Title with a 1-0 win over Spain in the finals. Happy for the boys. Considering the Confed Cup squad is quite young on average aswell, there might be some good adjustments to come over the next years. Now, if only footie could stop being such a corrupt shitshow... Roman
What's the opinion on Patrick Vieira's coaching? I've recently read some articles (English press) that borderline deify him so that got me curious.
sabremike
BTW great job by the MLS schedule maker to have two of the three Canadian teams play on the road today. It's not like today is a national holiday there or anything.
ReiseReise
Confed Cup has to be the first time since I can consciously remember that I haven't seen a match of a FIFA tournament with national teams. Despite my team being in it and winning it.

Afterwards I also hope they dedicate the win to the memory of Belfast Celtic.
