You've obiviously never read anything with Rocket Raccoon in it.

You say that like Superman hadn't broken Zod's neck before.

I didn't mind Superman breaking Zod's neck.

But shit, Rocket's got a higher kill count than 90% of Marvel's villians combined.  Him, Punisher, and Deadpool could start the "we just kill muthafuckas, screw this capturing shit" club, and rack up a bodycount higher than Galaticus.

As much as I hate to name drop/glom onto a famous person's opinion, I thought that Mark Waid pretty much nailed it.  The problem isn't that Superman broke Zod's neck, the problem is that the two hours leading up to that didn't sell Clark as being the kind of person for whom that was a big deal.  They didn't sell the neck snap as an OH SHIT because you never really bought that he was compassionate enough to have to debate the issue with himself.

Not to mention the reckless abandon to which he battled Zod through Metropolis with, not caring about toppling buildings or collateral damage.

How will you handle a Raccoon being so reckless?

By caring more about the well being of innocent civilians than Big Blue.

Alternatively: By accepting that Rock is the kind of character who doesn't give a damn about collateral damage and kills without mercy when it seems like the best action.  Which is a trait that works for him much better than it does for any version of Superman published after 1946 and doesn't feel nearly as "off" because it doesn't contradict everything we've been trained to believe about the character.

I love how a bunch of bland, half considered stories with twenty lines of dialogue total, stories that have been trampled on and ignored and rewritten and trampled on over and over and over again, are somehow these sacrosanct texts that cannot be reimagined or fleshed out by other people.

Miley Cyrus wearing snakeskin while eating a crunchy taco is going to get ten billion views in four minutes.

I agree, Brent Lang of The Wrap is to blame for starting this with his trolling headline.

Also, I think you are taking it too seriously.  It was comparing the social media reaction to the first trailer release for this movie to that of other comic book movies that actually both did strong box office business.  So maybe there is no correlation, but you can also argue that it bodes well for Guardians if it got better online buzz than the likes of Amazing Spider-Man and Man of Steel, both of which were based on established, big brand name characters.  I mean it could mean nothing, but I don't think there is anything wrong with analyzing the numbers either.

And unsurprisingly, FSW is back in Guardians of the Galaxy hating mode.  This is going to be a fun six months.

Yeah no way does this do MoS numbers. If it does they should probably stop making Cap/Thor movies and just make Squirrel Girl and Chimpanzee Lad movies.

You're correct that it won't do MoS numbers, but I really doubt that Marvel is expecting it to, given how unknown the characters are. But if it does better than Thor 1 and Captain America 1, I'd say that's a victory.

Why not have a Squirrel Girl/Detective Chimp cross-over, I'm sure they could license him from DC if they plan it. :-)

Here I am for the 500th time to explain how Superman was not reckless... seriously what is wrong with some of you? What movie did you watch? I've seen it a good 3-4 times and all destruction is caused by Zod. Superman saves a ton of people throughout the film. Stop saying stupid things and rewatch it. Ha.
