odessasteps Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I hope American sports fan aren’t as paranoid and suspicious towards officials as European futbol fans are. But then American officials have been implemented in gambling scandals. Not sure about futbol referees off the top of my head, like I am with Tim Donaghey (sp). 1
Brian Fowler Posted October 25 Posted October 25 This is probably just coincidence, but teams are now 0-5 the week after playing the Lions (Dallas had a bye.)
Tabe Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Two different referees watched that facemask from no more than 10 feet away and didn't call it. It boggles the mind. I would love to sit down next to both of them, watch the replay, and get them to explain why they didn't call it. Since they both SAW IT. 3
jaedmc Posted October 25 Posted October 25 One game I think ref's should wear body cams to show how different the game looks to them. 1
RIPPA Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Via an email to season ticket holders- Miami will be hosting an international game next season
BloodyChamp Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Hopkins will probably be good and occasionally great in an Andy Reid offense. Any WR who wants to play is good in that offense, even the ones that aren’t actually good. If that Toney dude just knew how to catch he would have been great because he was sure always open.

BobbyWhioux Posted October 25 Posted October 25 My pet complaint for a while is part of the NFL's officiating problem is that the minutae of the rulebook has now moved beyond the capacity of the human eye to adjudicate in real time. I think players continuing to be bigger stronger and faster than ever before plays into that as well. (And to add my other pet complaint to the mix, the modern uniforms and the overproliferation of new looks and alternate looks effectively creates "camouflage" in certain matchups. No player should ever be allowed to wear gloves the same shade of yellow as penalty flags, for instance, but several teams do). Plus, refs tend to be older dudes and they're insanely still not full time league employees, but moonlighters doing their second jobs. None of this really answers "how the fuck do two of you look at a flagrant face mask and not see/call it?" of course (or the real question, "why doesn't the league give these guys more help seeing this stuff?"). But I can sorta understand why they might miss some subtler/quicker face masks, at least, especially since they're also expected to watch a billion other things, including but not limited to apparently Goodell will shoot your dog if you don't hit your Ineligible Man Downfield quota. Or [TINFOIL HAT MODE ENGAGED] how the replay challenge system has always had exemptions (no penalties, no judgement calls, nothing in the last two minutes) that prevent you from challenging what/when you need to most.
Tabe Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Incidentally, the referees responded to questions by saying they were blocked and couldn't see the facemask. Never mind that there are screen caps showing them looking right at it with no blocking of their line of sight. 2
Dolfan in NYC Posted October 25 Author Posted October 25 Tua has cleared the Protocol and will start on Sunday for the Dolphins vs. Arizona. 1
Travis Sheldon Posted October 25 Posted October 25 The refs were so focused on seeing the play, they missed seeing the play. Not like the Skol Bandits were going to make a comeback, but it does give the fans the thought they were screwed. Typical NFL booking.

And, really, Darnold is partly at fault for sitting back there in the end zone for half an hour. But... 1

I wish someone would have brought up the obvious like Al does most weeks on commentary about gambling. 28-20 would’ve been a point and a half under, but conveniently giving the Rams two more to make it 30-20 meant the over hit by a half point. I don’t want to be that guy but what are the odds at least one of the refs had some money on the game or coming their way if the over hit? Especially based on the screen caps showing they saw the face mask.

Especially based on the screen caps showing they saw the face mask. I would say the odds are somewhere north of zero. Personally, I think called and uncalled personal fouls should be reviewable. I saw a clip of Rich Eisen the other day where he was saying that his #1 rule change would be to allow reviews of personal fouls. That old saying, "they always get the second guy"? That should be retired thanks to video reviews. And bogus safeties. 2
Travis Sheldon Posted October 25 Posted October 25 If scores are reviewed via replay, penalties should be as well. I'm not saying review every play, but do it like the last two minutes or give the teams penalty challenges. 3

"it's not like they were gonna win anyway"/"it didn't effect the outcome of the game" being treated as an acceptable excuse is how we got into this mess in the first place. 4

Brian Fowler Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Remember, the refs already made it clear they won't accept having certain judgement calls made reviewable. Have we already forgotten the one year experiment with pass interference?
NikoBaltimore Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I barely heard it on TV but wasn't this officiating crew part of another bad missed call? Thought I heard that right but I took a call after that part and missed context. If there is truth to that then sounds like banning the crew from NFL officiating would help a lot even though it's not gonna be anywhere close to happening. But it sure would be nice. 1 1
hammerva Posted October 27 Posted October 27 It is still early but imagine if the Patriots beat the Jets By the way, not a fan of the all white uniforms. The helmets are fine but can't get into the rest
RIPPA Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Lions dropped 35 on the Titans in the first half Do they hate them for random reasons like they hate the Cowboys?

Tabe Posted October 27 Posted October 27 The Lions had *9* yards passing in the first half. And scored 35 points. And they continue to have more offensive touchdowns (5) than incompletions (2).
Brian Fowler Posted October 27 Posted October 27 And that's not an ideal start to the second half for the Titans. Goff still has 28 passing yards, the team still has 9 net yards passing after sacks. They're up 42-14.
