UPDATE 7 OF 19 - through June 22

Standings
1 [ 4] The Z - 4 points (2/2, tiebreak 0.04)

This'll be the week I'll gain lots of points. I have Indiana Jones at #1 on my BO list and #3 on my RT list.

I still hope it's going to be a success at the box office despite the middling reviews. I certainly already bought my IMAX tickets.

It's crawled its way to 67% fresh, but weeks of stink from the Cannes screening lingers. Box office projections looking soft. As someone else who has it #1 on BO, my prediction: Pain.

I wonder why people still do the out of competition screenings when Cannes probably has little bearing on the North America box office. You're basically taking a unnecessary chance that people (a much harsher sect of film critics) crap on it. It can only detract from the general audience's interest in seeing it.

My theory is they were following the template of Maverick at Cannes last year and all the Cruise fanfare that went into that kind of legacy sequel/moviestar rollout. They were chasing that with an inferior product, and are suffering the consequences.

Mangold is so getting canned off that Star Wars movie. Nobody has ever been so fired.

Hearing that Ruby Gillman was a huge flop. Worst first weekend ever for a Dreamworks movie or some such.

Aside from watching the trailer and looking up who worked on it when I was putting together my lists, I haven’t heard or seen a single thing about this movie outside of this thread.

Literally.

I saw like one trailer snippet, and that was fairly recent.

RT Audience Score is in the 80th percentile but the pro reviews are mixed.  I think I had it in the middle of my ballot so I should get a few more points because of the bad money draw, but I should be okay review wise.

Oh wow, Mission: Impossible could actually take the top spot from Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse on the RT list.

It's at 97% with 74 reviews so far already.

I have it very high on my list, but not quite that high.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is now 98% fresh with 104 reviews.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is second on my RT list behind only Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. One of the few things I've got right this time round.

Domestic Box Office For Jul 4, 2023 - Box Office Mojo

If you bet money that the #1 film at the U.S. box office on July 4 would be a crowd-funded "Christian action-thriller" from the studio behind "The Chosen," you should just go to Vegas right now and be a full-time betting guru.

It gets weirder

I was under the impression this and it's sequel were the final Mission Impossible movies. I guess at this point we will see him in outer space.

Ok I'm someplace with an internet connection, so here it is. 2 movies debuting over the past week, lots of movement in the standings, and the top 2 entrants have opened up a pretty big lead on the rest of us.
