MORELOCK Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 That's the main reason I'm not as high on those Christian-Orton matches as some. I'm pretty sure that's not even the only one that ended that way.

The only purpose seems to be to eat a superkick. It's just Flair's eternally dopey top rope move updated a bit. Hate it. I can't remember what it was exactly , but Shelton did a have a springboard move as a part of his arsenal at the time if I'm remembering right. 1

Think it was a springboard clothesline Shelton Benjamin used. Edited August 30, 2019 by The Natural 1

Bugs me when it's out of character to set up the finisher: Vengeance 2005. Same year as Michaels/Benjamin. Edited August 30, 2019 by The Natural 1
John from Cincinnati Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Re: The Christian-Orton matches, those counters are based off a middle rope sunset flip Christian was doing at the time. For the SummerSlam match, we're meant to assume he'd clear the steps and get the sunset flip but Orton cut him off. He of course wouldn't get that far, but it was part of his moveset at the time.

I get the set-up, he was just never close to being in position for a sunset flip. That and he lost to Orton with the exact same spot at least three times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mLgjoAFJxs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuNbqNVdgdY I like Christian most of the time, but that made him look really stupid. 1

The second example being from 2014 isn't something I'll hold against the 2011 stuff. It'd been a few years as that point. Might as well recycle a spot that went over at the time. Of course the sequence peaked in their first PPV match when Christian faked the sunset flip to get Orton to go for the RKO, and then Christian follow-up up with an actual sunset flip. That was good stuff. I can see how your mileage varies on the rest though. Clearly it's a spot both guys fell in love with, which has its limits when you're doing the match x-number of times on TV for six months or stretching for variants on something that worked well the first couple times. maciej Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I absolutely adore this unexpected DDT out of an early sequence of holds from Ricky Marvin on Arez 3
Boydy Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Dolph Ziggler should start patting his back, he could be the new Barry Harowitz, he is already a jobber so at least he has got that down.
