Gonzo Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Well, the Poptimism thread got blown up with the old board. This is unacceptable and must be changed. Since I haven't heard any of the really new stuff over the past few months, I'll just go with some fairly recent ones instead. Some Colbie Caillat. . . Some Ingrid Michaelson. . . And some Sara Bareilles Bring forth the pop! 1
MORELOCK Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 At least we know the thread can only go up from there.
Gonzo Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 It's like you saved my post from the last thread! This is a positive, yes?
RIPPA Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 This is a positive, yes? Yes :-) I mentioned this in the random thread - but I am really ashamed at how much I like the Smurfs 2 song
Matt D Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 That Heart Attack song is the worst pop song I've heard in two years, I think. It's atrocious. 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 That Heart Attack song is the worst pop song I've heard in two years, I think. It's atrocious. Give it a chance..
Matt D Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I refuse. Instead, I'll post some other stuff. I think the "Hello...." bit is absurdly good. I can't speak for the rest of the song but that's some sort of drunken rave bliss or something. Having a daughter now, Kesha scares the crap out of me. Speaking of things that scare the crap out of me. Other things that scare me: How thoroughly Lana Del Ray has shifted into being a pop zombie: And this one is abjectly great. I kind of love it. It's currently on my more indy alt-rock channel but I imagine it'll be a pop song in a month or two.
Burgundy LaRue Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I finally remembered to track down this song.
Matt D Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Let's do another compare/contrast with Lovato Two songs that came out at almost exactly the same time. Lovato's Made in the USA: Bonnie McKee (Who writes songs for just about every pop singer)'s American Girl It's like the goofus and gallant of pop songs here 1
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 The Bonnie McKee song seems like something Kesha would have sold to Miley Cyrus for extra cash, but wouldn't actually record herself. It's OK, but not as fun as one would expect a song like this to be. She's missing Kesha's goofy charm.
DreamBroken Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Had heard it once before but didn't know who sang it, loving that Bonnie McKee song!
Lazlo Woodbine Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 This came out a couple of years ago now, my favourite pop song of the past 5 years or so, still on my mp3 player. 1
cool arrow Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 You may recognize this tune from a Dasani Drops commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba1RxbA3Jn8
stiffshots Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Not a super-huge fan of Ms. American Idol #1, but there's no question this song has a military-grade hook embedded in it.
Niners Fan in CT Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Couple years old now but one of my all-time favorites.
Ryback Hates Bullies Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 "We run thing, things don't run we" - I really like this. Unoriginal as fuck, but there's a charm to it nonetheless. I now notice Matt D posted it in spoiler tags above, but fuck it.
RIPPA Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 This came out a couple of years ago now, my favourite pop song of the past 5 years or so, still on my mp3 player. This song has no business being as fucking catchy as it is. Of course - I am still trying to figure out what the fuck she is wearing. 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Mike Will Made It is a hell of a producer. Anyone weirded out by the "Everyone in the line in the bathroom tryin to get a line in the bathroom" line?
cool arrow Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Hey, power pop is still pop. I just found out about these guys; it's one of the Hanson brothers, James Iha, the bassist from Fountains of Wayne, and fucking BUN E. CARLOS~! 1
Ryback Hates Bullies Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wh1HAWKU8 Gaga set the bar too high for herself really, but I definitely like this more than 'Born This Way'.
