RIPPA Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 Per Woj - Dan Hurley is staying at UCONN The Lakers offered him 6 years, $70 million
hammerva Posted June 12 Posted June 12 The Logo and without argument one of the greatest talents from the state of West Virginia Jerry West passed away today. Hopefully his legacy will be remembered a lot more than what people assume it was on Winning Time.
RIPPA Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 Per Woj, Jeff Van Gundy will be Ty Lue’s top assistant for the Clippers
Contentious C Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Trajan Langdon as a team president makes me feel fucking old. Then again, I realized the other day that I'm practically the same age as Jayson Tatum's MOM, and she has a fucking kid old enough to be someone I cheer for. Blink of a damn eye. 2
Log Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Still looking for that job that will pay me millions of dollars to stop doing it and go away. 5
Brian Fowler Posted June 20 Posted June 20 So weird how he was the odds on favorite to the point it was prematurely announced by some reporter, then weeks of just waiting for it become official, only to have the whole Hurley thing throw it right out and now we're back where we were right after Ham got fired.
TimLivingston Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) So I have to bring up the timeline on this because it’s downright hilarious: -Shams is in on JJ to LA weeks ago, basically planting the seed that he’s the front runner -Woj then says, “Not so fast” and breaks Dan Hurley swooping in to interview to basically rub it in Shams’ face -JJ gets the job and it’s WOJ who’s first, and The Athletic has to actually print that Woj broke it. On a story Shams had weeks ago, basically The amount of pettiness from Woj is incredible. Edited June 20 by TimLivingston
Contentious C Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Whoever broke it however, as long as the Lakers keep stinking.
Zimbra Posted June 20 Posted June 20 If I were trying to keep my title window open I would simply hire a coach who has actually coached a game of basketball before. 1
Contentious C Posted June 20 Posted June 20 The problem is, the game isn't "keep your title window open", it's, "please LeBron", and no one else is going to be a bigger yes-man for him than his podcast partner. JJ's a smart guy, but the record of first-time former players/head coaches making the playoffs in Year 1 is...disastrous. I've been watching Simmons because, well, I'll watch anyone right now who's happy about Boston winning, but he went over the list, and it was ugly outside of Bird and Kerr, who inherited already-good teams. 1
blitzkrieg Posted June 20 Posted June 20 2 minutes ago, RIPPA said: Bulls are trading Alex Caruso to OKC for Josh Giddey Caruso was getting to be like John Collins where his name was constantly being floated and he never ended up being traded. I don't hate the trade since Giddey skills weren't really needed for what OKC does and I don't think the Bulls were looking to extend Caruso for what his market value is going to be. So guess it's time to start shopping Lavine around before he has a chance to get foot surgery again.
Contentious C Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Really like the move for OKC, especially since it doesn't seem like they gave up any picks in the process. They need the 3-point shooting, they need the extra body to throw at a guy like Luka or Ant, so that Dort doesn't have to do it all.
blitzkrieg Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Woj reporting that Malik Monk plans to resign with the Kings for 4 years/$78M with a player option. He probably could have gotten more in free agency from another team but apparently wants to stay in Sacramento.

The problem JJ has is that the only way the Lakers are going to be good again is to the one thing that the Lakers hate to do and that is rebuild with younger talent. Even when Kobe was at the end of the line with some of the worst Laker teams ever, their strategy is just to sign some past it's prime free agent and hope for the best.
RIPPA Posted June 24 Author Posted June 24 Cavs are hiring Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson to be HC 1
RIPPA Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 Not really a surprise but OG Anunoby has opted out of his deal with the Knicks
Dolfan in NYC Posted June 26 Posted June 26 And speaking of.... New York sends (*cracks knuckles*) Bojan Bogdanovic, FOUR unprotected 1's, an unprotected pick swap, and a 2 to Brooklyn. The return is Mikal Bridges.

I think he's a really good fit for the Knicks. I know they had a lot of extra picks. But Jumping Jesus Motherfucking Christ on a Goddamn Pogo Stick, what? 1
Brian Fowler Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Also the Nets made a hilarious trade with the Rockets (though I think it's possibly a good deal for both.) They basically sent a bunch of picks they got from Phoenix for KD to Houston and got back some of their own picks they sent to Houston for Harden.
RIPPA Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 And Woj says Houston wants those picks to trade for Kevin Durant (which everyone else says there is no way the Suns are trading him)
madl Posted June 26 Posted June 26 (edited) Trading KD seems an obvious way out of the draft hell the Suns have blundered into, so I’m wondering why they would be adamant against trading him. It’s quite possible you’re not going to get”fair value” for him, but what is his fair value these days? It seems like the days of trying to build your championship team around KD are over, and the market for KD probably won’t get any better going forward. The other side of the coin is: how sure is management that KD isn’t‘t going to ask for a trade in the near future? Edited June 26 by madl
