After what they gave up to get him, plus what they gave up to get Bridges, they had to keep OG otherwise they would've just been in the same basic place with Bridges there instead. I still think they overpaid yesterday, but they've got a damn intriguing roster with an elite scoring guard, another really good scorer, and a nice bunch of two way guys who can mostly focus on defense first. RIPPA Posted June 27, 2024 Author Posted June 27, 2024 BTW - we are at the point where teams are trading picks in the 2031 draft

In other news, Bam Adebayo is extending in Miami. 3/166. Notably this won't kick in until his contract expires at the end of this year. 1
Log Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Is it a comment on the lack of star power in this year's draft that the first round is complete and it hasn't even been mentioned here?

Contentious C Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Yeah, this entire draft is "guys who would be outside the lottery or gambles within the lottery most years". Probably still won't be as bad as 2000. Even the 2013 draft had Giannis and Gobert, so it could be worse than that. I'm mostly curious to see if Reed Sheppard ends up as Jimmer Fredette 2.0 and Alex Sarr looks like the bust a lot of people think he is. Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and Charlotte are going to continue to stink. 1
hammerva Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 And to the shock of nobody, Bronny is a Laker. Yeah JJ is fucked and doesn't even know it 2
cubbymark Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 If Bronny ends up as the Erik Watts of the NBA... 1

Brian Fowler Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Yeah at best they get a cool moment where, like, Bronny hits his dad on an alley-oop that reminds everyone of that time the Kens Griffey hit back to back home runs, but the odds on Bronny ever being more than a end of the bench guy are slim, and nearly non-existent on his dad's timeline.

Zimbra Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Are people really getting this exercised about the Lakers taking a flyer on their 55th pick? It's the 55th pick. They could have drafted a hamster and it would not matter at all.

It's the 55th pick. They could have drafted a hamster and it would not matter at all. This is the way I look at it. There were probably a couple more deserving guys at that point, but you’re usually just rearranging the deck chairs with the low second round picks. You’re probably not going to find a contributor that far down; you’re more likely to find a guy who will work cheaper & might be a slight improvement over someone already on the roster, but only because you haven't seen enough of the new guy to realize he’s not an upgrade. But Bronny & Lebron will sell tickets and maybe renergize Lebron, so…. That said, holy shit, would I not want to be in Bronny’s shoes. It’s tough to begrudge anyone a chance to work with their dad & I would probably do the same thing in his place, but getting into the pros because your dad was orchestrating the draft is not something I’d ever be comfortable with. It’.l be interesting to see if Bronny can stick in the league after LeBron retires..
Contentious C Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) Murray from the Hawks to the Pels for 2 1sts and Larry Nance. Kinda weird choice of guys to throw in from the NO roster, but I don't know the contract situation to see if he's on an expiring or not. Yep, turns out he is, so his and Capela's deal both come off the books next year, or they flip Capela soon too and Nance is there to replace him. Edited June 28, 2024 by Contentious C
blitzkrieg Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Atlanta also don't have control of their own first round picks for ummm...a while, so I imagine they'll at least attempt to make some more moves this summer. It's not like it takes that much to be a playoff team in the East.
blitzkrieg Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 D'Lo reportedly picking up his player option($18.7M) to stay with the Lakers. I have to say that I'm really surprised at that one.
Contentious C Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 No one wants to pay Moodier, Less Defensively-Capable John Starks 35M a year? Gee, what a shame.
Brian Fowler Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 LeBron has, as expected, opted out. He's widely expected to sign a three year $162 million deal with the Lakers (which is $8 million more than his original four year deal with the team) but he is eligible to sign anywhere else for up to three years and $157.5 million
Ace Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 LeBron's either gonna take the max or take a cut so they can pick up somebody.
Dolfan in NYC Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 The Clippers are giving CP3 his walking papers.
