Kevin Wilson
Congrats to Acuna for 40/40, also locked up that NL MVP (I don't think it was seriously in doubt but he put a nail in the coffin over the last two weeks).
RIPPA
Aaron Judge became the first Yankee player in history to have more than one three HR game in a season EDIT - he has 35 HRs on the season which apparently ties the record for most HRs in a season by a player who missed at least 50 games

In 1994, Matt Williams played 50 games less (112) than a full season - 47 because of the lockout, 3 because whatever - and hit 43 homers. Albert Belle hit 36 in 106 the same year. RIPPA
The Yankees were eliminated from the playoff race yesterday so the remaining teams battling for a spot in the AL are Toronto, Texas, Seattle, Houston (3 of those 4 teams will make the playoffs) The NL is more chaos - there are 7 teams still alive (though San Fran and San Diego should be eliminated any moment now)
RIPPA
Per reporting out of San Diego (and this has nothing to do with all the reports about how the team hates each other especially greedy greedy Mookie Betts Manny Machado) The team will be reducing spending to around $200 million. This is in part because "they are out of compliance with MLB regulations regarding their debt service ratio.” (This actually won't be too tough as they have $40 million coming off the books with Blake Snell, Josh Hader and Drew Pomeranz hitting FA) Also - AJ Preller isn't a lock to stick around (I mean its reported he is gonna get fired every year and then he doesn't so who knows) Edited September 26, 2023 by RIPPA
Dolfan in NYC
After the game yesterday Aaron Boone was asked if he had thoughts on what might be his final home game as Yankees manager. He said he hadn't given it much thought as he "hasn't been told" if he's staying or going. I'm expecting his security fob will be deactivated about 3 seconds after the final pitch on Sunday.

odessasteps
The Yankees also had an awful crowd for a make up game yesterday, despite the announced attendance being close to the usual number. Insert joke about padded wrestling attendances.

But yes, the 41,000 number was some total "The Khmer Rouge has treated us with respect & dignity"-grade b.s.

RIPPA
In what is one of the worst kept secrets - Terry Francona is going to retire at the end of the season Though the team won't officially make an announcement, they will be handing out "Thank You Terry" t-shirts at tomorrow's (Wednesday) game which is Cleveland's last home game of the season

RIPPA
The Brewers clinched the NL Central due to the Cubs... well being the Cubs The Phillies clinched the top NL Wild Card And the Marlins are rip shit pissed at the Mets after last night's game was postponed due to "unplayable field conditions" It should be noted that Baltimore, Philly and Boston - who all got just as much rain as NY over the weekend - all played home games last night

hammerva
For people who don't get Brooks Robinson and why his passing is so huge for baseball fans, he is the 3rd base version of Ozzie Smith. Was Ozzie a great hitter. Hell I am not even sure of Ozzie was a good hitter although his biggest memory was a home run in a playoff game. But what Ozzie was one of the greatest defensive players in his position and not sure there was a close 2nd. Ozzie was also the team leader and really the ambassador for the team on and off the field. Before Cal, Brooks Robinson was the face of that team and represented the O's and baseball on and off the field. And not really just Baltimore area pretty much the entire DMV area and even West Virginia as I remember him appearing in a few minor league/little league kids events.
