WBD is in the process of gutting TCM, firing their programmer and several other top-level staff yesterday, so Spielberg, Scorcese, and PT Anderson are setting up a meeting with Zaslav to tell him to get his shit together.

It won't work, but it's nice someone is trying.

Weekend projections for “Asteroid City” were an optimistic $6 million, making $9 million a huge win for Focus and for specialized film. It expanded more rapidly, but that performance is better than any single week for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” or for Anderson’s previous best weekend performer, “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” This level of performance doesn’t suggest it will reach those levels, but $30 million domestic (too early to suggest that) would be a huge achievement. “The Whale” and “The Fabelmans,” the two best late 2022 awards contenders, did under $20 million.

Here is a summary of what happened

https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/07/05/gq-pulled-david-zaslav-article/

As noted - Zaslav's camp bitched to GQ so GQ made extensive changes to the article

The author of the article - freelance film critic Jason Bailey - told GQ to take his name of the article.

GQ pulled the article instead

GQ says they pulled the article because they won't run an article without an author. They also said the article "wasn't properly edited before going live"

Zaslav's camp says their complaint was because they were never asked for comment which Bailey confirmed was true (in that he never asked them for comment)

(If this is true...)

Pissing off some of the internet's biggest psychopaths is certainly a choice on Zaslav's part.

It appears to not be true. They only moved one trailer to private, left the others up. They said it's because of a music licensing issue and when they have it straightened out the trailer will be made public again.
