I, for one, don't like that the ad algorithm on this board sees me as a late 40's male-identifying wrestling fan and thus has decided I need an Asian or Eastern European mail order bride.  Or prostitute, or whatever.

Time for me to disable ad block by the sound of it

Remember when I said this?

There's an error which suggests that even though users are (rightly) being forced to https, the site is located at http:

Uncaught DOMException: Failed to execute 'pushState' on 'History': A history state object with URL 'http://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/9741-cant-move-pages-backforward/page/2/' cannot be created in a document with origin 'https://deathvalleydriver.com' and URL 'https://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/9741-cant-move-pages-backforward/page/3/#comments'.

The first step in troubleshooting is to navigate to the part of the server where the site is (presumably public_html/forum or something like that) and see what value base_url has in the file conf_global.php. If it's http, then add the missing s to the end and save. (It might be that the display goes weird, losing all formatting as a result. If that happens, you'll need to clear the cache by logging into your admin panel and then Support > Get Support > Clear System Caches.)

Somebody on another site has reported the same problem to Invision Community: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/479277-unable-to-change-page-numbers/

 Here's their tech support's response:

Quote

You have a conflict, your conf_global.php URL may be set to HTTP whereas, you have a server redirect to HTTPS. You would need to ensure your conf_global.php URL is HTTPS as well.

So, what I said.

I'm having a problem with this now, got a new computer and I'm on a different version of Firefox than I was.  I'm on page 4 of this thread, can't click on 1, 2 or 3 or use the previous button

I thought exempting deathvalleydriver.com from Firefox's automatic https protocol would work, but it hasn't.  Do I need to fuck with certificates/permissions?   Exempt in ABP?  I can't remember what I did before, but this was happening a while back and I fixed it

For whatever reason, even with all the permissions set as strong as they can get about half the time the site/browser/universe will force the https version and you simply will not be able to change pages. There have been several offered potential solutions on the admin end in this topic but sadly as swell as the people who run this site are they do not seem to really have the inclination to fix this 😕

Yeah I used to be hit or miss but now my only options are manually changing the page number in the address bar or going back and then clicking on the thread again. I've actually mostly gotten used to it.

It may be less "not inclined" and more "not possessing the ability to".  Phil and Dolfan are not programmers.  I ended up running several Invision boards over the last 15-20 years for various things and have had serious issues getting them to do what they're supposed to do, even with detailed instructions, and I have a programming background.  I can't imagine trying to fix pointers when you don't know anything about php, or where to look to change the pointers.

Those two are  under no mandate to keep the board going since Dean's passing.  That it's still here, I'll deal with some page number inconvenience and not give them shit for not knowing how to change a setting they never signed up for needing to know how to change.

Not being able to change page numbers affects me across the board now. Mobile, laptop, desktop, etc. Doesn't matter what browser I use.

Ultimately, I don't care. I saw this updated and thought maybe someone else was experiencing the same thing. I'm of the same mindset as Raziel - Phil and Dolfan don't have to keep this going. I'm happy they do. Clicking on my mouse wheel to open the next page in a new tab and closing the old tab is pretty easy. Far easier than asking for a fix.

I've had the problem for a long time and it never worked for me and I'm just used to right clicking on the next page button now. Minor inconvenience overall.

I mean I said they were swell folks 🙂

I will say though, if you have 15-20 years experience running invision boards and possibly do know what pointers are (or any of the several other possible solutions offered)... even if they aren't programmers they can still ask for help. I'm just sayin' >_>

(Start a DVDVR tip jar to make it worthwhile, I'd chip in $10 to be able to change pages in peace and probably ain't the only one).

Oh my God, this works?! I've been trying to highlight the page number in the address bar and replace it with the next page number like a sucker all this time!?

this just started happened for me today, changing it to http instead of https seems to have fixed it.  not ideal, but workable.

and it meant I could finally view a 2nd page on the unread content on activity, been bugging me for the longest time but never cared enough to highlight/resolve it.
