TNA Impact Wrestling Spoilers for 10/6/16

Recommended Posts

*Taped for Xplosion: Jade def. Laurel Van Ness. Madison Rayne did commentary.

TNA Impact Wrestling - Airing October 6, 2016 from Orlando, FL

*TNA World Champ Lashley came out for a promo. Impact Grand Champ Aron Rex interrupted. Eventually this was followed by Broken Matt Hardy w/ Reby & Maxel, DJ Z, and Gail Kim all talking about why their championships were the most important. President Billy Corgan came out and announced that champions would defend their titles tonight - except DJ Z who would compete in an X Division tag match next.

*Eli Drake hosted the Fact of Life in a new talk show set with his guest Ethan Carter III and the two went back and forth on the mic.

*DJ Z, Mandrews, & Braxton Sutter def. Andrew Everett, Trevor Lee, & Marshe Rockett

*Cody & Brandi Rhodes came out for a promo. Cody put over TNA and announced that he has a shot at the world title. Mike Bennett & Maria interrupt to argue and they end up in a brawl until Bennett & Maria run away. Cody takes mic and says before he gets his title match, he wants Bennett next week.

*Gail Kim def. Sienna (w/ Maria Kanellis, Laurel Van Ness, & Allie) to retain the knockouts championship. After the match, Maria, Sienna, and Laurel beat down Gail while Allie refuses to join in. Maria announces that her rematch will be no DQ.

*Aron Rex def. Baron Dax via submission in Round 2 to retain the Impact Grand championship.

*Broken Matt Hardy & Brother Nero def. Decay in a Weapons Steel Cage Match to retain the TNA Tag Team Championships.

*Lashley gets to pick his opponent between EC3, Eddie Edwards, or Moose. Lashley picks Edwards, claiming he will be the easiest match.

*Eddie Edwards def. Lashley to win the TNA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Edwards celebrated his championship win joined by Aron Rex, Moose, DJ Z, Braxton Sutter, Mandrews, & Robbie E.

Questionable booking, I am sad to see the premature end of Lashley's epic title reign like this. I loved the last two Lashley/Edwards matches and the rivalry there but the timing here now seems all wrong

His fight is Oct 21 so if he isn't already focusing on it - he is fucked.

So it would have made more sense for him to lose at Bound For Glory - then he wouldn't even have to show up for the tapings.

Yeah, I'm completely baffled as to what they were doing with this.  Not sure why they didn't have EC3 win it Sunday, and as much as I like Eddie I sense this will be a fluke win at best.  But given the rest of the spoilers some of this stuff seems awfully strange.  I guess we'll see how it plays out.

It's not like they haven't done it before though. Angle retained against Roode at BFG after a really excellent build and then dropped it to Storm on the next Impact. From a creative perspective it sort of worked out long term in that instance to be fair.

Couldn't the argument be made that the earlier challenger wore down the champ enough to make him easier to beat for the follow-up opponent  (in which case all three is the scenario retain some semblance of heat)?

Really good show to follow Bound for Glory. Thought most everything progressed nicely and flowed well throughout the show. I think my biggest problem with the title change is the fact that Edwards was on a 3 match losing streak including losing clean in 5 minutes to DJ Z just last week. It was a one lucky shot kind of win but still felt like it should take much more to put Lashley down after his dominant reign. Good build throughout the night with Lashley bringing awesome mic work as usual but a rather short match. Felt like there was still a lot of potential matches for Lashley's reign to continue. I do like Edwards and hope this turns out well. Hated how quick the show had to end and cut away from Edwards big moment/celebration though.

Digging the addition of Cody a lot so far. the X Division guys looked good in Team X Gold. Wolf Creek Cage match was fun until PopTV died for the finish. Solid Fact of Life segment with EC3 & Drake as well.

It was an enjoyable episode.  I got a huge kick out of the fact that of all times for Hurricane Matthew to mess with the signal it only did it during the Hardy cage match.  Going to need to check the second half on their Youtube channel.  Eddie looked better in the title match than I expected so I'm interested to see how that plays out.  The stuff with Maria and Allie is also really well-done, given these type of stories I sense where it's going but so far it's great stuff.

Was that when Roode was suppose to win but Hogan in some form or another caused it to not happen?

Considering Aron Rex and Baron Dax have very similar names, well done for putting them one on one just once so everyone can realise and get any snark about it out. But that first round should have been a 10-8 to Dax.

Not read any spoilers so I don't know what this X division 6 man thing is leading to, but the concept of 'Rules strictly enforced' is a new and innovative one. Although presumably someone cheats at some point and gets away with it. Don't see any way they can do a trios titles thing with the X guys though, because there's only six warm bodies in the division (Marshe Rockett stealing Spud's spot despite being too big), and all the extra guys they would usually borrow for World X Cups and that are in WWE (or LU?) now.

Was the cage match to promote a TV show on Pop or something? Because it made no sense when they kept talking about an old torture porn movie from a few years ago. If so, they should change the channel name to Creek TV and have TNA be Creek wrestling, buy all the old tapes of Dawson's Creek and air them as the lead-in to Schitt's Creek and Wolf Creek and Battle Creek and Johnathon Creek.

Jonathan Creek airing before/after TNA or Schitt's Creek would make me a bit sad.  It deserves better.

Yes, Pop is now airing the six part Wolf Creek miniseries and they aired the movie after Impact that night. Great idea, Pop actually was airing Dawson's Creek for awhile last year.
