Dolfan in NYC Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 You might been hurt, babe. That ain't no lie! You've seen them all come and go, oh.... Though I think everyone was expecting Page-Swerve in London, we got quite a swerve indeed! As now, Swerve will be trying to find off a Dragon in Wembley! Danielson won the Owen Hart men's tournament and the Hangman will just have to wait. I remember you told me... That it made you believe in "No man, no cry". Maybe that's why.... However, the big news of the week was Mariah May's win and vicious turn on her former friend/mentor/(Settle Down Meme) Toni Storm. She'll have a lot of explaining to do before they face off in London next month! Every little thing I do never seems enough for you. You don't want to lose it again, but I'm not like them... And it's Dynamite 250 week! Imagine that, almost 5 years of Dynamite. So we get some huge matches and AEW's official Twitter accounts won't shut up about it being the 40th anniversary of "Black Friday", so maybe AEW on USA confirmed? Guess we'll see. Here's what's on tap: But I'm not like them.... Baby, when you finally get to love somebody, guess what? It's gonna be me! Stay tuned! I mean, maybe take a pee break during Jericho doing Meta Character #2728, but otherwise... Stay tuned! Don't say Bye bye bye! It's AEW, which (*checks notes*) RULES THE WORLD~! (Boy howdy if this wasn't the easiest one yet.) 2 1
The Natural Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 One of the biggest AEW Dynamite's ever. On paper potentially one of the best as well.

NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I thought for sure Mercedes open challenge would be answered by Jamie Hayter. What a reaction that would get. Fits the story with her having Britt's back. And the match would be a banger. But instead it's the quarterly Nyla match that she has no chance to win. Happy to be getting the double main event matches. They should both be fucking dope. Wonder if Ricochet debuts here in some fashion. 1

My only issue with Hayter in that role is that I feel like she's outgrown it. It'd actually be pretty cool if Mone gets past Britt at All In, and then Hayter shows up at that show to challenge her. 7

Curt McGirt Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 No Mt. Everest? He's gonna wait until wrestling has completely broken his body, isn't he. What's the spread on Okada winning against Swerve so we have Okada/Danielson yet AGAIN? 2

Oh wow, hadn't thought of that, and can't really see the pivot, especially after Ospreay losing to help legitimize Swerve's run, but... if they truly want to start moving some tickets at Wembley again that seems like a hell of an idea. It not only provides a more prestigious and stadium worthy main event, but potentially gives us Hanger v Swerve in the undercard. Edited July 17, 2024 by HarryArchieGus 1
Log Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) Is Swerve/Okada even for either of their belts? I've only seen it called "Champion vs. Champion", but nothing about the belts or a belt being on the line. To expand, the graphics for the Mone/Nyla match say "TBS Championship" and Osprey/MJF says "AEW International Championship". The Swerve/Okada one says "Champion vs. Champion", nothing about either championship. That's why I wonder. Edited July 17, 2024 by Log 2
Go2Sleep Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Everything about it seems like it's non-title, but cutting Swerve's legs off like that would be one of the worst things in AEW history and is completely antithetical to them as a company. Also, while Okada's reputation precedes him, he isn't exactly positioned as a top guy in AEW right now. If Swerve loses, it'll be with lots of Elite interference to set up B&G. And I'll go further with the hot take that the Danielson/Okada matches have been good, but they haven't been that good. I expect Swerve can have an equally fine and much fresher match with Danielson that will benefit him and AEW a lot more in the long run. For Swerve, the big accomplishment isn't the match itself, it's the fans seeing that a billionaire promoter believes in him as a guy that deserves to headline their biggest show. Without that, he'll always be second tier, and he deserves way better. 3
tbarrie Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I'm confident Swerve vs Okada is non-title. If the title or titles were on the line they'd have said so. 1

Yeah, you don't bring Hayter back to job to Mone. That would be like wearing nice clothes to McDonald's. 7 hours ago, The Natural said: Darby Allin says he’s medically cleared and ready to make his AEW return at Dynamite 250. For Darby, being "medically cleared" just means able to walk and not actively bleeding from anywhere important. Edited July 17, 2024 by Technico Support 3
JLowe Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I’m really interested in the Mariah May segment. It’s my favorite storyline they’ve had for a while, possibly as long as I’ve been watching. I’m looking even more forward to Toni’s reaction (I’m only broadly familiar with the movies the angle is based on). Like, she was not really being straight and fair with Mariah early on, but grew to appreciate her, maybe even beyond Mariah as cosplay Toni. Will she be heartbroken or furious (or both). It’s an opportunity for screen-chewing pathos and I know she will fully lean into it. 3 1
Curt McGirt Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I've got a third idea for Okada/Swerve... Spoiler Dusty Finish! 1 1
Technico Support Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I can’t get over MJF’s 1.5-2” soles that he sneakily blends into his black boots. Once you notice them, it’s all you can look at. 5 1
Cobra Commander Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Things I Remember from this week's edition of AEW Dynamite: A long MJF/Ospreay match that didn't drag ass. Fun finish that seemed like it was gonna be a time limit draw but wasn't. Chris Jericho gets the segment after this match, cites Little Rock crime stats (the arena is in North Little Rock, a suburb), and then we got Murder Grandpa Mone beats Nyla. The Lockjaw thing was a fun spot. Then we got some fighting. Mariah May gets whatted by Arkansas people unsure of her accent Main event screw job for Swerve vs Okada, followed by a huge brawl because next week is Blood and Guts. Also Darby drops from the roof. 3
The Natural Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 MJF vs. Will Ospreay was a MOTYC. When the match was announced I never thought it would go 59:58. Time flew by for me. 2
The Natural Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 (edited) The three longest AEW matches ever: 3. MJF vs. Will Ospreay. AEW Dynamite 250, 17th July 2024. 59:58. 2. Nineteen Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Kind of figured Swerve and Okada weren't going to have an actual finish but was fun while it lasted Around the 40 minute mark of Max/Ospreay I was telling myself "okay, this is going 60" but having the last minute finish was a great surprise. This sets up a few things for Wembley, either a rematch or Max vs. Garcia. If it is Max. vs. Garcia wondering where that leaves Will. Glad we're finally getting Suzuki vs. Jericho but was hoping that would be at All In. The King deserves a Wembley sized KAZE NI NARE~ Okada's crush on Mercedes is so great 5
Craig H Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 That opener fucking ruled and I’m torn on if it’s better than Hangman vs AmDrag’s draw. Hell of a finish though. Surprised they pulled that off. And I said this in the Discord chat, but I’ll just repeat it here - Okada is so fucking good (duh) and smooth. He made a mid to late 90s American style of wrestling look great. One of my friends sent me a message that if Orton gave it 100% his whole career then he’d be in the same conversation with Okada. I kinda agree. Each do simple stuff so incredibly well. Not going to lie, I was pretty scared for Darby’s entrance, but it also gave me goosebumps. Love Tony bringing up the history between Darby and Swerve and if they can coexist on the same team, which parallels nicely with Okada and Hangman being on the same team. 4
JLowe Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Opener flew by, at one point I looked at my phone thinking it had been a little over 30 minutes and it said it was 8:52, so over 40 at that point. And then totally shocked at the ending, quite unexpected. I guess it makes more sense for Ospreay to chase revenge and triumph at Wembley. The brawl in the stands was fantastic and the little kid punching MJF was hilarious but they should never ever do that bit again. The rest of the show kinda paled in comparison. I tuned out most of the Learning Tree promo and while I love Suzuki it was a bit of a letdown. Mone-Nyla was ok, nothing special. Some funny moments from Nyla but the outcome was never in doubt and at times it moved at half speed. I can’t believe I didn’t see the obvious Mariah as Timeless. Fuck that crowd, every time I hear crowds doing the “what thing” I want to slap them all. Nice job from Mariah dealing with that nonsense. Figured the main event would end with it getting thrown out, it was going pretty well until then, very fluid. I think everyone knew it would be Darby but the dropping from the rafters was a nice surprise even if in retrospect it was obvious. I am very skeptical of Acclaimed in a Blood and Guts match, so we shall see. Darby was going pretty hard at Perry, wonder if things will get stiff and chippy next week. 6
