Flair: heel Piper: face (for now) Bischoff: face. Top of the food chain: ???? From what I've read, it gets even more confusing really soon.

Bischoff was a babyface? Wow.
It appears that shortly after the nWo factions reunited, the Wolfpac (this time with Hogan) went face while the black & white job squad stayed heel.I know Nash, despite dedicating his title win to Hogan, somehow turns heel to feud with him soon.

Great American Bash '99 6/14-From Baltimore-The No Limit Soldiers arrive and Curt Hennig promptly sucks up to Master P. P signs a CD who Curt, who immediately smashes it. The NLS make weird noises in response.-Intro video centers around the Nash/Savage feud which features Nash covering Savage in shit, and the infamous "hummer" angle, with Nash stupidly being lured into a limo by Macho Pimp's harem before Savage drives it into position so it can be rammed by the hummer.-Hosts are Tony, Bobby, & Tenay-The crew talk about the main event, & the arrival of the NLS.-A video runs down the card and the various angles heading into it.-Match 1: Brian Knobbs (w/Jimmy Hart) VS Hak (w/Chastity) [Kendo Stick Match]-When I think "hardcore" I think "My Sharona". Knobbs says it's his wife's birthday and that he promised her he would destroy Hak. Knobbs wants to get rid of the "toys" and have a taped fist match instead. Hak can't decide whether to go for it, and Knobbs "swerves" (the crew's word) him by promptly cracking him from behind with a garbage can. Knobbs bashes Hak with the can and the lid, stopping to give him a Pit Stop. A chair gets tossed in the ring, and Hak uses it to turn the tide.Hak gets a ladder from underneath the ring, and throws it right onto Knobbs' back. They trade weapon shots for a bit. Sandman misses a swanton and crashes onto the ladder. Jimmy holds a chair for Knobbs to send Hak into, but Hak reverses, then finishes with a kendo stick to the head. Not much here.-Hugh Morrus comes out to help Knobbs, and a heel beatdown follows.-Buff tells President Piper he's got his back tonight. Piper doesn't seem to care that much.-Match 2: Mikey Whipwreck VS Van Hammer-Mikey is a face now. Mikey tries bulling up to Hammer, and it doesn't work out well for him. Hammer takes a couple armdrags, then dominates with power moves. Despite being decent, the crowd couldn't care less, and the match quickly overstays its welcome. Hammer hits an impressive delayed superplex, which gets some crowd appreciation.Hammer doesn't help matters by slapping on an abdominal stretch. Hammer gets caught cheating, allowing Mikey to hit a hiptoss, but Hammer quickly regains control. Hammer grabs Mikey, climbs the ring steps, then drops Mikey on the guardrail. Mikey fights back and hits a slingshot guillotine legdrop, followed by a slingshot dive, which Hammer doesn't catch him properly on.Mikey gets a cross-body off the top for two, but gets caught and dumped on a second attempt, and Hammer finally finishes with a cobra clutch slam. Decent enough big man vs little man match, but would have been a lot better if it was cut in half.-Match 3: Disco Inferno VS Buff Bagwell-Disco still has some sort of association with the Wolfpac, but uses his own music. Disco hits a swinging neckbreaker, then dances as Buff takes a powder. Buff comes back with one of his own, and poses. Buff is pretty over here, so there's a good amount of heat, even though they're not doing anything special. Buff hits a back elbow and calls for the Blockbuster, but Disco bails. Buff mocks Disco's dancing and flips him off, drawing a big pop.Disco hits a hot shot and a clothesline to take control. Tony congratulates all the high school graduates across the country, while Heenan tells the drop-outs to prepare for a career in fast food. Buff makes a comeback and again goes for the Blockbuster, but Disco crashes into the ropes, which sends Buff outside. Disco follows, and hits the Last Dance (stunner). Buff gets back in the ring at nine.Disco goes for the Macarena Driver, but Buff backdrops out of it. Buff hits a series of punches. Buff calls for the Blockbuster again, Disco drops down to avoid it, but gets up right where he was before, and Buff hits a sloppy Blockbuster for the win. The heat was there and the psychology was there with Disco working the neck and avoiding the Blockbuster that had beaten him on Nitro, but there was something missing.-A video recaps the rap/country feud. I love that Minnesotan Curt Hennig is a "West Texas Redneck".-DJ Ran gets all up in my area. He sucks up to the crowd by asking for Orioles' fans, and gets booed. The NLS get their own entrance to sit down at ringside for the next match.-Match 4: Curt Hennig & Bobby Duncum Jr. VS Konnan & Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr.-The Rednecks debut "Rap is Crap" as their entrance music here. Tenay actually says he'd pick rap over country. Rey & Konnan wear gas masks for their entrance. It was much cooler when Akira Hokuto did it. Tenay talks about Master P earning $60 million and running the No Limit brand. Good for him to get the money quick, because (IIRC) the whole No Limit thing died pretty quickly. The faces clean house right off the bad, but soon they settle into tag formula, with Rey as the FIP.Hennig pays homage to the recently-deceased Rick Rude with a hip swivel. Not much else happens. Konnan gets the tag, but doesn't do much with it. Barry Windham gets involved. Master P's bodyguard takes advantage of the distraction and punches Duncum out, allowing Rey to hit a slingshot legdrop for the pin.-The NLS try to get involved in the fight, but only end up getting kicked out, allowing a 3-on-2 beatdown on Konnan & Rey.-Match 5: The Cat (w/Sonny Onoo) VS Scott Norton-Horace comes out for some reason, pissed that Cat hit him with a crowbar on Thunder. This leads to a shitty "war of words" (although Cat threatening to go to his car, get his gi, and whoop everyone in the crowd was pretty funny) and the match turns into...-Match 5: The Cat (w/Sonny Onoo) VS Horace Hogan-The Cat whoops on Horace for a while. Horace gets a little offense in. Cat goes back on offense, then Horace hits a splash for two. The crew pick a bad time to say this match is "brutal" (and Heenan follows up with "all of The Cat's matches are brutal"). Sonny hands Cat a loaded slipper, and he KO's Horace for the merciful pin. Cat does him James Brown gimmick afterwards. This was...not good. Where the fuck was Norton?-Hype video for Piper/Flair focuses more on the split of the Horsemen.-Match 6 for the Presidency of WCW: Ric Flair (w/Arn Anderson & Asya) VS Roddy Piper-Flair is still announced as being president while the crew clarifies that what Bischoff did at the last PPV meant nothing. Piper hammers Flair to start. Flair takes a powder, but that doesn't help matters. Flair finally gets a sneaky low blow to turn the tide. Arn gets involved the first chance he gets, and sends Piper back in the ring when he gets caught.Piper pulls Flair's tights down trying to get a schoolboy, and the crowd pops for Flair's ass. I'll never understand that. Piper fights off AA and gets a sunset flip for two. Piper gets the sleeper, but Flair escapes. AA grabs Piper's leg, causing a distraction and allowing Flair to get an object from his tights and KO Piper. Flair takes too long to make the cover, so it only gets two. Flair gets the figure 4, and some help from Arn, which brings out Buff. Buff stupidly attacks Flair, drawing a DQ and handing Flair the Presidency. This was alright for what it was.-Piper promptly turns on Buff, and a 3-on-1 beatdown ensues, including Flair & Arn holding Buff so Piper can whip him without them talking or even making eye contact with Piper. I can buy Piper snapping because Buff cost him the Presidency, I don't buy "the establishment sticks together" as was posited by the crew first before they switched to the obvious explanation.-DJ Ran asks the crowd about Piper, and they boo, showing the heel turn worked. Ran asks the crowd if they think Nash is going to kick Macho's ass, and they respond that they do. Tony wonders why Ran can curse and they can't.-Video recaps the Sting/Rick Steiner feud.-Match 7: Television Champion Rick Steiner VS Sting [Falls Count Anywhere]-FCA is added at the last moment. Sting gets the early jump, but it doesn't last long. Sting fights back, and they take it to the floor. Rick pulls back a section of the floor mats, and hits a really safe piledriver on the floor for two. Back in the ring, Rick doesn't do a whole lot with his control segment. Sting hits a low blow and a couple Vader Bombs before pulling Rick to the center and hitting a big splash off the top for two.Rick goes low, and regains control. That doesn't last long, as Sting hits a couple Stinger Splashes and gets the Deathlock, but Rick gets the ropes (rope breaks in a falls count anywhere match?). They head down the aisle, and Sting hits a suplex on the ramp before sending Rick into the WCW.Com location, where Jericho is apparently hanging out waiting for his contract to expire. They head out back where Tank Abbott attacks Sting, before The Steiners unleash dogs on Sting. The way it's edited with security running to save Sting without any of the mauling being on camera is hilarious. The Steiners bring Mickie Jay back to the ring and intimidate him into declaring Rick the winner as Scott claims Rick pinned Sting. The match sucked. I like the idea of the finish, but the execution was laughably bad.-A video recaps the world tag title situation with the DDP/Bigelow winning the titles, then Benoit/Saturn winning the titles after Flair abandons Benoit. Kanyon then reveals himself to be in cahoots with Bigelow & Page, creating the Jersey Triad.-Match 8 for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: Chris Benoit & Perry Saturn [c] VS DDP & Kanyon (w/Bam Bam Bigelow)-The champs have Rey's old music. Tenay explains that the titles were returned to the Triad, but they then lost them to Benoit & Saturn again on Thunder. The champs control the first couple minutes, but they then settle into tag formula with Benoit as the FIP. Saturn gets the hot tag and cleans house, but gets caught with an Electric Chair into a faceplant by Kanyon, and now it's Saturn's turn to play FIP.Benoit gets the hot tag, and the match breaks down. He gets the rolling Germans on Kanyon, but DDP saves. Benoit gets a Dragon Suplex on Kanyon, and everyone is confused as DDP is supposed to save Kanyon again, but Saturn cuts him off, and Kanyon just kicks out. Benoit hits Kanyon with the swan dive headbutt, but as Saturn goes off the top, DDP catches him with a Diamond Cutter. Malenko runs out to help his buddies, but that only distracts the ref, and allows Bigelow to get involved, and he & DDP hit a double team elevated Diamond Cutter on Benoit, then DDP puts Kanyon on top for the pin. They take Malenko out with it too. Decent enough tag formula, but there was a very surprising lack of heat for any of it.-Match 9 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Kevin Nash [c] VS Randy Savage (w/The Ladies)-Savage controls the early going, mostly with punches. Nash goes low, so Madusa distracts the ref, allowing Miss Madness to hit a missile dropkick, but Nash actually bumps off of. Savage hits the elbow...for two. Nash comes back with Snake Eyes and a big boot, then hits the Jackknife, but the girls attack Nash, somehow not drawing a DQ. Nash takes care of them, then Sid Vicious makes his return to WCW, dropping Nash and finally getting the DQ. Not much to this one.-Sid powerbombs Nash, and Tony thinks it was Sid who drove the Hummer. Sid helps Savage to the back.-FINAL THOUGHTS: The in-ring action is watchable, with nothing being great or really bad. There aren't any real "WTF?" booking decisions. The crowd isn't loud, but they're not totally silent either. It's just a really bland show.-NEXT EVENT: Bash at the Beach '99

Master P's bodyguard was named Swole. Think he had a match with the filthy Animals vs the West Texas Rednecks. I still randomly bust out into "Rap is Crap" to this day.

It's crazy how I have very little memories of WWF from around this time but know shitty WCW angles by heart.

Wasn't the name "Curt Hennig and the West Texas Rednecks" as in, only the other two were from West Texas?  At least, that's the way I always took it, but maybe I was too familiar.

Also, I vaguely recall hearing that a local Atlanta country radio station actually put Rap is Crap into the on-air rotation.

If you like low blows, this show is for you...

Bash at the Beach '99 7/11-From Ft. Lauderdale-Opening video focuses on Nash & Sting VS Savage & Sid.-DJ Ran kisses up to the fans.-Hosts are Tony & Bobby, no Tenay.-Tony & Bobby talk about the main event. How is Sting supposed to pin Nash if this is a tag match? Why not just make it a 4-way? Tenay is in THE JUNKYARD. Judge Mills Lane is here for Piper/Bagwell.-Hype video for Cat/Disco, which started when Cat attacked Disco during a dance contest.-Match 1: The Cat (w/Sonny Onoo) VS Disco Inferno-Tony says this was originally meant to have a "loser can't dance" stip, but both guys protested, so it was dropped. More like WCW realized if either guy lost, they no longer have a gimmick or any personality. Cat calls for another dance contest, then threatens to whoop  everybody if they don't vote for him. Disco wins again, and this time sees Cat's cheap shot attempt coming. Disco isn't in Wolfpac colors, so I'm guessing he's not aligned with them for the moment.Cat takes a powder, then says he has to call his momma and register his hands as weapons. Disco avoids some strikes, and goes on the offensive, getting two off a clothesline. Cat scores with a couple kicks to take control. Cat sends Disco outside, where Sonny gets some kicks in. Cat goes outside, but Disco reverses a whip and sends Cat into the guardrail. Back in, Cat goes low to change the momentum. When did a low blow become a legal move in WCW? Cat hits a nice kick, but stops to pose, so that only gets two.Disco comes back, and hits a second rope elbow for two, followed by a Russian leg sweep for another two count. Cat scores with a superkick for two, avoids a Last Dance, and hits another superkick for two. Cat goes for the red slipper of death, but Disco counters and hits Cat with the slipper for two, as Sonny had the ref. Disco hits Sonny with the Last Dance, but Cat gets the slipper and kicks Disco in the head for the win. Good opener. Disco was pretty over as a babyface and Cat finally found his niche with his wrestling James Brown gimmick.-Mark Madden interviews Mills Lane for WCW.Com.-Video shows Van Hammer cheating to beat Disco, then suddenly he's getting double-teamed by Hugh Morrus & Jimmy Hart and about to be put through a table until Flair comes out to ban hardcore matches "in the arena" (so the Junkyard Match is fine). Hammer turns the tide, and puts Morrus through the table. Hammer then asks Flair for a title shot, and he's given a TV title match against Rick Steiner, in which the Flair administration (which now includes Piper) thinks Hammer is going to get killed.-Match 2 for the Television Championship: Rick Steiner [c] VS Van Hammer-The crowd treats Rick like a babyface, which doesn't help my confusion as to whether Hammer is supposed to be a heel or face here. Rick clubs Hammer down, but Hammer comes back with a clothesline and a big boot to send Rick outside. Rick comes right back in, but Hammer connects with a suplex for one. Rick fires back and rakes at Hammer's face. Rick takes Hammer outside and peels back the mats before delivering a DDT on the floor. Rick throws Mickie Jay aside and continues his assault until Hammer gets a low blow to turn the tide.Hammer's advantage is short-lived as Rick fights out of the corner, and hits an elbowdrop for two. Rick sends Hammer outside. Hammer grabs Dave Penzer's chair and hits Rick in the face, but not getting DQ'd. Rick comes back with a couple blatant low blows (including a bite in that general vicinity), and finishes with the flying bulldog. This was surprisingly good, aside from Mickie Jay apparently deciding on his own that this was no-DQ.-Mike Tenay is at THE JUNKYARD with a ref and a trophy. Tenay has no idea who is in this thing other than Hak (who issued the challenge) and Hugh Morrus. Whoever gets on Tenay's side of the fence wins the trophy labeled "Hardcore Champion".-Video shows Flair literally handing the U.S. title to David, apparently in an attempt to get David laid.-Match 3 for the United States Championship: David Flair [c] (w/Torrie Wilson, Ric Flair, Asya, Charles Robinson, & Arn Anderson) VS Dean Malenko-Malenko destroys David as Tony talks about what a joke David is. Malenko gets the Cloverleaf, but Arn takes out the ref. The whol entourage (save Torrie) get involved. Malenko gets the Cloverleaf on Asya as Little Naitch puts the ref's shirt on. Ric KO's Malenko with the title belt, then puts David on top for the pin. This was what is was.-A video recaps the Country VS Rap feud, and includes the whole video for "Rap is Crap".-Match 4: The West Texas Rednecks (Curt Hennig, Barry Windham, Kendall Windham, & Bobby Duncam Jr.) VS The No Limit Soldiers (Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr., Konnan, Brad Armstrong, & Swoll) [Elimination Match]-Man Brad Armstrong sticks out like a sore thumb on the NLS side. Barry & Rey start. Barry uses his size early, but Rey makes a quick comeback and hits a split-legged moonsault for two. Curt gets in and gets some shots in on Rey, who quickly tags Armstrong. Brad out-wrestles Curt, so Curt tags Duncum. Armstrong hits a gut shot on Duncum, then tags in Swoll. Duncum absorbs a couple shots, then turns the tide, getting two off an elbowdrop before tagging in Kendall.Swoll fires up on Kendall, but takes a back kick to the nuts. Swoll tags Rey, who manages to take Kendall out over the top with a rana, taking Duncum down with them. Konnan & Curt get in, and the match breaks down as Konnan & Rey work Curt & Duncum over. Barry sneaks in with a cheap shot on Konnan, and somehow it all ends up with Duncum VS Swoll. Rey hits a slingshot legdrop on Duncum, and Swoll pins him for the first elimination.Duncum gets jumped by the NLS corner men, and Curt rushes in to help him. Back in the ring, Barry works Konnan over, hitting a suplex for two before tagging in Curt. Armstrong gets in, and is promptly hit with the HennigPlex and eliminated.Kendall & Konnan get in, and it's all Kendall until he misses a second rope kneedrop. Konnan hits a rolling clothesline followed by an X-Factor, but Barry makes the save. That doesn't matter much, as Rey hits a springboard dropkick to the back of Kendall, sending him into a sloppy small package from Konnan for the pin.Barry works Konnan over as the NLS corner men attack Kendall. Barry & Konnan go outside, and Barry gets carried away by the white NLS corner man, while Konnan follows for no apparent reason, getting them both counted out.Swoll works Hennig over, then Barry, the white NLS guy (apparentky called Chase), and Konnan come back, just to leave again. Curt gets jumped by the other NLS corner man (4X4), leading to Swoll tagging Rey, then putting Rey on his shoulders for a splash and the final pin. Aside from Konnan being an idiot, this was a pretty fun match. Good show so far.-Tony & Bobby talk about the main event for a moment, before switching over to the Junkyard Invitational.-A video of Hak issuing the challenge airs.-Match 5 for the Hardcore Championship Trophy [Junkyard Match]-There's so much happening it's hard to describe it. Public Enemy make their return to WCW by tipping a car over. I see Knobbs, La Parka, Jerry Flynn, & Silver King. Roadblock is out there too. Regal works on Horace as Finlay uses a bumper as a weapon. Dave Taylor uses a trash can and Hugh Morrus is there. Hak fights with Mikey Whipwreck for a moment. Jimmy Hart (wearing a hard hat) stands aside and cheers on Morrus. It's just a bunch of random people doing a bunch of random shit to fill time, resembling a riot more than any kind of wrestling match. There's a Ciclope sighting as well. Knobbs hits a low blow, since apparently we can't have a match without on one this show. The overhead shots make this look a lot cooler than it is. Rocco Rock & Horace make their way to the exit. Rocco almost gets over the fence, but Horace cuts him off.Hak puts Finlay in the trunk of a car. Finlay gets out before a forklift comes by to lift it and put it in a smasher. Finlay has had enough of this shit, and escapes as a car explodes for no particular reason. This was...I don't even know what to say about it. I've read a lot of guys got hurt during this, and I can't say I'm surprised.-A video recaps the Benoit & Saturn VS Jersey Triad feud, and an eight-man tag with DDP, Kanyon, Flair, & Piper VS Benoit, Saturn, Malenko, & Bagwell. Bagwell pins Flair with the Blockbuster. Flair then makes the tag title match for this show.-Match 6 for the World Tag Team Championship: DDP & Bam Bam Bigelow [c] (w/Kanyon) VS Chris Benoit & Perry Saturn-The Triad get to use the Freebird rules for their title defenses. DDP & Saturn start it out with a slug fest, and Saturn wins that. Tags are made on both ends, and Benoit takes over on Bam Bam. Kanyon gets in the ring and it's allowed, effectively making this a 3-on-2 handicap match. The challengers still manage to dominate for the most part for quite a while. After Benoit & Saturn work on Kanyon for a while, DDP gets involved again with a cheap shot on Saturn, leading to Saturn playing FIP.Saturn catches Kanyon with a super overhead belly-to-belly throw, and makes the hot tag to Benoit. Benoit cleans house until DDP catches him with a flying clothesline. DDP does his old babyface guardrail hop as a celebration and to taunt the crowd. Benoit plays FIP as the crowd starts to get really into this. Benoit finally avoids a Bam Bam moonsault and makes the hot tag to Saturn, who takes his turn to clean house.Benoit & Saturn hit Bam Bam with a big splash/swandive heabutt combo, but DDP leaps off the top and nails Benoit at two. Saturn goes for the DVD on DDP, but Kanyon throws powder in Saturn's eyes as the ref gets bumped. DDP, apparently blinded too, hits Kanyon with a Cutter. Benoit covers, and Bam Bam puts Kanyon's foot on the ropes. GREAT false finish there. Benoit gets a bridged German on DDP for two. The ref gets bumped again and DDP cracks Benoit with a garbage bin. He accidentally hits Kanyon, but Bam Bam puts Saturn in Hart Attack position, and DDP hits Saturn with the Diamond Cutter for the win. Oh man, this was going along good as a solid tag formula match, but got GREAT over the last couple minutes. Definitely my WCW PPV MOTY for 1999 so far. Well worth checking out if you haven't seen it.-A video hypes Bagwell/Piper.-Match 7: Roddy Piper (w/Ric Flair) VS Buff Bagwell [boxing Match w/Guest Referee Judge Mills Lane]-Buffer does the intros. Bagwell intro's his corner woman...his mom. Mom has her own air-brushed t-shirt.FIRST ROUND: They do a pretty shitty pro wrestling version of a boxing match (although I'm not sure there is a not-shitty way to do it). Piper controls until the last 20 seconds. In between rounds, Flair sprays something on Piper's gloves.SECOND ROUND: The substance blinds Bagwell right away on the first jab. Judy tries to wipe it out of Buff's eyes...using a dry sponge. Bagwell again fires back just before the round ends.Flair denies putting anything on Piper's gloves.THIRD ROUND: Piper attacks before the bell, so Judy bites his ear and puts a bucket on his head. Buff hits the Blockbuster (?) FOR THE PIN?! What the fuck was THAT? Nevermind that pro wrestling boxing matches sucks, since when do you get to use a wrestling move in a boxing match, and when do pins count in boxing matches? Beside that stupidity, what is Buff winning this because of his mom supposed to do for him?-A video recaps everything that led to the main event. This includes Nash defending his world title against David Flair in a lumberjack match, getting a hold of David's TASER OF DOOM and holding everyone off. Yet another fake Sting helps Sid & Savage destroy Nash on Nitro.-Match 8 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Kevin Nash [c] & Sting VS Randy Savage & Sid Vicious (w/Madusa & Mona)-Gorgeous George, sporting an obviously fake black eye, goes to Nash's corner. Sting works Savage over for a bit. Sid gets in and gets a little offense in before Sting takes over on him too. Sid does manage to turn the tide, and Sting plays FIP. This is briefly interrupted so Nash can remind everyone he's in this match, then it settles back into Sting taking a beating, and not a particularly interesting one at that.Nash gets another hot tag and almost gets Sid in powerbomb position, but gets cut off by Savage. Mona & Madusa get involved, but get beat up by Sting. Sting hits a Stinger Splash on Savage, which sends Savage into Nash, then is immediately hit with a massive chokeslam. The crowd chants for Goldberg during all of this. Nash gets Savage set for the Jackknife, but George turns on him (duh) with a low blow (*sigh*). Sid slams Nash, and Savage wins the title with the big elbow to no reaction.-Team Madness celebrates as the show ends.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This was a much better show than I was expecting. The undercard, for the most part, is pretty good, with the glaring exception of the Junkyard Invitational. The tag title match is really great, especially during the final stretch. The last two matches suck because of the fucked up rules and dumb booking. From what I undertstand, Savage drops the belt to Hogan in short order, then Nash turns heel to feud with Hogan. Fantastic.-NEXT EVENT: Road Wild '99

IIRC, Savage dropped the belt the next night on Nitro to Hogan, although maybe it wasn't for another week.

Side note on Savage:  He held 6 world titles, and every single one of them he dropped to either Hogan or Flair.

Yep. Both of Savage's last 2 WCW title runs actually were done that way, win on PPV and drop the next night to Hogan.

he's also never scored a pinfall on Hogan. Won a few times by count out in the late 80s, but that's the closest he's ever been to beating the Hulkster.

Was it ever explained what the deal with Buff Bagwell and his mother was?  Like, was it a rib about how much of a mama's boy he is or what?  It just seemed so out of nowhere even for later WCW.

Yeah, Judy Bagwell was Buff's agent for most of his career (at least through the short WWE run) and was regarded as being way too hands on.  It earned Bagwell a "Mama's Boy" reputation in the locker rooms and gave Nash and company the idea to write her into storyline.

Besides the "calling in sick" thing, there's a hilarious story about Judy Bagwell pestering JR to pay for limo service for Buff (to shows).  Apparently, Buff saw the Giant and DDP arrive to a WWE show in a limo.  They told him the company paid for it and Buff decided he wanted he wanted one too.  Of course, the whole thing was a rib.  DDP and Giant paid for the limo themselves to save themselves the hassle of parking their rental cars at the arena, but Buff didn't know that and proceeded to bury himself with JR..

Road Wild '99 8/14-From Sturgis-Opening video focuses on Hogan/Nash.-Hosts are Tony, Bobby, & Tenay-The crew talk about the main event, and Hogan's return to the red-and-yellow. Tony then mentions Goldberg/Rick Steiner, Sid/Sting, & Savage/Rodman.-A video recaps the Rey/Kidman/Eddie VS Vampiro/ICP. So the NLS are gone, Eddie is a face, and the ICP are supposed to be taken seriously as wrestlers. OK then.-Match 1: The Deadpool [Vampiro & ICP] (w/Raven) VS Eddie Guerrero, Kidman, & Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr.-The faces clean house early, leading to a BK Bomb on Vampiro, then a tag to Eddie, who slingshots in with a hilo. Vampiro hits a nice kick, and Eddie plays FIP for a while. The ICP smartly stick with wrestling 101 moves while they're in there. Eddie catches Shaggy with a superplex, and make the hot tag to Rey, who hits a quebrada on J for two. Raven pulls Rey out, and sends him into the steps. Vampiro follows up with the Nail in the Coffin on the platform. Vampiro sends Rey back in the ring, and J hits a side slam for two.Rey plays FIP for a while too. Rey finally hits a split-legged moonsault on Shaggy and makes the hot tag to Kidman. The match breaks down, and Vampiro accidentally kicks Shaggy, leading to a SSP from Kidman (right on poor Shaggy's head) for the pin. Pretty good tag formula opener. The ICP ended up looking more competent than Kidman when it was over.-A video previews the tag title match between the reformed Harlem Heat VS The Jersey Triad.-Match 2 for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: Bam Bam Bigelow & Kanyon [c] VS Harlem Heat-No DDP, since he has a U.S. title match against Benoit later on. Tony explains that Dusty now leads the WCW Championship Committee, and has abolished the "Freebird Rule". Kanyon insults the crowd to try to make sure Harlem Heat are treated as the faces here. The champs get the early jump, but HH turn it around, and there's some awkwardness as it takes BBB a moment to get in position for a Harlem Side Kick. The match settles down, but the Heat keep control. Just when it looks like Booker is going to start playing FIP, he hits Kanyon with a big clothesline, and Kanyon begs off before tagging Bam Bam, and Booker tags Stevie. After a bit, it's Stevie who plays FIP. Booker gets in, and has Kanyon set for the axe kick, but Bam Bam low-bridges him to cut that off. Booker catches Kanyon climbing the ropes and throws him off the top, and tags are made on both ends. DDP rushes out to get involved but it backfires, and Booker hits a missile dropkick on Bam Bam, and Stevie pins him to give the Heat their 8th tag title. This wasn't particularly good.-A video shows Saturn & Curt Hennig have an issue, leading to another six man tag.-Match 3: Curt Hennig, Barry Windham, & Bobby Duncam Jr. (w/Kendall Windham) VS Saturn, Dean Malenko, & Perry Saturn-Who put this card together? The faces, along with Benoit, have formed The Revolution. The Revolution control the early going until Shane gets caught in the Rednecks' corner. Shane catches Duncam with a powerslam, then tags Saturn. Windham gets in but gets caught with a couple suplexes. Kendall interferes, hitting Saturn in the back with a cow bell. Saturn manages to hit a release German on Duncum, and tags Malenko.Douglas gets in and goes for the Pittsburgh Plunge, but Hennig cuts that off. Douglas plays FIP. The Rednecks don't do anything special with the heat segment. Saturn gets the hot tag, and the match breaks Cloverleaf on Barry, but Kendall sneaks in and cracks Malenko with the cow bell. Douglas takes care of Kendall, and Saturn finishes Duncum with the DVD. The work was solid, but unexciting. Three straight tag matches to start a show is too much.-A video previews Cat/Buff, including another bad segment where Buff imitates his opponent.-Match 4: The Cat (w/Sonny Onoo) VS Buff Bagwell-Cat has confederate flag gloves on. Cute bit as Buff tries to talk, but Cat keeps stealing the mic, and the crowd keeps him from talking by revving up their bikes and drowning him out.Cat hits a couple slams and taunts the crowd, who respond with a big "Pussy Cat" chant. Buff gets a little offense in, so Cat stalls. Cat goes for the neck. Buff responds with corner punches, but Cat cuts him off at nine with a low blow. Cat takes control, but interference from Sonny backfires, and Buff gets a schoolboy for the pin. Cat beats Buff down afterward. Not sure what this was supposed to do for either guy.-Match 5 for the United States Championship: Chris Benoit [c] VS DDP [No-DQ]-DDP basically says Benoit's mom in a phone-sex operator before Benoit comes out. DDP spends the first couple minutes hitting power moves and taunting the crowd. Benoit gets a couple desperation rollups, but DDP keeps beating the shit out of him. Benoit hits a jawbreaker, but DDP catches Benoit climbing the ropes and puts him in the Tree of Woe. DDP slaps Little Naitch and steals his belt in order to whip Benoit, then choke him. DDP uses an overhead backbreaker to try to hang Benoit, who manages to slide out and finally get his first real offense with the rolling Germans.Benoit goes for the diving headbutt, but Kanyon shoves him off, into a throw from DDP for two. The Revolution are shown watching as Bam Bam gets involved too. They make no move to help. Benoit manages to fight off The Triad by himself, and finish with the diving headbutt. This was an alright (if not logical) move to really put Benoit over, but it wasn't near the matches the two had when DDP was climbing the card and more motivated.-The crew talk about the main event.-Darnell Potter from Cleveland wins a custom bike. Heenan thinks the name Darnell is hilarious for some reason.-A short video previews Sid/Sting.-Match 6: Sid Vicious VS Sting-Sid is in the beginning of his "Millennium Man" run as he tries to better Goldberg's streak. Sting is fresh off winning the Presidency of WCW from Flair, then vacating it. Sid stalls, then is almost immediately hit with a couple Stinger Splashes and a clothesline to the floor once he gets in. Sting takes Sid on a tour of ringside, but once they get back in the ring, Sid avoids a Stinger Splash to turn the tide. Sid works Sting over with basic big man offense.Sting makes a comeback, and does his "accidental low blow" spot. Sid goes up top (!), but get caught and slammed. Sting tries to run the ropes, but Sid trips him. Sting shrugs that off and hits a slam, but a splash meets knees, and Sid gets two off that. Sting tries to fire up, but runs into a big boot. Sid goes up again, but again gets caught, and Sting hits a superplex. Sting hits a couple Stinger Splashes, but a third gets countered into a chokeslam for the pin. The match wasn't much, but that was a pretty slick finish.-A video previews Goldberg/Rick Steiner.-Match 7: Rick Steiner VS Goldberg-Goldberg has his crappy "Mayhem" theme, and it's just not the same. After Goldberg wins an early slug fest, Rick gets Goldberg down and removes his knee brace before wrapping it around his arm and pounding on Goldberg with it. Goldberg shrugs that off, and finishes with the usual. Not bad.-A video recaps the Savage/Rodman feud. Savage says he has "the baddest person in the world" protecting Gorgeous George from Rodman, and said protector is also the driver of the Hummer.-Match 8: Dennis Rodman VS Randy Savage-The entrances take FOREVER. Rodman then asks where "my bitch" is. Savage, of course, responds that Rodman is his bitch, then says he invites the crowd to "fight for sloppy seconds". Rodman actually gets the early jump, and the crew is STUNNED when he executes a Russian Leg Sweep. Rodman drops one ref, and the lapse in concentration allows Macho to make a comeback. Savage welcomes Ross Foreman, the new editor of WCW Magazine to WCW by knocking him out and stealing his camera to hit Rodman with. Savage KO's Mickie Jay, then Scott Dickinson.Savage throws Rodman into the crowd, and they throw him back out. Savage walks Rodman back behind the entrance, but gets caught with a throw. Savage quickly recovers, and puts Rodman in a porta potty before tipping it over. Tony is understandably nauseated by that. They get back in the ring, and Rodman accidentally takes out another ref with a flying clothesline.Rodman gets a sleeper, but Savage counters into a jawbreaker. Gorgeous George comes out and hands Savage a chain. George goes low on Rodman, Savage KO's Rodman with the chain, and Nick Patrick counts the pin. As a match it was nothing. As a specticle it was shockingly watchable, as WCW pulled out the over-booking tricks.-The same video that opened the PPV airs again.-Match 9 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Hulk Hogan [c] VS Kevin Nash [Career Match]-Nash opens with a side headlock, but Hogan counters with a belly-to-back suplex, and Nash takes a powder. Nash takes over, and methodically works Hogan over. Hogan's forehead gets opened up a little bit during the beatdown. Nash hits the Jackknife, and you can figure out what happened after that. Pure Hogan formula, only missing the opening flurry by Hogan.-Hogan celebrates to a big pyro display as the show ends.-FINAL THOUGHTS: Like all the other Road Wilds, this was a pretty bland show, as it seems like everyone just goes through the motions, and the PPV as a minor distraction from their vacation at the biker rally. Not as actively bad as last year's show, but nothing worth watching at all here.-NEXT EVENT: Fall Brawl '99

I don't know how people generally feel about ICP around here, but I actually enjoy them lots of the time. They are decent garbagey/high-spotty type workers and they always at least try really hard. They aren't bad, man.

I am about two-and-a-half years behind this thread in my WCW re-viewing, but man, I am not looking forward to crazy misogynist Randy Savage. He's my favorite wrestler of all-time, and I just hated to see a broken down Savage resort to pushing women around to get heat. I mean, he always had that streak to his character, but it's just too much for me in 1999. Just unenjoyable to watch in all facets.

The trick with 1986 Savage was that his character was a jealous, paranoid dickhead but he never crossed the line into straight up violence. Savage habitually crossing the line at the end of his WCW run was, at best, uncomfortable.

I get what they were going for with the Macho Harem, but it just didn't work. He had neither, respectively, the personal or professional chemistry he had with Elizabeth or Sherri.

Fall Brawl 99 9/12-From Winston-Salem, NC-Opening video focuses on Hogan/Sting, as they are doing a Luger/Tatanka-style angle.-Hosts are Tony, Bobby, & Tenay-The crew talk about the main event, then Benoit defending the U.S. title against Sid.-Match 1: Vampiro & The Insane Clown Posse VS Rey Mysterio Jr., Kidman, & Eddie Guerrero-The crowd is molten to start the show, even though there's a lot of stalling by the heels before the match even starts. Kidman & Shaggy start. Kidman overcomes some jobber offense by Shaggy and after a bit of a struggle, Kidman & Rey hit Doring & Roadkill's Buggeybang. Rey & J get in, and J uses a nice pulling powerbomb out of a corner before adding a catapult and tagging Vampiro. Rey promptly takes over on Vampiro, and hits the Bronco Buster before tagging Kidman. Vampiro tags J, and Kidman hits some rapid punches. J hides behind the ref, then jumps Kidman when Kidman turns his back.J hits a nice DDT and tags Vampiro, who POWERBOMBS KIDMAN. Vampiro hits a nice spinning heel kick off the top, and Rey makes the save. Kidman plays FIP as Tony admits to once having a hairstyle like Vampiro's, without the sides shaved. Rey gets the hot tag, and quickl hits J with a quebrada for two. Vampiro gets a cheap shot in that allows J to clothesline him out over the top, and now it's Rey's turn to play FIP. Eddie finally gets in and hits some STIFF chops on Vampiro.Eddie tries a monkey flip, but Vampiro kinda lands on his feet, then hits a nice spin kick to regain control for his team. Shaggy gets nice air on a top rope leg drop that catches Eddie right on the forehead for two. Vampiro and Shaggy badly botch an assisted Diamond Cutter. The match breaks down, and Eddie hits Vampiro with a MISSILE DROPKICK, leading to a Kidman SSP (with a knee catching Vampiro in the face) for the pin. Aside from a couple botches, this was a pretty strong opener aided greatly by the hot crowd.-Rey appears to be legit injured, and has to be carried to the back by a trainer and his partners.-The Revolution are with the .com guys, and Saturn is interested in getting pics of the Nitro Girls before guaranteeing a clean sweep of their matches tonight.-Lenny Lane, doing his gay gimmick with Lodi, upsets Rey for the Cruiserweight title, and starts a feud with Kaz Hayashi.-Match 2 for the Cruiserweight Championship: Lenny [c] (w/Lodi) VS Kaz Hayashi-Kaz isn't thrilled when Lenny gets a go-behind. Lenny skips around, then gets an arm breaker, which Kaz escapes by repeatedly punching Lenny in the ass. Kaz adds several kicks to the ass, causing Lenny to bail and jump into Lodi's arms. Kaz takes the opportunity to hit a nice dive. Lenny blocks a rollup, and hits a nice wheelbarrow faceplant. Lenny hits a gutwrench sit-out powerbomb for two. Kaz sends Lenny outside, then hits another dive.Lodi gets involved as Lenny distracts the ref. Kaz blocks another powerbomb and turns it into a rana ---> rollup for two. Lenny comes back with a bulldog for two. Kaz avoids a charges, and hits a slingshot bulldog for two. Kaz sets Lenny up top, and after some fighting, Kaz hits a running Liger bomb for two, as Lodi puts Lenny's foot on the rope. Kaz hits another rana for two. Lenny hits a jaw breaker. Lodi tries to get involved, but it backfires, and Kaz gets a victory roll for two. Kaz goes up, but Lodi interferes, leading a schoolboy by Lenny for two. Lenny finally hits a Skull Crushing Finale (that not surprisingly looks a lot more vicious than it does when Miz does it) to retain. This got really good when Lenny was able to focus more on wrestling than working the gimmick, and the near-falls and false finishes were very well done. They almost lost the crowd, but were able to get them back.-Mean Gene goes to the ring, and brings out Sting. Sting says he's just about done with Luger and Hogan is A-OK with him.-Match 3: Brian Knobbs & Hugh Morrus (w/Jimmy Hart) VS Shane Douglas & Dean Malenko [No-DQ]-Shane asks Saginaw, Michigan if they are ready for a revolution. That would have been awesome if it was on purpose and they were meant to be heels. The Revolution completely dominate the first couple minutes. Douglas hits Morrus across the back with the ring steps. Knobbs sends Malenko into the guardrail, then chucks at chair at Douglas' face. We then settle into a standard tag match for some reason, and Knobbs give Douglas a Pit Stop, which only serves to piss Douglas off and start his comeback. The Revolution again take control for a few minutes until Douglas goes after Jimmy and gets clobbered. Knobbs goes up top, but takes too much time, and he misses a splash. Malenko cleans house, but gets tripped by Knobbs, leading to the No Laughing Matter...for the pin?! WTF? Match was decent I guess, but damn what a bad booking decision.-A video previews Saturn/Rick Steiner.-Match 4 for the Television Championship: Rick Steiner [c] VS Saturn-Rick controls the early going. Tony notes that Buff Bagwell has not arrived for his match against Berlyn, and that another unnamed wrestler has volunteered to take the match. Saturn makes a comeback, and hits a release German for two. Saturn gets tangled with the ref, and Rick takes the opporunity to kick him in the nuts. Tenay mentions WCW refs and other personel wearing black arm bands in mourning of the recently-deceased Brian Hildebrand. Rick takes Saturn outside, and hits his concrete DDT.Rick hits his own release German for two. Rick applies a lazy single-leg crab, but Saturn makes it to the ropes. He does it again, but then lets go for no reason. Rick hits a couple belly-to-bellys, but stops to jaw at the crowd, allowing Saturn another comeback. Rick cuts that off by countering a leap frog into a powerslam for two. Saturn hits the DVD out of nowhere...for two. Rick counters another DVD, and goes for the flying bulldog, but Saturn sweeps his legs to crotch him. Rick fights off a superplex, and finishes with the flying bulldog. Again the match was decent, but what's with this booking? Rick winning is bad enough, given Saturn is infinitely more over than he is at this point, but Rick winning clean is inexcusable.-Hogan bum rushes Mean Gene to say reiterate that he is doing things the right way again, and if he wanted to stab Sting in the back, he would have done it at the point where it would have meant no match tonight. Hogan even gets mad at Gene for asking questions. Yeah, because the last three years should all be forgotten because you say so asshole.-The crew react to Hogan. Heenan notes that Sting is confident, but Hogan seems worried.-Match 5: Berlyn (w/Bodyguard) VS ???-Berlyn is a made-over Alex Wright. His bodyguard is The Wall, I believe. The crowd boos the announcement that Bagwell is not there. Berlyn's mystery opponent is *sigh* Jim Duggan, who fortunately for WCW happened to be in the arena. Duggan leads a huge "USA" chant.Berlyn jumps Duggan before the bell, but Duggan shrugs off his offense and knocks Berlyn out over the top before leading another big "USA" chant. Berlyn comes back with more offense, which Duggan isn't even remotely interested in selling. Duggan fights out of a chinlock, then no-sells more Berlyn offense. They then do an awkward amateur wrestling sequence. Berlyn gets another chinlock and Heenan tells a couple bad jokes confusing "hair" with "heir" which clearly annoys Tony.Duggan gets a backdrop and Berlyn takes a walk as The Wall peels back the floor mats. The Wall hits a clothesline on Duggan, which doesn't draw a DQ. Berlyn mercifully ends things with a hangman's neckbreaker. This was interesting to watch because Duggan clearly had zero interest in putting Berlyn over, which pissed off poor Alex, who's had this happen to him on PPV before, and they got more and more intense as a result.-Bagwell finally shows up, saying his plane was late. Bagwell gives Duggan a hug, but Duggan shrugs him off. Why are YOU pissed Duggan? You got an easy PPV pay day out of it.-A video recaps the Windhams winning the tag titles leading to this rematch.-Match 6 for the World Tag Team Championship: The Windhams [c] (w/Curt Hennig) VS Harlem Heat-The Windhams control most of the first few minutes with the majority of their offense being of the punch-kick variety. Stevie plays FIP while not actually selling anything for a bit before tagging Booker. Booker shrugs off attempted interference from Hennig and hits a leg lariat on Kendall, but is soon sent outside and attacked by Hennig. Booker plays FIP for a bit, including getting clobbered by Kendall during a spinaroonie attempt. Barry hits the superplex, but Booker kicks out at two. They bust out the false tag, which is the first time I've seen that in a while.Stevie gets the tag that the ref may or may not have seen, and cleans house before Hennig KO's him with the cow bell. Kendall gets a visual fall as Booker fights off Barry & Hennig before dropping Kendall with a MISSILE DROPKICK for the Heat's ninth title. Pretty boring for the most part, although I appreciate the attempt to work the full tag formula.-A video recaps Sid's "Millennium Man" run. I don't like the booking of Sid cleanly beating Sting at Road Wild, but "only" getting a U.S. title shot while Sting gets a world title match.-Match 7 for the United States Championship: Chris Benoit [c] VS Sid Vicious-Sid uses his size advantage early on. Benoit counters by going after the leg. The crowd chants "Goldberg" to piss Sid off. Benoit traps Sid's leg between the steps and the post, and dropkicks the steps. Benoit tries a cross-body but gets caught. Benoit slides out of a slam and hits a German, but then tries a crucifix which Sid counters into a Samoan drop. Sid just about no-sells the leg work, and hits a Cobra Clutch slam for two. Sid counters a sunset flip by sticking his dick in Benoit's face, and that gets two.Benoit manages to hit a low dropkick and get the Crossface, but Sid powers out to get to closer to the ropes before falling back into the hold, allowing Sid to touch the ropes with his foot. Sid avoids the diving headbutt, and finishes with a powerbomb to win the title. Benoit did a good carry job here. It would have been a lot better had Sid bothered to sell the leg at all though.-A video previews DDP/Goldberg.-Match 8: DDP VS Goldberg-Goldberg has his familiar theme back. Mickie Jay checks DDP for weapons, and actually finds a chain. DDP shoves Mickie, and his roll of quarters spills out. Don't think I've seen that before. Heenan makes a joke about DDP weighing in at over 800 pounds because of all the weapons on him, and Tony actually laughs at it before apologizing for doing so.Goldberg knocks DDP outside, and DDP threatens to leave if the crowd won't stop their "Goldberg" chant. DDP tries to make good on that promise, but gets caught in the crowd by Goldberg. Back in the ring, Goldberg fights off a Diamond Cutter attempt and hits a snap powerslam. DDP hits a back kick to the nuts and the ref takes an elbow from Goldberg, allowing DDP to pull out another object and hit Goldberg, who takes a Marty Janetty flip bump off it. They slug it out, before DDP asks the ref to check the time before using the object again, followed by an elbow drop for two.Goldberg suddenly starts no-selling and slugs DDP down. DDP breaks out his hiptoss---> DDT counter for two. Goldberg comes back with a butterfly suplex for two. Kanyon & Bam Bam rush out. Bam Bam distracts the ref, allowing Kanyon to break something over Goldberg's head, and DDP follows with a sambo suplex for two. Goldberg fights off Bam Bam & Kanyon, before finishing DDP with the spear and jackhammer. This was pretty good, but not a classic like their Halloween Havoc '98 match.-The same video that opened the PPV airs again.-Match 9 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Hulk Hogan [c] VS Sting-Buffer does the intros. Hogan & Sting have a good sportsmanship moment. Bret comes out to wish both guys luck and plead for a title shot. Even though tempers flare, they wrestle cleanly and scientifically to start, before Hogan roughs it up. Hogan wins a test-of-strength and hits a suplex, but Sting pops up while Hogan plays to the crowd, and gets his first real offense in. They fight outside for far longer than a ten count would provide, and Hogan, ever the sportsman, uses a tv cable to choke Sting. Gee, why wouldn't Sting, the most trusting man in wrestling, not trust Hogan?Hogan wears Sting down, but can't put him away. Sting fights back and hits two Stinger Splashes, but misses a third, and Hogan Hulks Up. As Hogan hits the legdrop, DDP runs out and KO's the ref, before hitting Hogan with the Diamond Cutter and putting Sting on top for two. Buffer starts to announce Sting as the winner, but stops. DDP gives the ref the Diamond Cutter, but Bret returns to take care of him. Sid tries his luck, but Hogan takes him out. Luger comes out with a baseball bat. Hogan takes care of him, but Sting gets the bat, and KO's Hogan to a big pop. Sting puts the Deathlock on Hogan and wins his ninth (!) world title. This was an interesting match with Hogan working the heel side of Sting's formula instead of the other way around before all the run-ins and the swerve.-Sting & Luger celebrate. It's supposed to be a heel turn, but someone didn't clue the crowd in.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This was a surprisingly decent show, aided tremendously by the crowd. The booking is head-scratching, but I get the feeling it won't compare to what comes next.-NEXT EVENT: Halloween Havoc '99: Here Comes Russo

Was it ever explained what the deal with Buff Bagwell and his mother was?  Like, was it a rib about how much of a mama's boy he is or what?  It just seemed so out of nowhere even for later WCW.

Remember what Norman Bates said, a boy's best friend is his mother.
