WCW PPV Memories/Discussion Thread Part 2: Russo's Revenge

Judy Bagwell supposedly called JR so many times badgering him about pushes and perks for Buff that he (Buff) was explicitly told JR never wanted to hear from his mom ever again.

What makes it more pathetic is that the Judy Bagwell locker room stories go back to at least Global in the early 90's (Judy thought Marcus should be the promotion's champion and told the booker so.  Repeatedly).  Keep in mind that Marcus got into the business in 1990 and joined Global in 1991, so he was a rookie at the time.  You'd think after a decade or so of locker room ribs and stories, Buff would handle his own business or at least reign his mom in.  Guess not.

Halloween Havoc '99 10/24-From Las Vegas-Opening video focuses on Sid/Goldberg & Sting/Hogan. Sid in a suit is awesome.-Hosts are Tony & Bobby. Tenay is there too.-Tony opens by announcing that Rey has a knee injury and cannot compete, so the "Powers That Be" have stripped he & Konnan of the tag titles, and now there will be a triangle tag team street fight between Harlem Heat, Morrus & Knobbs, and Konnan & Kidman.-Match 1 for the Cruiserweight Championship: Disco Inferno [c] VS Lash LeRoux-Disco gets the early jump, but Lash fires back, and at one point mocks Disco's dancing before doing a split and sending Disco outside. They end up wrestling more like WWE-style cruiserweights than WCW cruiserweights. Lots of punch-kick offense. Awkward finish was they fuck up a ducked clothesline spot, then Disco simply picks Lash up for an inverted atomic drop, and finishes with the Last Dance. Lash, since it's 1999, drops Disco with a Michinoku Driver on the belt afterwards, and gets cheered for it. OK opener.-Tony talks about discord within The Revolution, and EARLIER TODAY Benoit & Malenko tell Saturn that he can stick the Revolution up his ass, and to relay the same message to Shane Douglas.-Tenay interviews Harlem Heat about the tag title match. They say nothing of note.-Match 2 for the Vacant WCW World Tag Team Championship: The First Family (w/Jimmy Hart) VS Harlem Heat VS Konnan & Kidman [Triangle Street Fight]-The Family all wear masks, so naturally Heenan & Tony talk about them looking better with the masks on. Kidman has a camcorder, and no one seems to know why. There are two refs for this one. The match immediately breaks down and everyone leaves the ring. Back in the ring, Morrus hits Booker with a trashcan lid for two, then Knobbs accidentally KO's Morrus with a can, then has to save, along with Kidman, when Booker makes a cover. Jimmy tried getting involved by hitting Booker across the back with a can lid, and gets chased down the entrance by Booker, only for Knobbs to wipe Booker out with a garbage can.Stevie helps Booker out, and they send Knobbs through a cheap casket that's part of the set. Back in the ring, Morrus pess slams Kidman onto a seated chair. In the back, Booker accidentally kicks Stevie and Knobbs works them both over with a garbage can. In the ring, Morrus tells Jimmy to GET THE TABLE, which he does. Jimmy helps Hugh put Konnan on the table, and Hugh puts him through it with the No Laughing Matter. Stevie hits Knobbs with a mummy and Booker pins him. As the Heat make their way to the front, Kidman pins Morrus in the ring. After some confusion, the Heat are awarded their 10th title, their third in three months. Konnan appears to have injured his shoulder on the moonsault through the table. This was surprisingly short, and more of a TV version of a street fight, so there's one example of Russo's influence on this show. I think keeping it short was a good decision in this case.-Ric & David Flair arrive. Ric has a crowbar, and he doesn't look happy.-DDP & Kim come to the ring. Kim talks about taking a spanking from Ric, and it gets nipply in Las Vegas. Kim talks about her & DDP's foreplay, which I didn't need to know about. DDP talks about Kim trying to lure David into a trap, but David had Ric take his place. DDP talks about Ric being in a hotel room with Kim and only being able to think about "spanking it". He makes a couple more masturbation references, then challenges Ric to make their match a strap match.-TO THE BACK where Goldberg is looking for Sid.-Tenay interviews Eddie. Kidman is mad the other Animals are banned from ringside. Eddie gets made when Tenay asks about Konnan, then gets mad again when Tenay asks if the rolex Eddie has on is the one the Animals stole from Ric.-Match 3: Saturn VS Eddie Guerrero-Eddie gives the watch to Heenan, because he doesn't trust Tony. Tony's reaction to that is pretty funny. They go outside seconds in. Saturn presses Eddie onto the steps. Back in, Saturn hits a pop-up powerbomb for two. Saturn switches it up to work the arm, and gets  a cross-armbreaker. Eddie tries fighting back, but Saturn hits a t-bone suplex for two, and moves on to the leg. Eddie comes back with a backdrop driver for two, he then applies a keylock followed by a short-armscissors. Saturn powers out of that and dumps Eddie. Saturn follows up with a Lionsault for two, but a second attempt hits Eddie's knees.Eddie hits a brainbuster, but misses the frog splash. They go back-and-forth, and Saturn crotches Eddie on the top turnbuckle, then hits an overhead throw for two. Eddie gets out of a second rope Splash Mountain, and hits a superplex. Ric and his crowbar come out after Eddie, and draw a DQ. Kidman tries to help, but he gets taken out too. Flair threatens Torrie, then drops it to put the moves on her, leading to a forced kiss, which, this being a Russo-booked show, Torrie enjoys. Ric gets his watch back from Heenan.-Goldberg bloodies Sid backstage. Sid jumping up yelling "IS THAT ALL 'YA GOT?!" is bad ass.-Buff Daddy comes out, and says he has a problem with "the two new writers from up North who are going to save WCW" and another one with Jeff Jarrett for hitting him with a guitar. Buff challenges Jarrett, who runs out (armed with a guitar, naturally). They brawl, for a bit. Luger runs out to go after Jarrett for el kabonging Liz, and ends up accidentally hitting Buff with the guitar, which doesn't break. While Buff's neck may be fucked up we still have to go...-TO THE BACK where Sid freaks out while being checked on.-ELSEWHERE: A pained Eddie calls Rey to come back to the arena and take care of some Filthy Animal business.-Match 4: Brad Armstrong VS Berlyn (w/The Wall)-Man, did NO ONE want to job to Berlyn on PPV? Good heat for Berlyn's entrance. Pretty basic first few moments until Berlyn counters a leapfrog into a powerbomb for two. Berlyn makes the arrogant cover that's always reversed, and Brad does reverse it, but only for two. Berlyn starts to dominate, and the heat dissapates. Brad holds the ropes to block the hangman's neckbreaker, and...gets the pin? This was a basic undercard TV match, but you might as well kill the Berlyn gimmick now.-The Wall cheapshots Brad, and a short heel beatdown follows, then Berlyn leaves to his music. Why not just give Berlyn the win?-Tenay interviews Ric, who challengers the Filthy Animals to come find him. The strap stipulation is officially added to Flair/DDP. Naitch claims Kim actually loved the spanking in the hotel room, and says he's going to give it to her after the match tonight.-Match 5 for the Television Championship: Chris Benoit [c] VS Rick Steiner-Rick makes Benoit go outside, then catches Benoit coming back in, and beats the shit out of him with punches to the back of the head and a huge clothesline. Benoit avoids an elbowdrop, and takes over on offense for a bit. Steiner rolls outside, so Benoit hits a suicide dive. Steiner regains control, and pounds on Benoit some more. Benoit manages to send Steiner outside and waits for him to get back in, but Steiner shoves the ref into Benoit, then hits a low blow when the ref moves.Steiner does some leg work, then avoids a dropkick to cut off a potential comeback. They botch a sunset flip out of a powerbomb, and Benoit takes an ugly landing. Benoit gets a small package out of nowhere for two. Steiner rams Benoit dick-first into the top turnbuckle, and gets two off that. Steiner hits a release German for two. Steiner paintbrushes Benoit, then adds another release German for two.Steiner sets up for a regular suplex, but Benoit hits a DDT out of nowhere. That starts Benoit's big comeback, and he hits the rolling Germans for two. Benoit accidentally KO's the ref with a back elbow. Benoit ducks a chairshot and dumps Steiner on his head. Benoit tosses the chair at Rick, then punches it when Rick catches it. Benoit goes for the swandive headbutt, but Steiner throws the chair at Benoit's head on the way down.Dean Malenko runs out and teases hitting Steiner with the chair, so he naturally turns and KO's Benoit, allowing Steiner to regain the title. This was a pretty good match of the punck-kick variety. Better things would be in store for Benoit (and for that matter Malenko) soon.-Malenko & Saturn hug it out at the entrance.-Tenay interviews Bret Hart about a baseball bat attack from Lex, and asks how it will effect him tonight. Bret says it won't, and the fans being behind him will make the difference.-Match 6: Lex Luger (w/Liz) VS Bret Hart-Lex's entrance gets a little less impressive when he struggles to take his pull-away pants off. Bret immediately jumps Luger and takes him outside. Bret takes Luger back in, and works on the midsection. Back outside, Liz tries getting involved, but it doesn't work. Luger finally turns the tide by going to the eyes. That doesn't last long, and Bret switches up to working the back.Bret goes for the Sharpshooter, but Luger goes to the eyes again to block. They fight over a hiptoss, and end up going out over the top. Bret has tweaked the bad ankle, and Luger goes after it. Lex gets a half-crab, and Bret taps. Not much to this one, but the psychology was pretty solid.-Tenay asks Goldberg if his attack has made Sid more dangerous, Goldberg threatens to decapitate Sid in response.-Next comes a pretty infamous segment as Madusa comes out to "model" the new WCW cologne, and Heenan completely buries the product. Madusa calls "bullshit" on having to do this, and dumps a bottle of the cologne on Heenan, who freaks out, and Tony agrees with Heenan that the cologne stinks. The company that made the cologne for them must have been THRILLED when they saw this.-A video previews Hogan/Sting. Why is this not the main event, you ask?-Match 7 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Sting [c] VS Hulk Hogan-Hogan doesn't come out when his music plays. Sting comes out, then Hogan comes out in street clothes. The "match" consists of Hogan laying down for Sting.-Before the announcement of Sting's win is even over, the video package for Goldberg/Sid kicks in.-Tony is mystified about what just happened.-Match 8 for the United States Championship: Sid [c] VS Goldberg-After making a big deal about champions coming out second for the last match, the champ comes out first here without comment from Tony. The Outsiders attack Goldberg during his entrance. Sid then attacks Goldberg before Goldberg can make a move toward The Outsiders. Sid walks Goldberg back towards the ring, but Goldberg goes on offense before they even get there. Goldberg re-opens the wound from earlier. They finally get back in the ring, and Sid catches Goldberg coming in. Sid gets a camel clutch, but Goldberg hangs on and turns it into an electric chair for two. Goldberg pounds on the wound, and Sid has the crimson mask. Tony & Heenan put Sid over huge here for taking the ass-whipping he takes and to keep trying to fight back. The ref eventually stops the match when Sid can't defend himself. Rick Steiner comes out to try to calm Sid down, then help him to the back. It was pretty much all punch-kick offense, but it was pretty riveting stuff because of how everyone involved sold it.-Rick walks Sid to the end of the entrance, then has to talk him out of coming back to the ring.-Tony & Bobby talk about the last match some more, and continue to put Sid over.-A video shows the Flair/Kim angle from Nitro, but cuts out before the actual spanking.-Instead of it being time for Flair/DDP, Sting comes out to issue an open challenge for later on. Sting does not say it's for the title, and Tony assumes it.-Match 9: DDP (w/Kim) VS Ric Flair [strap Match]-This is pin or submission, not touch the corners. Flair controls the early going, and they make their way down the entrance, and into the crowd. They go back to ringside where Ric steals a couple kisses from Kim, and turns into a punch to the forehead from DDP. Flair gets busted open, and DDP goes after the wound. Tony & Bobby abandon ship when they go to the announce table, so there's no commentary for a few moments.Back in the ring, Flair goes low to turn the tide. Flair ties DDP up in the corner to add a couple more chops and another low blow. Flair starts working the leg, and gets the figure 4. DDP almost passes out, but he manages to hang on and grab the ropes. Flair pounds away, but DDP goes low twice to turn the tide. DDP wraps the strap around Flair's neck, and hits the Cutter. Charles Robinson stops his count at two, then calls for the bell. DDP gets mad, and gives Robinson a Cutter. This wasn't the most scientifically sound match, but the intensity of the two carried it admirably enough before the blown finish.-David Flair runs out with a crowbar to try to help his dad, only to be blocked by Kim, who steals the crowbar. DDP hits Flair in the nuts with the crowbar, then gives David two Diamond Cutters. Ric does a stretcher job, only to be attacked by the Filthy Animals who then hijack the ambulance.-Sting comes out for his open challenge.-Match 10: WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting VS Goldberg-After pimping this as a title match since Sting made the challenge, Tony is notified during Goldberg's entrance that this is non-title. Goldberg beats up Sting for a bit. Sting comes back and hits a splash off the top for two, then actually spears Goldberg. Goldberg no-sells that, but misses a spear and hits the post. Sting hits three Stinger Splashes. Goldberg leapfrogs over Sting, then spears him before finishing with the jackhammer. Robinson hands Goldberg the belt, then Goldberg is announced as the new champion. The match was short and sweet.-Sting lays out Robinson, which, IIRC, is the reason given for vacating the title.-FINAL THOUGHTS: The in-ring action, while not great, is still a notch above the usual Russo-booked PPV, and it's a decent show despite some questionable booking decisions until we get to the baffling booking for the world title. Why would HULK HOGAN of all people, lay down for anyone? Why does Robinson give Goldberg the belt and why is Goldberg announced as champion, despite their being no indication that it's a title match? Are the Filthy Animals meant to be faces, or heels?-NEXT EVENT: Mayhem

I know I've seen this PPV in it's entirely, but I don't remember it all.  It sounds mostly awful, so I assume I'm repressing the memory to preserve my sanity.  (I imagine a lot of people who worked for WCW during the later years are repressing the memories).

Mayhem '99 11/21

-From Toronto

-Hosts are Tony & Bobby

-Match 1: Jeff Jarrett VS Chris Benoit [WCW World Heavyweight Championship Tournament Semi-Final]

-Jarrett gets a takedown and taunts, only to turn right into a couple stiff chops from Benoit. Benoit completely dominates the early going, and the partisan crowd pops for just about everything he does. They go outside, and Jarrett crotches Benoit on the post to turn the tide. Back inside, Jarrett hits a really nice suplex for two. Jarrett gets a sleeper, but Benoit fights out of it, and gets one of his own, which Jarrett quickly counters with a jaw breaker.

Benoit catches Jarrett with a back breaker, a couple chops, then the rolling Germans for two. Creative Control make their way out, as Jarrett manages to hot shot Benoit, and he falls outside. Jarrett throws Benoit back in and hits a cross-body off the top, which Benoit rolls through for two. Benoit then counters a sunset flip for another near-fall. Benoit hits a belly-to-back suplex and the swandive headbutt, but Creative Control pull Benoit off the cover. One of the twins distracts the ref as the other attacks Benoit. Jarrett gets the stroke, but Dustin Rhodes comes from the crowd and pulls him off the cover. Heel miscomunication allows Benoit to get the guitar, and he KO's Jarrett for the pin. A heel beatdown follows to put Benoit at a disadvantage for the finals. This was pretty good before all the run-ins. The molten crowd helped out quite a bit as well.

-Mike Tenay interviews Disco Inferno, who is putting up $25,000 as well as the Cruiserweight title tonight. Disco asks Tenay how much the belt might be worth, before he gets jumped by Jarrett and Creative Control.

-Match 2 for the Cruiserweight Championship & $25,000: Disco Inferno [c] VS Evan Karagias (w/Madusa)

-As Disco's music plays, he's accosted by Tony Marinera (later Mamaluke in ECW), who mentions that Disco owes him money. Evan attacks Disco at the entrance and Tony joins the announce table. Evan gets a series of near-falls as Marinera does a really bad impression of a movie mobster, although him calling Tony "Tony Bagadonuts" is pretty funny. The match itself is very sloppy, with Disco clearly walking Evan through it.

Disco throws Evan out over the top, but gets caught with a dropkick when he tries a sledge off the apron. The crowd turns on this match with a big "boring" chant. Disco & Marinera both make advances toward Madusa. Evan stops to go after Marinera. Disco grabs a chair, but accidentally hits Marinera. Almost as an afterthought, Evan hits a springboard cross-body (which Disco almost ends up rolling through) for the pin and the title. This was more about pushing the "Disco owes the wrong people money" angle and eventually Madusa than anything between Disco & Evan, and the title.

-Mean Gene interviews Screamin' Norman Smiley (in Toronto Maple Leafs jersey & goalie equipment). Smiley says he's the most hardcore wrestler in WCW, but gets scared when a construction crew nearby makes a little noise.

-Match 3 for the Vacant Hardcore Championship: Brian Knobbs (w/Jimmy Hart) VS Norman Smiley

-Knobbs catches Norman getting in the ring, and immediately brains Norman with a trash can. Knobbs beats on Norman, but misses a splash with the can. Jimmy tosses another can, which Norman catches and uses. Norman stuffs Knobbs partially into the can and beats on it with the goalie stick. Norman tries to Big Wiggle with Knobbs, who hits him with a back elbow and a couple can shots. Knobbs takes forever to remove Norman's shin pads, and only gets one off.

They go to the back (which the crowd doesn't like) and just hit each other with weapons. Knobbs props a table against a wall and throws Norman through it. They fight over to the food stuffs and eventually into the elevator. Jimmy accidentally hits Knobbs with a garbage can, and Norman gets the pin. Knobbs tosses both Jimmy and Norman into a stack of hamburger buns. This was pretty terrible, and a bit hard to watch as Knobbs' most-used move was a weapon shot to the head.

-A video recaps the Revolution/Filthy Animals feud.

-Tenay interviews The Revolution, who talk about "what if"s. Saturn leaves everyone speechless with a rant about making the Filthy Animals extinct just like the dinosaurs.

-Mean Gene interviews the Animals (stopping briefly to feel Konnan's fuzzy hat). Torrie tries to act all tough. I don't buy it.

-Marinera tells Disco that he's "bringing the boys" tomorrow.

-Match 4: The Revolution (Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko, & Asya) VS The Filthy Animals (Eddie Guerrero, Kidman, & Torrie Wilson) [Elimination Match]

-Pier-six brawl starts, but it quickly settles into Eddie VS Dean. They go outside, and Saturn & Kidman follow with an Asai moonsault and a springboard dive respectively. At ringside, a fan pokes Malenko with a flag and gets ejected. The girls looks like they're going to fight, but Kidman saves Torrie before she can get killed. Torrie hurts her ankle anyway. Eddie & Kidman move to look her over, and Eddie ends up shoving Kidman into a school boy from Dean for the first elimination. Eddie & Kidman get into a shoving match before Kidman leaves.

Eddie gets double-teamed by Saturn & Malenko, then Konnan walks out. Asya gets in, and hits an impressive delayed vertical suplex, which draws a nice response from the crowd. Dean gets in, and is quickly caught with a sloppy rana ---> rollup for the second elimination.

Asya gets back in, and hits a nice throw on Eddie for two, but takes an accidental superkick from Saturn. Eddie clears Saturn out, then finishes Asya with the frog splash.

Saturn catches Eddie with a quick Northern Lights suplex for two, then applies a sleeper, which Eddie counters with a jaw breaker. Eddie counters a springboard with a dropkick, then hits a tornado DDT for two. Saturn hits the DVD out of nowhere for two. Eddie avoids a top rope elbow, then moves to tag Torrie before realizing how dumb that would be. Eddie hits a cross-body off the top, but Saturn rolls through and gets the Rings of Saturn to leave it Saturn VS Torrie.

Saturn gets Torrie in a...suggestive position, but she manages a low blow for two. Douglas leaves the announce table to distract the ref, allowing Saturn to hit Torrie with a low blow for the pin. This was OK. I guess. Not really much to it.

-Jarrett & Creative Control attack Buff Bagwell in the locker room.

-Match 5: Curt Hennig VS Buff Bagwell [Career Match]

-Pre-match video shows Hennig getting the "you get pinned you're gone" stip on all his matches, and finding various ways to avoid getting pinned. Buff doesn't come out when his music plays, and instead it's Jarrett & Creative Control. They attack Hennig until Buff runs out with a 2X4 to make the save. Curt immediately clobbers him to start the match. The crowd chants "Perfect" at Hennig as he beats up Bagwell.

Curt stops to jaw at the announce crew, and gets knocked into the railing by Buff. They go back-and-forth, with the crowd (and myself) growing disinterested until Curt bust out some VINTAGE Mr. Perfect offense before killing interest again with a long sleeper. Curt goes to work with very basic offense once Buff gets out of the sleeper. Buff gets a boot and the Blockbuster out of nowhere for the pin. This was so not good, and Curt's retirement lasted a whole 24 hours, IIRC.

-Hennig gets the standing ovation that Triple H chased during his babyface tenure, but never got.

-Tenay interviews Sting, who tells Tenay to tell Bret "it's still showtime".

-Match 6: Bret Hart VS Sting [WCW World Heavyweight Championship Tournament Semi-Final]

-Bret sucks up to the crowd (like he needs to) by wearing a Gretzky Canadian Olympic jersey. Sting wears one of his own t-shirts during the match. They jaw at each other until Bret finally starts punching Sting. They go outside for a bit, then back inside where Sting gets his first really offense before Bret takes over again. Sting turns the tide, working Bret's midsection instead of his bad knee. Sting sends Bret outside, but ends up missing a splash and hits the announce table.

That ends up meaning nothing, as Sting is still in better shape as they get back in the ring until Sting runs into a boot. The ref gets bumped, and Luger & Liz come out. Luger clips Sting in the knee with a bat (so they're not friends again), but Bret gets pissed at the interference and puts Luger in the Sharpshooter. The ref comes to and DQ's Sting, which Bret argues against and successfully lobbies for this match to continue.

They go back-and-forth for a little bit more. Sting gets the Scorpion Deathlock, but Bret reverses into the Sharpshooter for the submission. Slick finish, not much of a match.

-Sting shakes Bret's hand, meaning his big heel run lasted a whole two months.

-Mean Gene interviews Benoit, who considers it an honor to wrestle Bret in Canada for the world title.

-Tenay interviews Lex, who is now wearing a neck brace and begging out of his match. Lex offers to cut a check to every one of his fans for him not being able to wrestle tonight.

-Match 7: Vampiro (w/Jerry Only) VS Berlyn (w/The Wall) [Chain Match]

-Dr. Death & Oklahoma make their way out, and Oklahoma joins the announce table to guarantee this will suck reguardless of what happens in the ring. Berlyn promptly lays out the ref, and he & The Wall beat down Vampiro. Berlyn tapes Only to the guardrail while The Wall & Vampiro fight in the ring.

Berlyn makes The Wall put the chain on himself. The Wall chokeslams Vampiro and goes for the pin, but Berlyn pulls him off the cover and berates him until The Wall removes the collar and throws it at Berlyn before walking out. Vampiro immediately takes over and the chain gets removed from both guys, then he & Only double team Berlyn. Vampiro finally ends things with a chain-assisted camel clutch. The match was bad and stupid, made even worse by the bad and stupid Oklahoma commentary.

-Dr. Death lays out Vampiro & Only post-match.

-Tenay interviews Scott Hall, who is now in the U.S. & TV champion, since he was supposed to face Rick Steiner in a title-vs-title match but Rick is out after being powerbombed off the stage by Sid.

-Curt Hennig takes a last walk backstage.

-Kimberly arrives.

-Match 8: Lex Luger (w/Liz) VS Meng

-Meng beats the crap out of Luger, and shrugs off any offense from Lex, but can't finish because of Lex's neck brace. Luger tries bashing Meng's head into the turnbuckles, but that only sparks Meng's comeback. Liz accidentally maces Luger and takes off, allowing Meng to rip off the neck brace and finish with the TONGAN DEATH GRIP. This is a rare case of a match going too long on a Russo-booked show.

-David Flair polishes his crowbar. That is NOT a euphemism.

-Match 9 for the United States & Television Championships: Scott Hall [c] VS ???

-Hall claims Nash is on his way, and the two are going to "turn Toronto upside down". Hall's open challenge is answered by Booker T. Booker controls the early going, in between stall sessions from Hall. Hall takes control with his usual offense and gets a sleeper. Jarrett & Creative Control make their way out as Booker makes his comeback. Jeff distracts the ref, forcing Booker to fight off CC. He does so, but leaves himself wide open to the Outsider's Edge for the pin. Pretty much a TV match.

-Heel beatdown on Booker follows, until Midnight arrives and makes the save. If this happened now, the board would be full of BOOKER T IS A PUSSY HE NEEDED A WOMAN TO SAVE HIM posts.

-Lex searches for Liz.

-Poor Tony actually has to say "it's time for Kimberly VS David Flair, one of the marquee matchups on tonight's show".

-Video recaps the Kim/DDP/Flairs angle and David's descent into madness. He even recovers from getting hit by a car driven by Kim, proving that horror movies are correct: going nuts does make you super-human.

-Match 10: David Flair VS Kimberly

-Kim stretches, which draws cheers from the crowd. David approaches and she kicks him low, but he no-sells and illustrates he has a cup on. David KO's the ref. Kim seduces David, allowing her to remove David's cup and kick him in the nuts again. Kim puts the cup on David's face then chokes him. David throws her away and backs her down again before Kanyon runs out and saves her. DDP (w/one arm in a sling) follows. David manages to whack Kanyon with the crowbar, but gets punched and hit with the Diamond Cutter by DDP. DDP goes to bash David with the crowbar, but Arn runs out and takes it away from DDP before hovering over David and protecting him. As Kim & DDP leave, David whacks Arn in the back with the crowbar before taking off through the crowd.

-Arn does a stretcher job.

-A video recaps the Goldberg/Sid feud.

-Tenay interviews Sid, who says it is impossible for him to say "I Quit" then threatens to do nasty things to Goldberg until he admits Sid is The Man.

-Match 11: Sid VS Goldberg [i Quit Match]

-Goldberg gets the early jump, but Sid quickly takes over. Sid tells the ref to ask Goldberg if he quits after just about every move. Punch to face? ASK HIM! Massive chokeslam? ASK HIM Step-over pinky hold? ASK HIM. The crowd gleefully turns on Goldberg as he gets a cross-arm breaker to start his comeback. Goldberg gets a camel clutch...and Sid PASSES OUT? Oh FUCK THAT. This was the antithesis of their match at Halloween Havoc.

-Lex knows Liz is hiding because she knows she fucked up. He warns Liz to watch her back. WHAT A MAN.

-Match 12 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Benoit VS Bret Hart

-They wrestle scientifically for the first couple minutes, until Benoit escapes the Sharpshooter. Bret punches Benoit in the face, drawing boos. Malenko comes back as the fan who he got ejected earlier, and attacks Benoit before getting run off by Bret. Bret works Benoit over then steps on his neck, which pisses Benoit off and cues his comeback.

Bret cuts off the comeback, and scores with a DDT for two. Benoit reverses a pickup, and hits a tombstone, followed by the swandive headbutt for two. The Outsiders get involved by attacking Benoit. Goldberg runs out after them, and gets them out of the match with help from Bret. As Goldberg and The Outsiders fight at the entrance and eventually to the back, Benoit gets back in the match and goes after Bret's knee.

Bret makes a comeback and starts setting up for the Sharpshooter. Bret knocks Benoit outside, then when he tries to bring Benoit back in, Benoit slides behind him and hits a couple rolling Germans. Bret blocks the third, so Benoit goes for the Crossface. Bret fights out of that, and after a big struggle, gets Benoit into the Sharpshooter for his only WCW world title. This was a pretty good main event, and really did not need the run-ins.

-Bret is joined in celebration by members of the Hart family (and some random kid who snuck in with them, according to Bret's book).

-FINAL THOUGHTS: This was very much a "Russo show", missing only a worked-shoot angle. There are too many matches for most of them to mean anything, and some really weird (whatever that chain match was supposed to be) and outright bad (Oklahoma) ideas. Russo is still the unseen highest power, so he isn't bringing the shows down with his mere presence yet. If you have to pick a WCW PPV from this era to watch, you could do worse.

Starrcade '99 12/19-From Washington D.C.-Opening video is Scott Hudson running down the card. Oh boy this doesn't look good...-Another video focuses on Sid/Nash & Bret/Goldberg.-Hosts are Tony, Bobby, & Scott Hudson-Match 1: Disco Inferno & Lash LeRoux VS The Mamalukes (w/Tony Marinera)-Scott Hudson actually calls this the most "stacked" Starrcade in history. The Mamalukes clean house right away, and it settles into Lash VS Vito. Vito hits a nice suplex, then adds a couple overhand chops in the corner. Lash tries to fight back, but takes a sweet kick to the face from Vito, who's exaggerated karate manuerisms actually draw some cheers. Johnny the Bull gets in, and immediately cedes control of the match to Lash, who tags Disco. Disco keeps the pressure on for a while, but Stamboli hits a nice leg sweep to turn the tide.Disco plays FIP while the crew goes over everything that's happened between the two teams, and it sounds like a lot of effort was put into this feud, actually. The Mamalukes hit a swank double-team hip toss into a huge slam. Vito taunts the crowd and ends up missing a splash, which allows Disco to make the hot tag. The faces clean house, then Vito pulls Disco outside and follows him while Lash & Stamboli do battle inside. Stamboli hits a gorilla press slam, but then slightly botches a leap to the top before missing a legdrop. Disco comes back in with a frog splash on Stamboli, but Vito breaks up the cover with a flying sledge. The match completely breaks down, and Disco accidentally catches Lash with the Last Dance, and Vito finishes Lash with a spinning Impaler DDT. This was a surprisingly decent tag formula opener.-Heel beatdown on Disco follows, and Marinera uses a bottle of ether or chloroform to KO Disco, and they put him in a bodybag before carrying him to the back. Once there, Vito lets Disco out of the bodybag only to put him in the trunk of a car before driving away.-The crew talk about the main event between Bret & Goldberg, which is no-DQ. Hudson screws up and says that match is "moments away". They then talk about Sid VS Nash in a powerbomb match. Tony says that Scott Hall cannot defend the U.S. title against Benoit in a Ladder Match due to a knee injury, so Hall has been stripped, and the title awarded to Benoit.-Benoit comes out and explains the U.S. title situation to the crowd. Benoit isn't happy about being awarded the title, and says he considers it vacant. Benoit issues an open challenge for anyone to face him in the scheduled ladder match for the U.S. title. Probably not a good idea, Chris.-Match 2 for the Cruiserweight Championship: Evan Karagias [c] (w/Spice) VS Madusa-Madusa jump-starts the match with a cross-body off the apron, followed by mounted punches. Evan sends her into the steps, but she comes right back and does the same to him. Madusa dares Evan to hit her, and he delivers. Evan hits a powerslam, but whiffs on a quebrada. Madusa scores with a couple kicks, but gets caught going up top with a slam. Evan hits a powerbomb and gets a jackknife cover, but Madusa bridges out, and almost breaks Evan's neck with a powerbomb of her own. Whoever OK'd that spot (if anyone did) should have been fired.Evan sends Madusa outside and hits a dive. He sends her back in, but Spice distracts him, then turns on him, allowing Madusa to hit a German suplex to win the title. This was what it was.-Mean Gene interviews Screamin' Norman, and says that Norman is afraid of Meng. Norman (in a Redskins uniform) says he is worried about Meng, but not afraid. Gene decides to be a dick and tells Norman the interview is over and they've cut away when they haven't, and Norman reveals he shit himself when he mistook a producer for Meng.-Match 3 for the Hardcore Championship: Norman Smiley [c] VS Meng-Norman comes out with a bin containing a garbage can and a large Surge beverage container. Norman throws the can in the ring, but Meng bashes himself in the head with it and throws it back at Norman. Norman runs to the back, and Meng chases him. Norman hits Meng with another garbage can, but Meng no-sells, and Norman starts his screaming. They go through the catering section, and Meng slams Norman through a table before throwing a cinder block at him.Meng no-sells getting sprayed with a fire extinguisher, and Norman runs away. Finlay attacks Meng, followed by his "disciple" Brian Knobbs (who has a haircut better suited for someone about 20 years younger). Meng fights them off until Finlay KO's him with a lead pipe. Finlay & Knobbs leave, allowing Norman to come out from his hiding spot and (very cautiously) pin Meng to retain before getting the fuck out of dodge. Meng instinctively puts the TONGAN DEATH GRIP on Nick Patrick. This was amusing enough.-David Flair has a golden crowbar delivered to his dressing room.-Oklahoma psychs up Steve Williams before leaving their dressing room and getting abducted by the Misfits.-The Revolution declare themselves a sovereign nation, which pisses off Jim Duggan, leading to the next match.-Mike Tenay interviews Duggan, who refuses to tell Tenay who his partners are. Duggan is OVER AS FUCK in D.C.-Match 4: The Revolution (Shane Douglas, Dean Malenko, Saturn,& Asya) VS Jim Duggan & Mystery Partners- If The Revolution win, Duggan denounces the U.S.A., if Duggan's Team wins, The Revolution take his spot as WCW's janitor for 30 days. Duggan's partners are The Varsity Club of Mike Rotundo, Kevin Sullivan, & Rick Steiner (w/Leia Meow). Shane leaves his team to fight while he sits at the announcer's table. Duggan refuses to tag his partners. The VC only get involved when The Revolution start triple-teaming Duggan. They clean house and focus on Asya, before turning on Duggan and beating him down, which allows Shane to leave the announce table and get the pin. More of an angle than a match.-Douglas reminds Douglas he has to renounce his citizenship on Nitro, then The Revolution bury Duggan in their flag.-Mean Gene is with The Misfits, who have Oklahoma locked in a shark cage.-Match 5: Vampiro VS Steve Williams-If Vampiro wins, he gets five minutes with Oklahoma. Oklahoma is mic'd, and he calls the match from inside the shark cage. Vampiro starts things with a cross-body off the shark cage. They go back-and-forth for a little bit. Williams hits a huge throw off the top, then has to stop and take care of The Misfits (isn't Vampiro the face?) before walking into a spin kick. Williams avoids a second kick, and hits a belly-to-back suplex. Williams pounds on Vampiro, but throws Charles Robinson down a couple times, drawing a DQ. The match was nothing special, and the booking was total ass-backwards.-Match 6: Vampiro VS Oklahoma-The clock starts before Oklahoma gets out of the cage. Oklahoma actually holds his own for a little while, until Vampiro hits a throw. The Misfits get involved, and Vampiro finishes with the Nail in the Coffin.-Curt Hennig, Creative Control, Vincent (or is he Shane now?) & for some reason La Parka are in Russo's office. Russo says he forgot about their match because "something big is going down tonight" and basically just tells him to win.-Tenay interviews Harlem Heat & Midnight. Stevie doesn't like Midnight, and tells Booker he won't have his back tonight.-Match 7 to Determine the #1 Contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Championship: Creative Control & Curt Hennig VS Harlem Heat & Midnight-True to his word, Stevie no-shows, so it's a 3-on-2 handicap match, and a pretty bad one at that. I don't think I've ever been entertained by the Harris Twins at all, and there's not nearly enough Booker VS Curt action to make this worthwhile. Midnight plays FIP for a bit (and Tony confirms that Mike Jones is going by "Shane" now). They do a false tag, and Stevie finally comes out, but Booker completely ignores him.One of the twins misses a second rope elbow and Midnight makes the tag. Stevie has Nick Patrick, which would seems to indicate that the tag won't count. Booker cleans house, but Shane hands Hennig a foreign object, and he KO's Booker, allowing one of the twins to get the pin. Yup, this sucked.-A video previews Dustin/Jarrett, including Dustin dropping the "Seven" gimmick. That looked like it could have been interesting, actually.-Tenay interviews Dustin, who talks about Dusty getting fired right before Dustin got to WCW in October. Dustin tells Jeff he's going to "bite the dust", but is then sneak-attacked by Jarrett.-Match 8: Dustin Rhodes VS Jeff Jarrett [bunkhouse Match]-Jarrett continues the assault, including putting Dustin in a wheelbarrow and sending him into the guardrail. Dustin makes a comeback, and slams Jarrett into the wheelbarrow. Dustin breaks a thin board over Jarrett's back, then decides that he has a fever, and the only prescription is some cow bell. Next up, it's THE POWDER OF MILD EYE IRRITATION. Dustin then whips both Jarrett and the ref, before duct taping the ref into a corner, and putting tape over his mouth.Jarrett gets his first offense in with a low blow, and Curt Hennig comes out to free the ref. Jarrett gets a sleeper, but cannot put Dustin out. Dustin get out, and counters a second sleeper with a slam. Dustin blocks a couple bunches and hits a Bossman slam, but Curt pulls him off the cover. Dustin shrugs off Hennig's interference and hits Shattered Dreams, but Hennig pulls the ref out at two. Dustin hits Curt with Shattered Dreams, but is then backdropped outside by Jarrett. They fight up the aisle. Curt gets involved again, allowing Jarrett to jump of a ladder with a guitar shot for the pin. This was pretty boring for the most part, a theme with this show.-David Flair bashes a teddy bear with his crowbar.-A video previews DDP/David Flair.-Mean Gene interviews DDP, who says his usual.-Match 9: DDP VS David Flair [Crowbar on a Pole Match]-David completely negates the stip of the match right off the bat by sneak-attacking DDP with the gold crowbar right off the bat. Charles Robinson tries to stop the match, but DDP prevents that. David works on DDP's oft-injured ribs. DDP counters a sunset flip and gets two, but David comes right back with a DDT for two. DDP scored with a discus lariat for a double-KO spot, but David gets a low blow and a figure 4.DDP reverses the hold to escape. David gets the crowbar, but misses a homerun swing, and DDP hits a Diamond Cutter for the win. This was alright, especially for a David Flair match.-DDP adds a Cutter from the second rope and prepares to use the crowbar, but Daffney (not named yet) runs in and covers David to save him.-A video previews Sting/Luger.-Match 10: Lex Luger VS Sting (w/Liz)-If Sting wins, Liz's contract with Luger is terminated. Before Sting enters, he gives Liz a "super high octane" can of mace and gets her to throws hers away. Luger jumps Sting right as Sting gets in the ring. Luger works Sting over until Sting starts no-selling. Luger gets pin-balled between Sting & Liz. They do a double-KO spot, and Liz slides in. Liz goes to mace Sting, but it's silly string instead. STING ACTUALLY SAW A SWERVE COMING! It's truly a historic show.Sting completely destroys Luger and goes for the Deathlock. Liz wields the bat, which distracts Sting. He gets her to drop it, but then goes back to put the Deathlock on Luger, and Liz cracks him in the face with the bat for the DQ. Another match that was more of an angle than a match.-Liz puts Sting's arm in a chair, and Luger "breaks" his wrist then wails away on the arm with the baseball bat. The crew try to sell Sting's lack of movement as him being KO'd and not feeling anything, but you'd have to be really comatose not to feel your arm being broken in multiple places.-A video previews Sid/Nash.-Match 11: Sid VS WCW World Tag Team Champion Kevin Nash [Powerbomb Match]-Nash works Sid over to start. He goes for a cover after a clothesline, and the ref actually counts. Nash counters a powerbomb attempt with a low blow. They go outside, and Sid blocks a powerbomb attempt, then goes to work on Nash's back. Back in the ring, Sid keeps control, but the crowd turns on him. The ref gets bumped (*sigh*) and Sid hits a powerbomb, almost dropping Nash on his neck in the process. Jeff Jarrett runs out and KO's Sid with a guitar. Nash tries to powerbomb Sid, but his back gives out, so he simply tells the ref he hit the powerbomb...and the ref gives it to him. OH FUCK THAT FINISH! Seriously, FUCK THAT FINISH! Match was nothing before that, but again FUCK THAT FINISH.-Tenay interviews Benoit, who still hasn't had anyone accept his challenge.-Match 12 for the United States Championship: Chris Benoit [c] VS ??? [Ladder Match]-The open challenge is answered by Jeff Jarrett. This is old ladder match style where there's only one ladder and it's in the aisle, so they have to fight to get the ladder to begin with. Benoit hits a superplex about a minute in, and gets the ladder. Jarrett blocks Benoit from getting in the ring, and baseball slides the ladder into Benoit's ribs. Benoit's nose gets busted open pretty bad, and I'm not sure how it happened. Benoit knocks Jarrett outside and tries to climb, but Jarrett pulls him off the ladder and crotches him on the top rope.Jarrett sets the ladder up in a corner and tries, unsuccessfully, to crotch Benoit. He does manage to stick Benoit in the ladder, and tips the ladder over, basically doing a Russian leg sweep with the ladder. Benoit comes back and ties Jarrett into the Tree of Woe using the ladder, but as Benoit climbs, Jarrett kicks at the ladder to get it to fold and tip over, managing to not break his own leg in the process. They both climb and slug it out at the top. Jarrett wins that, but Benoit tips the ladder over to send Jarrett into the top rope.Benoit climbs, but Jarrett tips the ladder over, sending him chest-first onto the top rope. Jarrett climbs, and Benoit knocks the ladder over again, but Jarrett botches an attempt to crotch himself on the top rope. Benoit climbs, but Jarrett dropkicks the ladder, and Benoit takes a nasty fall. Benoit gets in position to climb again. He has the match won, but stupidly opts to drop a headbutt off the top of the ladder. Instead of it costing him, he simply climbs the ladder and grabs the belt to retain. Tony & Hudson call this a "match of the year", but it's nowhere near that quality, as all they had for the last half of it was "you climb the ladder and I'll tip it over", plus the finish was dumb.-A video previews Bret/Goldberg.-Tenay interviews Bret, who says he has to beat Goldberg to prove he is "the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be".-Match 13 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Bret Hart [c] VS Goldberg [No Count-Out, No DQ]-Michael Buffer handles the intros. Goldberg controls with his power early, hitting a gorilla press into a powerslam. Goldberg gets his rolling leg lock. Bret nearly counters that into the Sharpshooter, but Goldberg kicks him off. Bret takes a walk outside, and manages to take control for a moment after sending Goldberg into the ref. Goldberg regains the advantage, and sends Bret head-first into the announce table. Back in the ring, Goldberg hits a big boot. Goldberg tosses Bret right into ref #2 Charles Robinson.Goldberg goes for the spear, but Bret moves, and Goldberg hits the turnbuckle. Bret immediately slaps on the ring post figure 4. Bret looks like he smacked his head on the floor when the hold was broken. Bret works the injured leg, and gets a standard figure 4. Goldberg reverses the hold to force a break. They slug it out in the corner, and ref #3 gets bumped. Goldberg hits the Bret Killer superkick, and follows up with a huge spear.A very dejected-looking Roddy Piper comes out in a ref's shirt. Bret gets the Sharpshooter, and Piper immediately calls for the bell before walking away with the world title belt. Bret chases Piper down the aisle, and Piper hands Bret the belt before walking off, and the show ends right there. The match was pretty good, and I can actually understand the finish, given that the plan was Bret leading the new nWo 2000, and retaining his title and screwing Goldberg the same way he had been screwed would have been a good launching point for a heel turn. However, he REALLY did not need to be a heel, given the year he had in 1999, so I'm not sure how that would have taken had he not been injured.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a pretty bad show. Lots of bad matches and bad booking. When David Flair is competing for Match of the Night, it's not a good sign.-NEXT EVENT: Souled Out 2000

Souled Out 2000 1/16-From Cincinnati, OH-Hosts are, again, Tony, Bobby, & Tenay-Tony starts off by announcing that due to injuries by Bret Hart & Jeff Jarrett, the main event is now Chris Benoit VS Sid for the vacant world title. A video shows how Bret & Jarrett got their respective concussions. Tony then notes the U.S. title is also now vacant, but we won't know what's going to happen with that yet.-EARLIER TODAY: The Revolution attack Konnan and put him out. Instead of a Revolution VS Filthy Animals six man tag (with the Revolution having a mystery partner), and instead of the Animals finding a new partner, Kidman will face Dean Malenko in a "Catch-as-Catch-Can" match, then Saturn in a "Bunkhouse Brawl", then against the mystery partner in a "Caged Heat" match.-ALSO EARLIER TODAY: David Flair & Crowbar attack Vampiro, who asks, and gets, both guys in a triple threat instead of just David.-Tony then runs down the rest of the card, and the first match finally starts, about seven minutes in.-Match 1: Kidman VS Dean Malenko [Cacth-as-Catch-Can Match]-They have a scientific couple minutes, with Dean drawing heat by backing off whenever Kidman gets the slightest bit of offense. Kidman hits some mounted punches, and Dean forgets the rules, going out to the floor and getting DQ'd for doing so.-A couple different videos preview David/Vampiro/Crowbar.-Scott Hudson tries to interview Vampiro, but Masahiro Chono interrupts.-Mean Gene gets words from David, Crowbar, & Daffney. Their "crazy" acting is spectacularly awful.-Match 2: Vampiro VS World Tag Team Champion David Flair (w/Daffney) VS World Tag Team Champion Crowbar-Yes, David Flair & Crowbar are the world tag team champions, thanks to Double-A. Vampiro casually dominates the champs for a few minutes, until he sets David up for a move on the floor, allowing Crowbar to hit a dangerous dive over the top, which catches both Vampiro & David on the top of the head. Crowbar follows up with a running splash off the apron.Vampiro wins a chop exchange against David, but takes a German suplex and a slingshot somersault legdrop from Crowbar. Vampiro catches Crowbar going up top and hits a superplex, but David makes the save. The champs double-team Vampiro. Vampiro & Crowbar completely botch a powerbomb-into-an-X-Factor spot, and get a small "you fucked up" chant for their troubles. Crowbar hits a big splash off the top, but pulls off the cover to allow David a chance to do a shitty figure 4.Crowbar, with Vampiro still in the hold, hits a slingshot splash, and David forces him off the cover. The champs fight amongst themselves, allowing Vampiro to take out Crowbar, then crash David into Daffney before finishing him with the Nail in the Coffin. This was decent enough.-Buff Bagwell arrives.-Mean Gene interviews The Mamalukes (now, in true Russo fashion, with Disco as their protege'). Tony leaves to take care of some business. Vito & Johnny say nothing of note, then get mad when Disco asks them what they want him to do.-Match 3: The Harris Boys VS The Mamalukes (w/Disco Inferno)-The Mamalukes control the early going. Vito tells Disco to get involved, but Disco claims he didn't hear him. The Harris Twins get some offense in, and the crowd actually gets behind The Mamalukes. Johnny plays mob-enforcer-in-peril, but the Harris' are so generic with their offense, the biggest crowd reaction they get for the heat segment is a short "boring" chant. Vito eventually tries to get involved, but gets rammed into the post by Ron. The Harris' set Johnny up for a spike piledriver. Vito goes up top and gets shoved by Disco, but that ends up propelling Vito into a flying clothesline on Don for the pin. The idea was sound, but the Harris' are just SO FUCKING BORING no matter the incarnation.-The Mamalukes, oblivious to the fact that Disco was trying to cost them the match, attempt to celebrate with him.-Madusa is ready to kill Oklahoma.-Match 4 for the Cruiserweight Championship: Madusa [c] (w/Spice) VS Oklahoma-Let's get this over with. Oklahoma cuts a decent misogynistic promo. Madusa kicks the crap out of him for a couple minutes. Oklahoma hits a DDT and goes for his (plastic) bottle of BBQ sauce. Spice disarms him, and Asya attacks him before sending him back into the ring...where he yanks on a piece of Madusa's outfit and pins her to win the title. Ugh. The girls dump the BBQ sauce down his tights.-Mean Gene interviews new hardcore champion Brian Knobbs, who thanks Finlay for helping him become the champion, before vowing to destroy everyone else in the match, including Finlay.-Match 5 for the Hardcore Championship: Brian Knobbs [c] VS Norman Smiley VS Finlay VS Meng-A video shown during the entrances shows a hardcore match between Knobbs & Finlay that was taped for Nitro but didn't air until Thunder. It's interrupted by Smiley & Meng, who shake hands. Norman comes out in full-on riot gear, but loses his face shield right off the bat. Knobbs & Finlay work together in the early going. All four eventually go to the floor and trade weapon shots.Finlay & Norman briefly head into the crowd, and it doesn't go too well for Norman. Still more aimless brawling, with a table getting broken off-camera. Norman tries to fly off the top with a nightstick and hit Knobbs, who counters by clocking Norman with Norman's own riot shield, and Knobbs gets the pin to retain. Video replay shows Meng sent Knobbs through the table. Not much to this, but I greatly prefer this to the WWF "24/7" hardcore matches where two guys would get about two minutes to themselves before a cast of thousands ran in.-Match 6: Kidman VS Saturn [bunkhouse Brawl]-They, smartly, have a regular match to start since Russo (or whoever booked this show) was dumb enough to put this right after the hardcore match. Saturn controls the first couple minutes, including ripping Kidman's wife-beater to deliver a chop to the chest. Saturn goes for a table, but Kidman blocks him from using it. Saturn immediately regains control, and hits a nice flying elbow for two.It takes two tries, but Saturn does manage to POWERBOMB KIDMAN for two before whiffing on a moonsault. Kidman hits a springboard bulldog followed by a sky-high for two. Saturn catches Kidman and hits a throw, over the top and through the table, with Kidman's head hitting the apron on the way down. That only gets two. Saturn calls for the Rings, but opts to go up top, only to get caught with an awkward backdrop from there. Saturn tries, but learns YOU CAN'T POWERBOMB KIDMAN (more than once), and Kidman gets the pin off that. This was pretty good, with Kidman constantly fighting from underneath and doing a good job of it. Well, they gave it a shot with Kidman.-Stevie Ray goes back to the hood to remind Booker T where they came from.-Mean Gene interviews Stevie, who promises to teach Booker a lesson tonight.-Match 7: Booker T (w/Midnight) VS Stevie Ray-Booker sends Midnight to the back before the match starts. Booker is wearing the wrestling version of Eddie Murhpy's outfit from DELIRIOUS. Booker gets a fast start, but ends up running into a back elbow and a clothesline that knocks him for a loop. Booker makes a brief comeback, but gets cut off with a big powerslam, and Stevie slaps on a rear chinlock and talks some shit. Stevie keeps control for quite a while until Booker uses his kicks to make another comeback, including an axe kick followed by the SPINAROONIE. Booker hits the (as yet unnamed) Book End, but Big T (Tony Norris/Ahmed Johnson) and his gut run in for the DQ. Stevie destroys Booker with the Slap Jack (modified Pedigree) and a Tiger Bomb. This was surprisingly decent. Definitely not the awkward clusterfucks the Jeff VS Matt Hardy matches tended to be.-Big T calls Midnight "a piece of fish", then Stevie calls he and Big T "The New & Improved Harlem Heat".-Mean Gene interviews Sid, who says his maybe-three-month-old friendship with Benoit is out the window when they fight for the world title tonight.-A video recaps the Tank Abbott/Jerry Flynn feud. Yeah, a lengthy feud with a jobber is the perfect way to get a guy you want to put the world title on over Russo.-Match 8: Tank Abbott VS Jerry Flynn [shoot Fight]-This isn't really a shoot fight, but the Russo-favorite worked-shoot. Mercifully short, as Abbott powers out of a cross-armbreaker and KO's Flynn with a punch to the back of the head.-A video recaps the DDP/Buff feud over Kim.-Match 9: DDP VS Buff Bagwell [Last Man Standing Match]-They immediately spill outside and into the crowd. That doesn't last long, and they go back into the ring. Buff fights off a Cutter, and hits a neckbreaker. They quickly go back outside and down the aisle, right to the WCW.Com location. Buff tosses his necklace to Mark Madden for safe keeping. They do a "dueling computer monitors" spot, then DDP whacks Buff across the back with a keyboard. Buff ends up climbing the .Com set piece, and drops and elbow that puts DDP through a table. They go back to the ring again, and Buff connects with a low blow. Buff stops to strut, and that allows DDP to come back and crotch Buff on the ring post. The crowd split is made clear, as the men chant for DDP, while the women cheer for Buff. They start doing count-out spots to give both guys a breather, but end up over-doing it a bit, even though the crowd does count along every time. Buff hits the Blockbuster, but DDP gets up at nine. Buff pulls a collapsable riot baton out of his boot and wallops DDP, but that only gets nine. Buff turns his back on DDP, and ends up almost getting caught with the Cutter, managing to block it by hooking the top rope. Kim comes out as DDP is counted down. This was loads of fun, actually. Match of the night so far by miles.-Buff locks eyes with Kim, allowing DDP to attack him with the riot baton, and the crowd turns on DDP for that. Kim leaves with DDP, but doesn't look happy.-Match 10: Kidman VS ??? [Caged Heat Match]-"Caged Heat" is WCW's version of Hell in a Cell, with a lower roof. Shane Douglas (with fanny pack) comes out to introduce Kidman's opponent...The Wall. What a waste of the gimmick. Kidman uses a chair right away, but The Wall ends up punching the chair back into Kidman's face. The Wall presses Kidman into the side of the cage, then steps back and lets him splat on the floor. The crowd goes nuts for something completely unrelated to the match.Kidman hits a sunset bomb for two, but then walks right into a Samoan drop. Kidman counters a suplex with an awkward DDT for two. Kidman counters a chokeslam into a rana, but then flies off the top right into a chokeslam for the pin. This wasn't UT-Bossman bad, but definitely weak sauce for a HiaC-style match.-A video previews Nash/Funk.-Match 11: Kevin Nash VS Terry Funk [Hardcore Match]-If Funk wins, the nWo disbands again, if Nash wins, he becomes WCW commissioner. The crowd is behind Nash. Funk calls Nash to meet him in the aisle, and Nash obliges. They trade punches until Nash grabs a chair and puts Funk down. Nash then powerbombs Funk through the announce table. Nash gets on the house mic and taunts Funk, saying if Funk can crawl back into the ring, he can keep his commissioner's job. Funk gets in, but Nash announces that "I'm a lyin' son of a bitch" and goes on the attack.Nash tries to clothesline Funk out over the top, and Terry intentionally gets caught in the ropes and falls on his head. Funk, who is busted open pretty bad, stumbles around the ring and tosses a chair into the ring. They go back in, and Nash hits a couple chair shots to the back. Terry blocks a third chair shot with a punch to the gut, then hits a couple chair shots of his own, followed by a DDT for two. They trade punches until Nash goes low. Nash hits a couple chair shots to the head, which Funk no-sells. Two chairs get set next together and Funk grabs a third to make a small bridge with all three chairs. Naturally, Nash hits the Jackknife through the chair bridge for the pin. Tony & Tenay worry about how Nash will run WCW. I bet. This was shockingly good, thanks to Funk being willing to bump for both of them.-Chris Benoit does Hindu squats. Sid paces back-and-forth.-Scott Hudson interviews Arn Anderson, who will ref the title match. Arn bemoans how terrible life will be in WCW with Nash in charge. Arn says if the nWo get the world title, the war is over. Well that's just not true. Arn sends a get well message to Funk before leaving.-Match 12 for the Vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Benoit VS Sid [Guest Referee: Arn Anderson]-Michael Buffer handles the intros. They have a feeling out process as Saturn & David Flair walk out to watch this match. Sid sends Benoit outside as more wrestlers and officials come out to watch. Sid casually gorilla presses Benoit and drops him. Sid gets Benoit in vertical suplex position, then tosses him down face-first. Benoit finally manages to go after Sid's leg, then drags him outside before sandwiching the leg between the steps and the post before dropkicking the steps. He does this twice. They fight some more outside, and Benoit wins a strike exchange before rolling Sid back in the ring. Benoit gets a figure 4, but Sid refuses to give in, and eventually reverses the pressure. Benoit goes right back to work on the leg. Benoit gets an Indian Deathlock, but can't get Sid to tap. Sid starts no-selling punches and fires back before Benoit hits a low dropkick. Sid fights off an attempt at the rolling Germans, and hits a powerslam for two.Benoit comes back with another leglock, and Sid draws energy from the crowd before grabbing the ropes. Benoit hits another German suplex, then follows up with the swanddive headbutt for two, and a massive kick out by Sid. Sid hits a HUGE chokeslam, but Benoit rolls to the ropes, and gets his foot underneath the bottom rope. Benoit gets the Crossface out of nowhere and Sid IMMEDIATELY taps, but has his foot underneath the bottom rope like Benoit did, which WCW would use as an excuse to strip Benoit of the title when he and the other "Radicalz" left the next night. This was a really strong main event, with Benoit smartly carrying things with his leg work. The finish was weird, as Sid has been built up as a guy who won't quit, only to immediately tap to the Crossface without the slightest build on the shoulder and neck.-Tony sends some kind words to Benoit, who is then interviewed by Mean Gene. Benoit thanks Sid for the fight, then talks about seeing his first wrestling show at age 11 and idolizing the Dynamite Kid from that night on. Arn interrupts to congratulate Benoit, then Nash barges in to remind Benoit that Nash takes over at midnight.-The finish of the main event is shown again to close the show.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This was a surprisingly good show. I was dreading watching it after looking at the card, but it had some really strong matches, with the only real stinkers being the "Caged Heat" and the Cruiserweight title match. I recommend seeing this show if you haven't yet. Lots of good stuff here.-NEXT EVENT: SuperBrawl 2000

Goldberg goes for the spear, but Bret moves, and Goldberg hits the turnbuckle. Goldberg hits the Bret Killer superkick, and follows up with a huge spear.

As I recall, Bret indicated that Goldberg not easing him down on the ringpost figure-four spot gave him an initial concussion, and the superkick finished him off and made that concussion a career-ender.

SuperBrawl 2000 2/20-From San Francisco-Opening video focuses on Flair/Funk, Hogan/Luger, & Sid/Jarrett/Hall.-Hosts are Tony, Tenay, and *sigh* Mark Madden-Mean Gene tries to get an update on Nash's health from Nash, only for a parade of women to come out with Jarrett & The Harris Boys behind them. Jarrett says he "just rang Nash's bell" putting him out, and since he (Jarrett) is acting commissioner when Nash isn't around, he's ruling that the ban on the Harris Boys is lifted, and that they will be at his side during the main event.-The crew run down the card. Tony says that James Brown is supposed to be here, but Tenay is skeptical.-A video recaps the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. Holy fuck was the cruiserweight division depleted at this point.-Match 1 for the Vacant WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Lash LeRoux VS The Artist Formerly Known as Prince Iaukea (w/Paisley)-Paisley is the future Mrs. Booker T, Sharmell. Lash gets things started by smacking Paisely on the ass, so Iaukea jumps him. Lash fights off a couple attempts at corner punches, and launches Iaukea with a front suplex. Lash goes for his dancing clothesline, but Iaukea counters with a superkick. Lash comes back and sends Iaukea outside before following with a dive. Tenay accidentally drives home the sad shape of the cruiserweight division by noting the bigger names that are set to come back from injury soon. Iaukea gets a Dragon Screw to regain control.Lash gets a sunset flip, even after Iaukea grabs Charles Robinson in an attempt to block it. Iaukea works Lash over on the floor, then once they get back in, hits an overhead throw for a series of two counts. Paisley stands on the apron for a long time, eventually helping Iaukea block a super rana. Iaukea then wins the title with a flying DDT. Not a bad match, but there was zero heat. Iaukea is putting what he has into the new persona, but it's not clicking at all.-Norman Smiley gets the DDP Special on his injured ribs.-Mean Gene interviews Brian Knobbs. Knobbs has a broken arm thanks to Luger and his rampage. He tries to cut a babyface promo in his usual style, and fails.-A private dressing room is shown, and the crew wonder who is in there.-A video shows Finlay, as a ref, costing Knobbs the Hardcore title against Bam Bam Bigelow.-Match 2 for the Hardcore Championship: Bam Bam Bigelow [c] VS Brian Knobbs-They have a Mexican standoff right off the bat, until Finlay comes out to distract Bigelow and allow Knobbs to take control. They go over to the .Com station, then into the crowd. They go backstage, where Bam Bam slams Knobbs through a table, only to get KO'd by Finlay and his cast, which he also got courtesy of Luger. Knobbs tells Finlay to butt out, and takes Bigelow back to ringside. Knobbs slides a table into the ring, then sets it up in a corner.Knobbs tries to put Bigelow through the table, but ends up getting shoved through it. Bigelow hit the Greetings from Asbury Park, but doesn't cover Knobbs. Bam Bam grabs a chair and heads up top, stopping to throw the chair at Finlay. Knobbs knocks Bigelow outside, then hits a flying shot with his cast for the pin on the floor. This was every serious WCW hardcore match ever. Not bad, but nothing special about it.-Ric Flair gives a pep talk to Luger & Liz.-Local indy workers guard the doors of Hall & Vicious.-3 Count decide not to sing tonight, which the crowd approves of.-A video shows The Wall chokeslamming Norman through a table, giving him the injured ribs.-Match 3: 3 Count VS Norman Smiley [3-on-1 Handicap Match]-Norman actually gets the early advantage, and backdrops Moore over the top onto the other two members. 3 Count eventually get the advantage, and this settles into a handicap tag match. Shane almost spikes himself head-first into the mat, then Norman busts out the currently-popular GIANT SWING. The match stops for a dance break, then Norman gets the Norman Conquest on Moore, but Evan breaks that up. 3 Count strip Norman of his Jerry Rice jersey to some boos, then there's a 3-on-1 beatdown with Evan hitting a spinning splash, followed by a frog splash from Shane, and finished off by a Liontamer from Moore for the submission. This was pretty entertaining for what it was. This was about establishing 3 Count and having Screamin' Norman actually show some courage, and the match accomplished that.-Jeff Jarrett sends the Harris Boys to find out who is in the mystery dressing room.-Match 4: The Demon VS The Wall [special Main Event Match]-This is labeled as a "Special Main Event" because as part of WCW's contract with KISS for their use of KISS music and a gimmick based on KISS iconography, they had to put The Demon in so many main events, and this was their way of getting around that once even WCW realized the gimmick and the wrestler sucked. The Wall doesn't come out when his music hits. The Demon goes to look for him, leaving himself open to getting jumped from behind. The Wall dominates until The Demon hits a flying clothesline. The Demon goes to work with wrestling 101 offense and the crowd is already bored with this match. The Wall turns the tide with a hot shot, but gets caught going up, and almost spiked on his head with a slam. The Demon goes up, but The Wall chokeslams him down to mercifully end this one. Yeah, this one sucked. Big shock there.-Mean Gene interviews The Cat, who again claims James Brown is in the building. Cat claims that Beethoven stole his music from Little Richard, who in turn stole his stuff from James Brown.-The Harris Boys meekly pound on the door of the mystery dressing room, then quickly leave when no one answers. OOOHHHH SCARY.-Tank Abbott worms up. The crowd pops upon seeing him.-Big Al also worms up. He does not get the same reaction.-A video profiles Tank Abbott.-Match 5: Big Al VS Tank Abbott [skins Match]-"Skins" being another word for "leather jacket on a pole". They tie themselves together by their right hands via Al's belt, and trade punches. Al drops Tank with a forearm, which breaks them apart. Al teases crotching Tank on the post, then says it's "too good for him" before standing on Tank's face. Tank, for being a tough guy, was out an awful long time after one forearm. Tank fires up and KO's Al with punches before trying to climb the pole with Al on his back. Naturally, Al takes a very bad fall to the floor, and Tank grabs the jacket to win. Then, in an infamous moment, Tank pulls a knife from the jacket and holds it to Al's throat, saying "I could fucking kill you right now". Tony claims it's a pair of scissors and that Tank is threatening to cut off Al's non-existant beard. This whole thing was something else. I'll leave it at that.-Mean Gene gets some brief words from The New & Improved Harlem Heat.-A video recaps the fight for Harlem Heat.-Mean Gene interviews Booker, who says he's never crossed anyone who didn't have it coming, and that he's going to put Big T "out of the game".-Match 6 for the Rights to Harlem Heat: Big T (w/Stevie Ray & J. Biggs) VS Booker-J. Biggs is the former Clarence Mason. Booker coming out to "Leave it to Beaver/Little Rascals"-style music is actually pretty funny. Stevie distracts Booker, allowing T to get the early jump. Booker comes back with a couple suplexes, and a big forearm. Booker sends T outside where Stevie tries to get involved, but it doesn't go well for him. They get back in, and Stevie does trip up Booker, allowing T to clothesline Booker outside for a 1-1/2 on one beatdown.Booker shrugs that off and hits a Russian leg sweep, then the axe kick. Booker looks to have it won after a Harlem side kick, but Biggs gets involved and blasted by Booker. Booker hits T with the Book End, Stevie with a side kick, then T with a missile dropkick for the apparent win, but the lights go out and Midnight's gong plays. When the lights come back on, there's a huge guy I don't recognize standing on the apron. That distracts Booker long enough for T to hit the Pearl River Plunge for the pin. Biggs taunts Booker after the pin. Yeah, this wasn't good.-Mean Gene interviews The Maestro (w/Symphony a.k.a. Ryan Shamrock). The 'Stro issues a challenge to The Cat. If Cat produces James Brown, The 'Stro will listen to whatever music Brown wants to play for him, but if Brown is not there, then The Cat has to work for The 'Stro.-The Harris Twins get a maintenance guy to try to open the door to the mystery dressing room, then kick his ass when he fails.-A video recaps the Kidman/Vampiro rivalry.-Match 7: Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson) VS Vampiro-They have a pretty fast start. Vampiro hits a gutwrench suplex off the top, and follows up with a couple kicks. Vampiro tries to POWERBOMB KIDMAN, who opts to land on his feet instead of hitting the X-Factor. Torrie gets on the apron, and Kidman ends up crashing into her. Vampiro tries to hit Kidman with a chair, then Torrie when she stops him, which allows Kidman to dropkick the chair into Vampiro's face. They botch a slingshot-into-a-DVD spot, and Vampiro improvises with a snap suplex for two. Kidman hits a sky high for two, then Vampiro returns fire with a Rocker Dropper for two. Vampiro hits a missile dropkick to the back of the head, and lands on his feet. Vampiro goes up, but gets caught with a rana for two. Vampiro POWERBOMBS KIDMAN, then pulls him up and hits a pretty nice release powerbomb for two. They both go up top, and Kidman ends up hitting a fucked up looking version of a Sliced Bread #2 for the pin. Sloppiness aside, this was alright. Far short of an epic coming-out party that the crew treated this as though.-Mean Gene interviews Terry Funk, who has Dustin Rhodes with him.-Sid tells the guys guarding his door to get Mean Gene and bring him over.-David Flair, Crowbar, & Daffney walk around backstage with a stretcher.-A video recaps the Mamalukes/David & Crowbar feud.-Mean Gene interviews The Mamalukes & Disco. NO ONE makes Johnny so upset he can't eat his cheese sandwich and gets away with it.-Match 8 for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: The Mamalukes [c] (w/Disco Inferno) VS David Flair & Crowbar (w/Daffney) [sicilian Stretcher Match]-Both members of one team have to be stretchered out of the arena for this to be over. Disco joins the announce crew, which just THRILLS Madden. David puts Johnny on a stretcher and Crowbar hits Johnny with a slingshot splash. Pretty much just aimless brawling for a bit until Daffney gets involved with a rana on Johnny, after which she mases Disco when he tries to interviene. Crowbar hits a nice slam and Lionsault on Vito as Daffney continues to scream her head off.A table gets thrown in, and Vito ends up powerbombing Crowbar through it. The Mamalukes hit a double-team powerbomb on David as Disco is still blinded and has no idea what's going on. Johnny hits a really nice guillotine legdrop on David. The Mamalukes use tape (which breaks) to keep David on a stretcher, and a couple refs take him to the back, instead of making the Mamalukes do it.Crowbar wipes out both Mamalukes with a dive, then hits them with a garbage can while pulling a table out from under the ring. Johnny whacks Crowbar with a pipe before putting him on the table, and Vito takes FOREVER before jumping off the top and splashing Crowbar through the table. The Mamalukes tape Crowbar to a stretcher, then go back for Daffney. As Crowbar is taken to the back, they "tape" Daffney to a wheelchair and gag her. This was OK for what it was.-Jeff Jarrett is now suddenly not worried about who is in the mystery dressing room.-Mean Gene talks to Sid, who promises to powerbomb anyone involved in his match.-As The Cat comes out, a camera catches what appears to be Jacquelyn (who, IIRC, is still employed by the WWF at this time) dancing to his music. Cat chides the crowd for not believing him when he says James Brown is here. First he brings out an impersonator, who Madden astutely notes looks more like Al Sharpton. The Maestro & Symphony come out to collect on the bet, which brings out the real James Brown. JB & The Cat dance, and Brown gives Cat his endorsement.-Scott Hall promises to win the title tonight.-A video recaps the history between Flair & Funk.-Mean Gene interviews Naitch, who says that even though he doesn't like "the dirty stuff", he is still "the dirtiest player in the game".-Match 9: Terry Funk (w/Dustin Rhodes) VS Ric Flair [Death Match]-This is the old "10 count after a pin" style death match. They trade punches (Funk) and chops (Flair) to start. Terry tries the Spinning Toe Hold, but Flair kicks his way out. They go to the floor, where Funk hits a suplex. Funk hits a second suplex on the floor. Flair yells "OH SHIT!" into the camera before getting pinned. Flair gets up at five, and immediately goes on offense with chops and a low blow. Flair gets a plastic chair, and hits some Lance Storm-esque shots to Funk's knee. Flair gets the figure 4, and Funk gives it up quickly.Funk gets up at five, and catches Flair going up top and slams him down. Funk sends Flair outside and follows him, hitting a piledriver on the floor for two. Funk pulls back the mats, and there's another punch/chop exchange before Funk hits another piledriver for a pin. As Flair gets to his feet, Funk goes to the other side of the ring and pulls a table out from underneath the ring and sets it up inside. Funk taunts Flair over the house mic, then uses it as a weapon. Funk threatens to piledrive Flair on the table and break his neck again. Funk hits the piledriver through the table, then pulls Flair's arm up at two.Funk sets up another table and goes for a cover, which gets two. Funk puts Flair on the table and goes up top, but Flair slides off it and pulls Funk down through the table, which is enough to keep Funk down for a pin and the ten count. This is MOTN so far, even if it is weird to see two old guys try to work the "hardcore" style that was en vogue at the time and only one of them actually understands.-The mystery dressing room door is shown again, and Tony says it wasn't James Brown in there.-Mean Gene interviews Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart, who also has a broken arm), who threatens to break Liz after kicking Luger's ass.  -Match 10: Lex Luger (w/Liz) VS Hulk Hogan-Michael Buffer does the intros, but saves his catchphrase for the title match. Luger gets the early jump, but Hogan fights back. Madden is AGHAST that Hogan would cheat. They go outside, where Hogan hits a chairshot, which doesn't draw a DQ. Luger hits a back elbow, and goes back on offense. Hogan uses his cast to block a punch, then again for a clothesline before bashing Luger's head into the turnbuckle. Liz catches Hogan with a bat shot. Hogan goes after her, then cuts off Luger when he tries to take advantage.Jimmy Hart runs down to disarm Liz, and stays to watch the match. They go back inside where Luger regains control. Luger hits a suplex and calls for the Rack, but Hogan Hulks Up. Hogan hits the big boot, but stops to get his weight belt instead of hitting the legdrop, and Luger goes low. Luger tries to use the weight belt, but Jimmy hits Luger with his cast, then Hogan does the same with his before finishing with the legdrop. You should know what you're getting here.-Naitch runs out to help Luger, for a heel beatdown, but Sting makes his return and cleans his with his baseball bat.-Hall, Sid, & Jarrett come out of their dressing rooms.-Video previews the title match. So only two months in, nWo 2000 is split.-The mystery dressing room door is open.-Match 11 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Sid Vicious [c] VS United States Champion Jeff Jarrett (w/The Harris Boys) VS Scott Hall-Hall & Jarrett start the match before Sid's music even starts. Hall takes out Jarrett, then the Harris Boys. Sid gets in, and fights off a double-team attempt and the Harris Boys. All three face off, and the Harris' crotch Sid on the post while Jarrett takes over on Hall. Hall & Jarrett slug it out, leading to a ref bump that's telegraphed the whole time. Sid takes them both out with a double chokeslam, and Nick Patrick runs out, but Sid only gets two on both Jarrett and Hall. Jarrett grabs the belt and hits Sid for two. Hall & Jarrett exchange near-falls, then Jeff hits Patrick with The Stroke.Sid sends Jarrett into a chair held by the Harris' then goes after them as Charles Robinson runs out to make a two count for Hall. Jarrett takes out both Robinson and Mickie Jay, allowing Slick Johnson (who is in Jarrett's back pocket) to come out and be the ref. Hall hits Jarrett with the Outsider's Edge, and Johnson stops the count at two. Jarett hits EL KABONG on Hall, but Roddy Piper walks out, in a ref's shirt, to stop Slick Johnson from making the count and take over himself. Sid hits both Jarrett & Hall with choleslams, then finishes Hall with the powerbomb and Piper making the count. Tony posits that Piper was the man in the mystery dressing room. This was pretty much a good TV main event, but not up to snuff for a PPV main.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This is largely a bad show. Not much heat for anything, and the work in the ring is subpar. Nothing work going out of your way to see here. Oh yeah, Mark Madden is fucking terrible, in case you've forgotten.-NEXT EVENT: Uncensored 2000

A slingshot-into-a-DVD? Until I can get to a YouTube, the mind will have to boggle.

Kidman used the ropes to slingshot himself into the ring.  Vampiro caught him in the air and had him across him shoulders in the fireman carry position.  Vamps accidentally dropped him and covered by suplexing Kidman instead.

Fairly sure the guy who interfered in the Harlem Heat match was 4x4 of the No Limit Soldiers (later renamed Kash/Cash).

That sounded awful. And I saw that PPV not long after it aired because a family friend had taped it, knew I liked wrestling, and gave it to me. I wasn't watching WCW at the time and the only thing I remember from this event was Funk/Flair.

Uncensored 2000 3/19-From Miami, FL-Opening video focuses on Sting/Luger, Hogan/Flair, & Sid/Jarrett.-Team Package (Luger, Naitch, & Liz arrive).-Hogan offers to watch Sid's back. Sid tells Hogan to focus on Flair.-Jarrett & The Harris Boys talk about their "insurance policy".-A mysterious limo pulls in.-Hosts are Tony, Tenay, & Madden.-Match 1 for the Cruiserweight Championship: The Artist (Formerly Known as Prince Iaukea) [c] (w/Paisley) VS Psychosis (w/Juventud Guerrera)-Psychosis is unmasked at this point. Before they lockup, Chris Candido makes his WCW debut and joins the announce table. As Candido whines about having it tough in his career, Psychosis sends The Artist outside, and follows with a dive. Back in, Artist gets Psychosis in the Tree of Woe, and hits a running knee to the gut. Artist follows up with a nice superkick for two. The Artist controls the couple few minutes, aside from a desperation sunset flip from Psychosis. Psychosis hits a super rana for two, then a front suplex.Psychosis goes up top, but is distracted by Paisley. Juvy gives her a kiss...and she kicks his ass. Psychosis still hits the Guillotine legdrop, but stops to jaw with Paisley like a moron, allowing The Artist to hit his flying DDT to retain. This would probably have been exactly the same if they were opening Nitro instead of a PPV.-Mean Gene interviews Bam Bam Bigelow, who talks about brining The Wall into the business, and being sick because The Wall is "crippling people". Why would his protege' hurting people make BAM BAM BIGELOW sick?-Match 2: XS (the reunited Lenny & Lodi) VS The Screamin' Demons (Norman Smiley & The Demon)-Lenny & Lodi are referred to as "Lane & Rave". Miss Hancock (Stacy Keibler) comes out and joins the announce table, upset that XS don't want her as a manager. Norman is ADORABLE in his KISS garb. XS try to get the early jump, but stupidly leave Lodi with the Demon, and Lane has to make the save after a quick butterfly suplex. Lane tries a wheelbarrow on Norman, who takes the opportunity to Wiggle. Stacy talks about her new team of Silver King & El Dandy, who are to be known as "Los Fabulousos".XS work on Demon as the crowd chants for Norman. It doesn't take long for Norman to get the hot tag, but he stops to do the full-on Big Wiggle, allowing XS to counter and Lane to hit a Miz-esque Skull Crushing Finale for two, with Demon making the save. Demon takes Lane outside, and Norman gets the Norman Conquest on Lodi for the submission. REALLY abbreviated tag formula match. OK for what it was.-XS blame Stacy for the loss and try to take her away, but the Screamin' Demons make the save, and take Stacy to the ring, where everyone (including the ref) does their version of the Big Wiggle.-Booker & Kidman try to iron out the wrinkles in their alliance.-David Flair & Crowbar (both in neck braces) make Daffney promise to stay in the back.-A video recaps The Wall's Path of Destruction, which seems to be mostly David & Crowbar.-Match 3: Bam Bam Bigelow VS The Wall-Bam Bam gets the diving headbutt for two right off the bat, but The Wall fights off an attempt at Greetings from Asbury Park and takes control. Bigelow comes back with a big clothesline for two. They then go down the aisle, where The Wall chokeslams Bigelow through a table, and the ref stops the match. Another really short match.-David & Crowbar attack The Wall, who promptly takes out David. He & Crowbar fight it out, eventually ending up on a scaffold, where The Wall chokeslams him off through the stage. Both Bam Bam & Crowbar do stretcher jobs. As an attempt to really put The Wall over, it was pretty effective.-Brian Knobbs dedicates his hardcore title match to Bam Bam & Crowbar.-Match 4 for the Hardcore Championship: 3 Count [c] VS Brian Knobbs [Gauntlet Match]-Shane has a nose guard after recently suffering a broken nose. This is labeled a "Gauntlet", but is worked as an elimination handicap match. 3 Count get Knobbs down and all three hit splashes off a ladder, but stop to dance, allowing Knobbs to spray them with a fire extinguisher. Knobbs puts a chair on Shane's face then hits it with a kendo stick, and that's enough to eliminate Helms.Knobbs beats the crap out of the other two, eliminating Evan after a powerbomb over the top, through a table. Helms tries to get involved, but he gets wiped out again. Knobbs tries to slam Moore through another table in the ring, but ends up falling back-first on it, and Moore gets the pin, but with Knobbs' foot on the bottom rope. That, in a hardcore match, where falls count anywhere, is enough for a re-start. Knobbs takes them all out again, refusing Shannon's offer of being handed the title, and finishes Moore with a garbage can-assisted splash. Replay shows Helms dropkicked Moore's back when Knobs tried to slam him through the table. This was all 3 Count bumping for Knobbs, so it wasn't that bad.-Mean Gene interviews The New & Improved Harlem Heat, who say nothing of note.-Vampiro has a therapy session with the cameraman.-Match 5: Booker & Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson) VS The New & Improved Harlem Heat (w/J. Biggs & Cash)-Booker & Stevie start things, and it doesn't go well for Stevie. Kidman gets in, and Stevie counters a cross-body with a powerslam before handing things over to Big T. Kidman manages to turn the tide and tag Booker back in. Booker takes down Stevie, T, and Cash before tagging Kidman back in, and Kidman is immediately clobbered by Stevie, turning Kidman into the FIP.Cash gets involved, then T tries, and fails, to sprint through the crowd and fly over the guardrail with a clothesline. Back inside T hits a spinebuster for two, but Booker makes the save. Kidman avoids an avalanche from Stevie and hits the springboard bulldog, then makes the hot tag to Booker. Booker hits T with the ook End, then gives one to Stevie after he breaks up the cover. Booker avoids a half-hearted attempt at a double clothesline, but runs right into a crappy double-team spinebuster. Kidman makes the save, then on the outside runs Cash into Stevie. Booker tries to suplex T but can't. Kidman flies in with a sunset flip attempt, and Booker hits T with the Harlem Side Kick to complete the move and get the pin. This was a decent enough tag formula match.-EARLIER TONIGHT: The Wall chokeslams Bam Bam Bigelow through a table, then kills Crowbar.-A video recaps the Finlay/Vampiro feud.-Tenay says that Bam Bam & Crowbar both have concussions. Bam Bam also has a dislocated shoulder, while Crowbar has cracked ribs and a bruised hip.-Match 6: Fit Finlay VS Vampiro [Falls Count Anywhere]-They both have casts on one arm, which would make them both Luger victims. Finlay gets the early jump, but Vampiro comes back with a spin kick, then follows up with a spinning heel kick off the top. Vampiro pounds on Finlay with chops, kicks, and punches. Finlay regains control, and hits a Finlay Roll before rolling outside and grabing a chair. Finlay put the chair on Vampiro's face then climbs the turnbuckles, but Charles Robinson pulls the chair away. Finlay stops to argue with Robinson, allowing Vampiro to hit a kick and make a comeback. They go outside, where Finlay drops Vampiro chin-first onto the guardrail. They then go into the crowd and up a flight of steps. They go backstage, and into a men's room. They fight into the stalls. Vampiro tries jumping off the top of one, but gets clobbered with a metal trash can on the way down. They go back out into the common area then outside the building, where of course there are a bunch of fans getting in the way.The lighting in that area gives everything a red tint, which makes for an interesting look. Finlay hits a backdrop, but accidentally punches a concrete pillar, allowing Vampiro to hit the Nail in the Coffin for the pin.-As everyone files back into their seats, a fan that may be Roderick Strong is one of the ones that yells into the camera.-Jarrett & The Harris Twins talk about getting their belts.-A video hypes the Mamalukes/Harris Twins tag title match.-Mean Gene interviews The Mamalukes, who vow to break the thumbs of The Harris Twins.-Match 7 for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: The Mamlukes [c] (w/Disco Inferno) VS The Harris Twins [No DQ]-Disco joins the announce table and bitches about not being paid for doing it. The Mamlukes control the early going until one of the twins hit Vito with a low blow. That doesn't last long, and the champs hit a double-team hiptoss-into-a-powerbomb for two. The twins regain control soon after, and Johnny plays FIP. Vito gets the hot tag and the champs clean house, leading to a top rope elbow from Vito for two.The twins hit a double flapjack on Johnny for two. Disco gets in, and cracks one of the twins with a title belt for two. Disco stupidly left the belt in the ring, allowing the twins to use it to take everyone out, and finish Vito with the H-Bomb to win the titles. OK, if unmemorable tag formula stuff.-Finlay gives credit to Vampiro for winning their match, and tells Vampiro to keep it going.-Mean Gene interviews Team Package. They promise to do bad things to Sting & Hogan.-A video recaps the Dustin/Funk feud. The seriousness of the feud gets a little undermined when Terry uses an uncooked chicken to KO Dustin.-Dustin promises to beat on Funk until Funk acknowledges him as "The American Nightmare".-Match 8: Dustin Rhodes VS Terry Funk [bullrope Match]-Terry has a chicken with "DUSTIN" written on it and brings out Dustin's "baby brother". It's not Cody, but a guy in a chicken suit. Dustin fights the chicken suit guy until Funk hits him with the ultra-devastating CHICKEN PUNCH. Terry kicks the shit out of Dustin, and hits a DDT for two. Terry then clobbers Dustin with the cowbell for two. Terry stops to argue with the ref, which allows Dustin to hit a low blow to get his first offense. Dustin wraps the rope around Terry's neck and throws him down by it. Dustin uses the cowbell to knock Terry outside, then do it again on the floor.Dustin finally attaches the bullrope to both guys wrists, and hits a DDT for two. Dustin grinds the cowbell into Terry's forehead, then hits a bulldog for two. Terry is busted open by that. The chicken suit guy runs in, and Tony is amused as hell by the sound effects that accompany him. Dustin beats the shit out of the chicken, but Terry crotches him on the top rope and makes him ride it. Terry gets on the house mic and says this is now an "I Quit" match. The ref tries to tell him he can't do that, and Terry KO's the ref. Terry pounds on Dustin's forehead with the cowbell until Dustin quits. The ref won't declare Terry the winner, and that distraction allows Dustin to make a comeback and piledrive Terry on the cowbell for the pin. The action was pretty good, but I have no idea what the heel/face alignment was supposed to be for this. The pre-match video and Madden cheering for Dustin would indicate he's the heel, but they both acted like heels during the match.-Mean Gene interviews Sid, who is not worried about anything Jarrett has in store for tonight.-A video recaps the Sting/Luger feud.-Match 9: Lex Luger (w/Liz) VS Sting [Lumberjack Match]-The lumberjacks are all the guys who have had their arms broken by Luger. Luger insincerely apologizes for breaking all their arms, then brings out his own lumberjacks, which are heels with casts on their arms.Sting beats the crap out of Luger to start. He eventually throws Luger to the face lumberjacks, and Tony is greatly amused by the sight of Doug Dillinger going after Luger. Luger takes control and sends Sting into the heel lumberjacks. Tank Abbott walks out for the sole reason of KO'ing Dillinger. As the faces help him, the heels go after them, and it's a big fight, with only Vampiro remaining as a lumberjack.Ric Flair comes out, and with the help of Liz, takes care of Vampiro. Flair attacks Sting, who no-sells that attack. Sting takes care of Flair and hits the Stinger Splash on Luger, but Liz sneaks in and hits a bat shot on Sting. Jimmy Hart returns and brings her to the back. Luger gets two off the bat shot and gets the Rack, but Vampiro slides in and hits Luger across the back with a bat, and that allows Sting to hit the SDD for the pin. As a match it wasn't much, but as revenge on Luger, it was pretty good. Sting & Vampiro celebrate, planting the seed of their feud.-Tank says he KO'd Dillinger because Dillinger is trying to take his money.-A video recaps the Sid/Jarrett feud.-Someone exits the mystery limo.-Match 10 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Sid [c] VS United States Champion Jeff Jarrett (w/Ladies)-Tony doesn't know why this match is happening now. Jeff teases letting the girls strip, but then says that has to wait until he wins the title.Sid controls with some comically bad punches. Jarrett counters a chokeslam by going to the eyes, and they go outside. Sid slams Jarrett on the announce table, which doesn't break. Sid sends Jarrett into the crowd, and they fight out there.  Sid dominates the match, so The Harris Twins get involved and double-team Sid in the ring while Jarrett distracts Nick Patrick. Jarrett gets a sleeper, and it takes a while to almost put Sid out. Sid counters a double axe handle into an atomic drop, which is a pretty slick move for him.One of the Harris Twins grabs the title belt and gets on the apron, but it backfires when Sid sends Jarrett into the belt, and that gets two. Jarrett counters a chokeslam with a low blow, bumps Nick Patrick, and hits EL KABONG on Sid. Jarrett calls out Slick Johnson, but Hulk Hogan breaks up the pin, takes out Johnson, The Harris Twins, and Jarrett, hitting Jarrett with the legdrop and putting Sid on top for the pin. Not much of a world title match, and the finish does nothing for anyone but Hogan.-Scott Steiner makes his return and attacks Hogan with a guitar, and beats him down, revealing himself to be the "insurance policy". Well, he wasn't a very effective one.-Match 11: Hulk Hogan VS Ric Flair [strap Match]-This is of the "touch all four corners" variety. Flair jump starts the match and almost gets a quick win, but Hogan revives just in time and engages in his favorite pasttime: beating the shit out of Ric Flair. Flair goes to the eyes and makes his comeback, at one point putting part of the strap in Hogan's mouth. Hogan goes low, then no-sells some chops (prompting an "OH GOD I'M SORRY" from Flair) before going back on offense.Flair blades (because why not), and Hogan lets Jimmy Hart gets some licks in after Flair whipped Jimmy on Thunder. They fight onto the ramp, where Luger comes out and clocks Hogan on the top of the head with a chair. Hogan is busted open off that, and Flair works on the open wound. They get back in the ring, and Flair chokes Hogan until Jimmy pulls Flair off, then Flair KO's Little Jimmy. Flair touches three corners, but can't drag Hogan to the fourth.Flair gets the international object from his boots and KO's Hogan. Flair tries to pin Hogan, and the ref counts two despite pins not being legal. That's only a set up so Hogan can Hulk Up, fight off Luger, hit the legdrop for a pin (WHY?), then touch the fourth corner. This was every Flair-Hogan match ever, complete with a nonsensical finish that only serves to show how dominant Hogan is over Flair.-FINAL THOUGHTS: While not as bad as some of the other Uncensored shows, this wasn't particularly good either. Their were way too many nothing matches on this show to make it worthwhile. I can't imagine this show did any kind of decent buyrate, given the weakness of the card.-NEXT EVENT: Spring Stampede 2000
