Yeah,  but Alley made the classic mistake of being a woman asking Gene for more of anything.

Just finished up S2 of Prodigy. Thought the first season was pretty solid by the end despite occasional annoying moments. Thought S2 stepped things up tremendously across the board from the stakes, character relationships/growth, and just that general feel of Trek despite being a big focused story season. Pretty damn good overall and I will be sad if/when they announce no season 3.

Spoiler

Was nice to see Chakotay and the Doc though I wish we had more Voyager cameos. Was not expecting Wesley Crusher next big story to be in Prodigy. He was in so much of this so it was good to get a proper follow up on him after just the occasional mentions and/or cameos in other series. Dig him finally seeing Beverly again at the end along with meeting little Jack. I really hope we get a proper Legacy series to see them meet and connect as adults for an episode or two. Loved the Cerritos getting a call out early on in the season.

I really liked how things ended

Spoiler

with the Mars attack during the Romulan evacuation. That was surprising, but I kind of dug where it left Starfleet and the Prodigy crew. Makes me curious if there would have been some exploration over what happened and if the tech in Prodigy is what was used for by Nero to go back in time and set up the Kelvin universe of films.

They did well creating an good ending if no more seasons happen while also leaving plenty open to explore if they get more.

I binged S2 of Prodigy this week. It's really good. It's not only a "kids" Star Trek show, but it's a Voyager sequel, especially this season. My nephew is 13 and he loves it. I have my doubts that Netflix will go ahead with a S3, but I sure hope so.

Same, after that ending I want/need a Season 3 as bad as I need Star Trek Legacy after Picard S3.

Star Trek's 5 and 6, a dissertation:

Boy howdy, 5 was a mess, but I have a habit of digging into stories and wiki entries and oral histories about classic things as I watch them, to give me a perspective.  5 was pretty much panned at the time, it was not liked.  This is admittingly the first time I've watched it in a LONG time, honestly, I can't remember the last time I watched it start to finish, probably since it's run on cable.  It's initial run on cable back in the 80's.  Anytime I went and watched the other movies, I skipped it because I remember not liking it.  So... watching it and knowing about all the issues it had behind the scenes, I can say that it wasn't as bad as I remember.  The story was a Trek story, but you can really tell the drop off from Meyer's punching up the story because he couldn't do it.  The result was Loughery trying overly hard to recreate the charm 4 had with the dialogue and failing, because most of the time it was Kirk/Spock/McCoy being too cute by half and nothing really clicked.  The down grade because ILM was overtasked at the time so they had to have another Effects house do 5's effects really hurt, with alot of it being stop motion that was really out of sync with the rest of the movie.  It's not great, but the bones were there for a good movie, it just didn't pan out, and if you had like, Meyer actually write teh script and not Shatner directing and ILM doing the effects and the budget not getting nuked mid-filming, it probably would've worked all around, as the story really was Trek-y.

6 was great, and as interesting as I remember.  More so when you see that the Valeris character was intended to be Saavik initially but Alley wanted too much money and for Saavik to not be bad, and even after getting Kattral, who DID audition for Saavik, balk at her being bad necessitating a new character.  This was pretty much Trek as it's height, as the story was pretty much a "what if the Wall fell in space" since the Klingon's were always analogues to the Soviet Union in TOS, along with Trek taking a headlong dive into geopolitics and racism.  You can present the Federation/Klingon relations as political, with sides not trusting one another, but it was blatant that there was a huge story about racial relations involved.  Shit, during the dinner scene the Klingon's outright called the crew out on it.  This is reinforced when you look deeper into behind the scenes and how much Nichols and Peters had to go through to deal with their lines, with Nichols refusing the "guess who's coming to dinner" references and Peters needing multiple takes for the briefing scene.  And the whole conspiricy to tank the negotiations played on Kirk and Spock's bigotry.  6 was Trek at it's finest.  And you can't go wrong with Plummer blowing everyone out of the water and showing Shatner how it's done with going full HAM.

5 and 6 both ended up using redressed TNG sets for budget, and you can pick some out, especially in the corridors of 5 and the dining hall of 6.  My random geek nitpick for 5 is suddenly the Enterprise A had 65 decks or something, and for 6 it's that everyone kept announcing Valeris' rank as Lieutenant, despite her rank insignia being Lt. Commander, and by then we're 3 seasons into TNG and every Lt. Commander there is being called Commander (as well as pretty much all actual military doing that)  but its minor.

So, done with the Original Cast era of Trek (although I do technically have the opening of Generations left), and it's on to TNG.

The final season of Lower Decks has been fantastic. I'm going to really miss the show, it's been my favorite new Star Trek. It's so funny and such a love letter to all things Trek. This weeks part 1 of the final 2 parter was wild. T'Pol, Curzon Dax, married couple Garek and Holo Bashir, Lilly Sloan , and a gaggle of Harry Kims? Amazing.

Becky in Academy feels so random.

Going to watch it, but Academy still annoys me since it will be in Discovery's later timeline. And its clearly taking quite a bit of money to put together.  Can't help but wonder if something like Lower Decks would have continued if not for it.

The series finale of Lower Decks was amazing. It's my favorite last episode of any Star Trek show.  I've watched it twice already and both times I cried with joy.

Watched the finale with my older brother earlier in the night. That was fantastic and a joy to see from beginning to end. Probably the best finale just within Lower Decks in general. Going to miss this show.

Watched the Red Letter Media review for Section 31 and while these guys usually crap on most things, I'm almost always on board with them knowing that Kurtzman doesn't have his finger on the pulse for nu Trek and the only good nu Trek is Picard season 3 and SNW.

From their description, this Section 31 show sounds like fucking garbage.

It's terrible. It's a typical , dumb action movie with bad one liners and unbelievably bad dialogue.

I'd add Lower Decks and Prodigy to the list with SNW and Picard S3 . I loved both shows, and my nephew who's been exposed to Trek his whole life, but never cared, loves them as well.

Edit: I actually enjoyed Discovery for the most part. S2 is the best season of it, mainly because of Pike. But the later seasons in the far future had some great highs admist all of the dealing with trauma and feelings stuff that took the place of any character development for the bridge crew

I'm holding out  hope that this will get them to give up on anything that's not SNW and just do Legacy since that's what the fans have been screaming for since Picard ended with Seven of Nine as Captain of the fucking Enterprise.

I caught Section 31 last Saturday. The opening was good. Some of the character moments surrounding Phillipa was decent as well. Still the plot was messy and more personal than necessary. One of the main villains was cartoony as fuck personailty wise as well. That is fine for a comedy like Lower Decks but not a more serious Trek series/film.

I was more disappointed than angry. Probably is the worst thing from modern Trek when comparing wholes though there have certainly been worse episodes from old and modern Trek and probably worse movies as well. Discovery in particular annoyed the shit out of me numerous times despite some great moments and ideas.

Sadly that won't happen due to the stupid amount of money they are putting into Star Trek Academy. We basically have to hope that does well just for other shit to even get a shot, and too much time will have probably passed for that to happen if it does. It being so tied to Discovery give me serious doubts on quality and success. The better stuff in modern Trek seems to be the stuff Kurtzman has the least involvement with.

Paramount announced that Strange New Worlds is greenlit to Season 5.  Which will also be the last season.  I'm guessing by end end of S5 all the characters that weren't on TOS will be phased out and replaced by the characters they have yet to introduce (Which at this point is only really Sulu, McCoy, and possibly Rand.  And probably Chekov if they're not doing a redo of TOS.)

I imagine we won't get anything about Legacy or a possible TOS redo until we see how Academy pans out.

I'm ok with it ending at S5. Doesn't need to go too deep and we still have 3 seasons to get there.
