WRESTLING ON THE INTERNET NOT FROM THE NOW

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

I think the owner of that YouTube channel got their hands on a huge "Best of the 80s" compilation pack (of discs? VHS tapes? I dunno) and is going to be going through them, upscaling and adding subtitles for a while. They made a new YouTube channel just for that series:

https://www.youtube.com/@Kadaveri80sJoshi

But right now it looks like that's the only video on the channel so far. BUT as soon as I saw that it was uploaded, I ran here to post it, on the "DEAN~! would have loved this (he would also have probably already seen most of it)" principle.

I dunno. If you look at the old DVDVRs there aren't a lot of '80s joshi reviews. It mostly goes from real early stuff like Jackie Sato straight to Chigusa/Dump, and then '90s with nothing in between. He might have missed a bunch of stuff.

But... probably not haha. At least from what was available then anyway.

Every now and again, one of these rewatches gives me a true gem. This is one of them. Bonus: Dusty's commentary.

Such love. That is incredibly sweet, especially for someone with... that... acronym as his personal handle. I wonder how his kid has dealt with it.

That match is incredible, too.

Kox was, by all accounts, a decent, gentle man without a racist bone in his body (at least by the standards of a white guy born in the 30s), he just figured out a killer gimmick that could travel all over the world.

Murdoch, on the other hand, was a real piece of shit.

And if you want to make yourself sad go to Cagematch and look at the Kox/Murdoch matches that happened all over the south and never made tape.

Time for May 1997 WCW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQRD3Kr77Yo

Only half as much of WCW Saturday Night as usual as the Braves are playing. Lots of talk about the NWO disrespecting JJ Dillon and WCW on Nitro. La Parka has a cool looking jacket but jobs to Chris Jericho's missile dropkick. Jacqueline and the Taskmaster have words. Meng talks! Konnan and Hugh Morrus vs the Steiners at Slamboree (also Mongo vs Reggie White). Nitro will be one hour earlier than usual due to the NBA Playoffs. Kidman looking like a clean cut nice Italian boy before his Flock stint. Kidman hits all of his offense until he misses a move and Rey Mysterio beats him with a rana. So Lee Marshall just took Chris Cruise's Road Report segment and made it a lot better? NWO RACING IS BACK (Kyle Petty finishes 4th). One day 911 looks like a monster in ECW, the next day Big Al looks barely taller than Chris Benoit. Taskmaster runs out to fight with Benoit. Meng hits Benoit with an audacious looking kick to the back of the head. Meng lays out a few Saturday Night jobbers dumb enough to try jumping Meng. Jeff Jarrett's goofy white outfit looks more fitting when you realize how it matches up with Debra's pageant queen dress. Jeff Jarrett works the leg and wins as a result. Mean Gene hotline plugs: Big name from wrestling is making the biggest comeback since George Foreman (Hennig?), a recent internet story said a prominent wrestling name is dead but he's alive (Steve DiSalvo?), and more, on the Hotline. Meng squashes Roadblock quickly. Topx Magazine TV show plug. Our feature bout tonight: Craig Pittman takes on Scotty Riggs. Scotty Riggs was still using the American Males music 6 months after the team broke up. Scotty Riggs gets the win to establish the pecking order of WCW enhancement talent.

Uploaded by... WWE?

Apparently they own the Dragon Gate USA library, and put this on their new WWE Vault YouTube page.

Youtube backstage politicking?

I just looked at one of these, saw it was from "NJPW Supporter" with his own pro logo, and yeah that's gotta be a socko account from them.

I went searching through YouTube and compiled a playlist of as many WWF Tag Team Title change matches from 1973-1990 that I could find on there (31 of them). Some are clips; most are intact.

(The first video is listed again at #4 because there's a second title change match in the same video.)
