KILLING GUNTHER

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tarran Killiam

This is available on demand now, and it's fun as hell. Watch it all the way through the credits. Trust me. Be warned though, Arnold is only in the last 20 minutes or so of the movie

The A Star is Born remake (starring Bradley Cooper (who is also directing) and Lady Gaga) has been moved from its Sept 2018 release date up to May 18, 2018

I, Tonya (the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding movie), which was mentioned earlier this thread (since Margo Robbie is playing Harding), will be released Dec 8, 2017. (Hollywood Reporter is making a big deal out of how this is making it Oscar eligible)

I like how Warner Bros. was willing to sacrifice the Melissa McCarthy film a week after Infinity War Part 1 and gave the better spot to the Lady Gaga film. Now that's priority.

I think that is more about Bradley Cooper not wanting to compete with himself since he directs A Star Is Born and has a prominent role in Infinity War.

I think that was more about Bradley Cooper looking at the release schedule and saying, "No fucking way," since IW will suck in all money around that time and he'd be competing with himself since he is reprising his role as Rocket in Infinity War.

Well, it would make more sense to keep it in September then unless he wants all his media obligations within a 2-3 week span. Otherwise, he is still competing with himself.

Bradley will probably be put on his rounds through the talks and he will make a big deal about directing in one hot movie and having a role in another.

That's probably how he will meet some of his media obligations for both projects and attempt combat some of the self competition..

The move from September to May is fairly calculated since A Star Is Born is obviously different in genre from IW and can drag in Summer Blockbuster customers looking to go and see something other than a superhero movie.  It could make a decent amount of money on overflow audience alone if the reviews don't suck.

Or it could overshadow it which is something you don't want to happen for your directorial debut.

Crazy ass Dice Clay is going to play Gaga's father and Chapelle is playing a dude named Noodles and of course, Lady Gaga is in this thing.

It will only overshadow if WB does not fully commit to the marketing and on the horrible chance that the movie sucks.

Based on the last three years or so of summer movies, I think there is a strong possibility of that. It also doesn't help that the Han Solo film is the very next week. Maybe it's a sleeper hit with that ensemble, but the likelihood is it's kinda gone and forgotten a few weeks later. Moreover, Warner Bros. has to market that Melissa McCarthy film as well as the all female Ocean Eleven's film that comes out not too long after A Star is Born. That's three films in five weeks. With the luck of these studios with trying to get back-to-back hits, at least one of those films is going to die a horrendous death.

I don't think "Bradley Cooper directing" vs "Bradley Cooper in a voiceover role that people outside the fanboy bubble don't even think about" is considered him competing with himself on any level.  I don't think anyone's going to look at both films and make hard choices based on Bradley Cooper's offscreen involvement.

Damn, I forgot about the female Ocean's 11 film, which feels like it's been in the can for years now.

Both of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies made a shit ton of money and Rocket was arguably one of the better elements of both films, so you can go and tell Cooper that Rocket is just a voiceover role. :)

After that, you can try to convince Andy Serkis that Caesar was mocap and CGI.

Cooper has a stake in both movies doing well.  One will increase his director profile and the other is a steady paycheck.

Sadly, I think that the Melissa McCarthy movie will get savaged by the RT reviewer elite unless it turns out to be surprisingly good like Spy was.  If it really sucks, it will be obliterated by Infinity War.

Ergo, I'd invest in raising the profile of A Star Is Born so that it if it turns out to be good, it can make money as the "go and see this while your kids are watching Infinity War again" choice.

Or in my boo's case it will be the "I can watch this while my nerd hubby is geeking out to Thanos" alternative.

More people will probably see it here:

IT: CHAPTER 2 will be released on 9/6/2019

No one checks the Horror thread but me, Fowler, Roman, and Curt.   Fowler has already posted the new release date for IT! Chapter 2.

It's a 10 year old Melissa McCarthy movie, so it'll likely be something more than "Lookit the fat lady do a pratfall" stuff McCarthy did for a while.

That's a lot of words substituting for "not very funny."

Absotively true.

Caught Kingsman: The Golden Circle last night. Less suitporny than the previous film, but still fun. Could've done without 24 minutes of previews and Dolby commercials. Although it did talk me into going to see my first Tom Cruise movie in a theatre since M:I 2

The trailers for American Made really do strike me as an "I'm sorry, guys," from Cruise for making The Mummy.

Sophia Bouttella has already offered me an apology for being in The Mummy by making out with Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde.

I'd go to see Atomic Blonde at the second-run theatre tonight, but instead I'm going to a Josie & The Pussycats screening in Los Angeles. The directors, Rachel Leigh Cook, and Tara Reid will be there. And Kay Hanley (from Letters to Cleo, as well as Josie's singing voice) will be doing a set before the film.

That sounds pretty awesome!  Not only is the Kay Bayley soundtrack for the movie pretty awesome, but the film itself is the most brilliant scathing social critique on rampant consumer marketing ever filmed.

It also helps that Rosario Dawson and Rachel Leigh Cooke were also hot like lava in that movie.  I hope RLC has aged well and is just as adorable now as she was back then.
