Death From Above
Corey Perry is so awful. I wish he was on my team.
Niners Fan in CT
I'm now cheering for the Wings. You see what you've done to me fake Bruins fans?
Jiji
How do people cheer for a team with Marchand on it? And Lucic's antics last night are pretty much the norm of Bruins playoff hockey. Fuck them.
Death From Above
As long as people also turn on the Blues after one of their players tried blatantly to break Toews' ankle at the end of the second period of game 1. I know it's Hitchcock so no surprise, but still. It was way worse than the groin spear, though because that's Boston it will get way more PR. Both guys should be suspended, but this is the NHL so good luck with that. FSW isn't wrong that in the playoffs this becomes a truly inexplicable league. Other than the dirtyness, the games have been great though. There's not much in sports to compare with round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

You have mentioned this twice, which is more 2 more times then any Blackhawk fans I've encountered have mentioned it. I watched the play, it was accidental, and far from "trying to blatantly break his ankle". Try again.
Jiji
Perry also speared Benn in the nards last night, though not with the same gusto as Lucic. Between those two incidents and Quenneville's antics this first round has been balls. Seriously, though, first round of the NHL playoffs is the best period to be a sports fan. You kind of complain outloud how annoying it is that you have three games on at the same time but deep down it's the best shit. White people problems. Death From Above
Bruce Arthur @bruce_arthur 2m Update: The cost of grabbing your balls in the NHL is $25,000. The cost of spearing a guy in the balls is apparently $5,000. You can't write jokes as good as the real world provides.
Charlie M.
Part of that is CBA related, though. They capped fines on players. There's no cap on what you can fine a coach. On Corey Perry, I liked how the refs just let Trevor Daley basically ground and pound him for a little bit before doing anything. If that's Teemu under there, they're tackling Daley to get him to stop. What did the Oilers get for Cogliano again? Seems like a smaller guy they could actually use because he's a really good penalty killer.
Robert
For as much money as DeKeyser makes ($925,000 via capgeek) - he may as well just return the favor to Lucic in the next game if it's only going to cost him $5,000.
Jiji
Oil traded Cogliano for a 2nd round pick (Marc-Olivier Roy). I was thinking the same thing how valuable he'd be for Edmonton now. He's had a few really solid seasons in Anaheim.

The problem is he'd probably get caught and get a major penalty. The fact that Lucic managed to do it without being seen by a ref was pretty lucky. Robert
Man I am loving STL/CHI. They're not just hitting, they're hitting to hurt. Surprised Oshie survived getting run over by Bollig.
Tabe
I was 100% confident that Lucic would not be suspended for the spear. The NHL has a long history of not suspending guys for offenses committed against the Wings. Goes back to Malkin's automatic suspension in the Finals being overturned for no apparent reason and continues through this season with Datsyuk getting concussed by a blatant elbow with no suspension. A repeat offender like Lucic not being suspended for a blatant attempt to injure? Par for the course.

Interested in your thoughts on Thomas Holmstrom's act of intentionally falling on goalies trying to break their legs about once every career playoff game, and on the years Chris Chelios played for the heroic Red Wings. If you could also add some thoughts on Shanahan, Konstantinov, Kronwall, McCarty, Draper, Premeau, Probert, and Bertuzzi that would also be excellent. I mean, it's not like it's news NHL discipline is a joke, but the Red Wings of all teams crying foul based on historical precedent is the worst revisionist history.

Jiji
NHL playoff barbarism at its finest. The knee on knee followed by that hit.
Dewar
Backes is normally the guy applying the shitty hits. It's like feeling bad for Ulf Samuellson, I can't muster up much sympathy for him.

Dewar
Backes "accidentally" kneeing Matt Stajan: Hell, Backes got tossed from a playoff game for headhunting one of the Sedins back in 2009. If I can track down video of that, I'll post it.
Jiji
Yeah, Backes is in the second or third tier of shithouses. He's over aggressive and "plays on the edge" but isn't as bad as Lucic. He's similar to but not quite as dirty as Dustin Brown.
