Brysynner Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Full Sail has proven once again Eva Marie is the top heel in NXT. When you can't even cut a promo because the crowd won't be quiet you're doing something right. So which dirty heel trick does Eva win the title tomorrow? Nia Jax interference? Eva winning clean? Eva winning with heel ref? Eva winning after a botch?
Patrick B. Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Weird comparison, but I feel the same way as I did when they set up Kane defending the I-C Title against Albert back in 2001. "You're putting the belt on him, we all know you're putting the belt on him, so just do it and get it over with."
GuerrillaMonsoon Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Can't say I'm too concerned. That main event was a trainwreck. Doubt Mary Kate will be asked back any time soon. Looked like she really hammered it in.
JonnyLaw Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I love the metaness of Eva in NXT. This is a classic example of a Heyman-esque making the most of out someone limited, and yet people are wise to it, so they're booing, yet in booing they're getting it even more over, leading other people to critique their response.
Patrick B. Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 She's not just the coolest, not just the best, she's all red everything. 2

This is the first thing I thought of. As much as I hate Eva, I wanted to give props to the very Heyman-esque booking of making chicken salad out of chicken shit. I'm hoping Nia Jax ethers Eva.
Overly Critical Man Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Eva is gonna hold that title longer than Honkey Tonk held the IC title. 2
Buy Me a Burrito Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I kind of want to see Eva beat Asuka just for the meltdown that will follow. 1
Patrick B. Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 It's a weird sort of old-school Wrestling 101 mentality: Heels are heels BECAUSE they (kayfabe) suck in the ring and need to cheat to win.
odessasteps Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Or they are good enough to win but cheat because they are lazy and or insecure.
TimLivingston Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Playing off the fact someone can't wrestle as a heel tactic is brilliant for NXT. Those fans are as fickle as can be anyways. Jordan's starting to get it. Gable already does, but Jordan's getting close to being his equal. Great to pair them up. So weird to have Emma squash someone who worked Evolve shows as a monster heel like that.
Trocar Slush Weasel Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 It's a weird sort of old-school Wrestling 101 mentality: Heels are heels BECAUSE they (kayfabe) suck in the ring and need to cheat to win. That is ideal, but they were actually pushing her as a face for a while. And I don't think she's clearly cheated yet unless you count the blown kick-out. I was hoping when they decided to acquiesce and have her go heel, she would turn up the cheating but that still hasn't happened yet.
RIPPA Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 I am shocked there isn't any Ready Willing Gable gear yet to buy (unless I have missed it)
Overly Critical Man Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 The heel that doesn't really cheat, but somehow is able to pull wins out of their ass through inexplicable luck and then goes on to brag about it like they're the greatest thing sinced sliced bread(#2) is just as infuriating as the heel that cheats. Possibly even moreso.
Ramsey Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 The Honky Tonk analogy is what I've been thinking the whole time. I remember seeing the Honky Tonk Man beat Steamboat the week it happened. My brother and I just knew that Ricky would win in a walk and we'd go about our Saturday. We were shocked that Honky won, we were pissed because he cheated, and we hated him because he was a charismatic shit talker and could play cowardly heel about as well as anyone ever. In the 21st century, things are different. Here, we all see what's coming. We'll hate Eva for cheating to win, but then we'll hate her because she doesn't have the charisma or, quite frankly, the verbal skills to do the rest of the heel gig. She'll start with heel heat and finish with "you suck heat." However, in the end, we'll still get the chase program because, well, that's what you do with a heel champ.
Niners Fan in CT Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I was too young to remember when Undertaker debuted but you go back and watch the matches they were fucking awful. But I remember enjoying him anyway. I loved the character and the things they would do with him with the vignettes and backstage stuff. It was quite a while before Undertaker started having matches that were more than choke, choke, sit up, choke. Some will find this to be a weird comparison because we're talking about Eva but I feel like there is a bit of a double standard. That's the main thing I want to address. I'm not saying people here do this but I've found that even if a male wrestler sucks and the matches suck, if the story is a story worth telling wrestling fans will still get into it. Not everything is about workrate. Unless you're one of those hyper ROH fans then I guess everything is about workrate. It seems to me like if a female has no potential to be a great worker then some feel they shouldn't even be a character or be in the ring.
Tromatagon Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I feel like male or female, and no matter what role you're in, you should actually already be good at your job to be wrestling on television, let alone in the #1 wrestling promotion in the world. Anything else is fucking embarrassing to the business. Mean Mark was already awesome before he was The Undertaker. 1
Ramsey Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Does Bayley losing mean a call-up? I'd bet money on it. Mind you, I think a chase program and Bayley becoming a 2 time champ would be fantastic, I don't see it happening.
Niners Fan in CT Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I don't watch a lot of Mean Mark but those early Taker matches.....yikes
Trocar Slush Weasel Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I don't watch a lot of Mean Mark but those early Taker matches.....yikes I remember randomly watching the Taker vs Hogan title match from This Tuesday in Texas on the Network and I'm not exaggerating when I say half of the moves were eye rakes.
Infinit Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I think that was more Taker committing to wrestling as a slow, methodical zombie. Totally fits the character back then if you think about it. 2
JCM Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Does Bayley losing mean a call-up? Why would they call Bayley up when they won't put Sasha on tv for being more over than the women they want to push? It'll be ever worse with Bayley. I hope it means Sasha and Becky come back to NXT. 1
Goodear Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 What I'm learning from this thread and most of the talk with this thread and around the web is that people are very much invested in Eva Marie not winning the title. Sounds like a win to me. Nia Jax verse Carmella Carmella for being a super nice person is just not a great face. She needs more stuff to fill her time as what she has now just isn't working all that effectively. Nia is effective in her roll although I think she was mildly inconsistent from her past matches where you can see a very specific shift from when she's just bouncing someone around and when she is done playing around. However, I think the smile coming out of the hurricanrana attempt was a great visual that was an effective narrative choice. I would like to see this be her heel character rather than to have her cheat really for diversity's sake. She's the heel because she's bigger than everyone else and has a mean streak. Let Dana Brooke pull hair and poke eyes. Jason Jordan & Chad Gable verse Ascension I actually liked that JJ and Gable didn't go into their super slick matwork section here as it came off like Konnor and Viktor just weren't letting them take the Ascension down. It really looked like the Ascension was enjoying being over to some extent although they can't keep coming down to job out and go back to the main roster. I feel bad for the Ascension because they obviously don't have what it takes to make it on the main roster but weren't going to grow anymore in NXT. Its the case of a team hitting a low ceiling and maxing out. Emma verse Mary Kate Obviously building up Emma to feed to Asuka, I think Mary provided a good visual difference from the average. Emma is just plain mean in these squashes and I'm looking forward to her actually putting Asuka in some jeopardy. You can't just keep Asuka just rolling over the entire roster too easily or you will run out of stuff for her to do in two months. The curb stomp set up for the Emma lock is just full of spite. I'm so glad they put some heat on Emma here. Dash and Dawson verse Hollis & Skylar Super effective squash showing off the two things D&D do which is tear a person apart with limb work and taking them out with the Shatter Machine out of no where. I found this to be a really effective squash that showed off both things in quick succession. The limb work was just long enough that it felt excessive without becoming dull and that is a fine line to walk. Dawson would be a great second banana to a main heel. Bayley verse Alexa Bliss I think the moment was a bit too big for Bliss. She doesn't have the stuff to fill out a main event match yet. I have a real pet peeve with guys kicking out of roll ups and playing like it took a major toll on them which Bayley did from the corner sunset flip. So no points for her. Bayley just seemed off here working as the top face. She's going to be in a better spot working Jax or someone else as a underdog. I did LOVE the finish where Bayley just slugs Alexa and hits the Bayley-to-Blissy. I really liked that it didn't come out of a big comeback but as a cut off/out of nowhere spot. 1
Cristobal Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Nia Jax verse Carmella Jason Jordan & Chad Gable verse Ascension Emma verse Mary Kate Dash and Dawson verse Hollis & Skylar Bayley verse Alexa Bliss *coughtrollcough* 2
