Pete
During the Victory/Tatum feud, Sebastian was taunting Victory with pizza boxes because Victory and Tatum were feuding over the pizza business they'd started together or some such nonsense. In this one match, Sebastian (I think) grabs Victory so Tatum can hit him. Victory moves, Tatum hits Sebastian who goes flying a good 7-8 feet off the apron, through the guardrail (if he'd actually hit it he would've hurt himself very badly) and into the crowd. Just an amazing bump that gets totally ruined because he gets right up and dusts himself off like he'd tripped or something.
Curt McGirt
It was probably the shock of it, like when Jericho got spiked on his head by Gedo and immediately got up like nothing happened.
Dewar
Aw man, this is so Memphis that they even threw in Tojo Yamamoto. Nothing but wild brawling and great punches. I've never seen anything with Embry before but he has such facials and selling, and his punches are right there with the Superstar's. Then to make it even more Memphis they throw in a piledriver during the finish. Sadly they're still doing the cutaways. For however green guys like Booker and JBL have looked, and how equally young Stunning Steve was, you can tell this guy's gonna be a star. His size, personality, and skill shine through and you can just tell he's a natural. Not that either of the former two have looked particularly bad, especially with Booker there's the spark that will carry him far, but this is all too clear with Austin. Nightmare Danny Davis (is this the same guy who was the heel ref in the WWF?) is doing some mini-Sting gimmick with similar facepaint and hair. Even though they work a lot of restholds it's way old-school in building heat and leading to the big comeback. Great neckbreaker from Davis too! The Nightmares were a team in Memphis and Continental. Started in masks, I believe, ended up with some facepaint later on. Solid tag team, even though they both look really small. Track down Nightmares vs Stud Stable from Continental if you can (it's on youtube somewhere).

I can see someone making that gimmick work in the territories. Downtown Bruno leads his newest acquisitions to the ring, two masked giants named Atari and Vector (loved that game), They beat up two jobbers, then Bruno cuts a promo. One of the jobbers has to be George South. It's not southern wrestling unless someone beats up George South at least once. Back on topic, this GWF marathon reminds me how little Eric Embry's babyface act works for me. Not that I dislike Embry, exactly. He always struck me as perfect for a chickenshit heel role. Instead, he's wrestling Akbar as babyface hero. Ugh.

hammerva
Those are the oddest guardrails I have seen in Global 1991. It looks like they found some bedposts from a junk yard and used them By the way, is this Terry Garvin the same guy who played the flaming homo in Memphis and USWA? If so then I would love to see how they explain that turnaround.

Stosh
They were a number of masked tag teams in memphis, including the first team cornette managed, the galaxians, alpha and beta. I'm still sad Cornette didn't turn on them to manage a new team called the Galagas. The Space Invaders was right there. RIGHT THERE. Especially if they came out to the "dun. dun. dun. dun." music. Not at all, most people loved Embry at the end of the WCCW set. I personally grew to hate the Von Erichs, as their characters were crazy over the top goody two shoes (and massive hypocrites). Embry in 1989 was the saving grace of the set for me, and he was everything as a top face that the Von Erichs were not (and not terribly stale like the Von Erich family). I almost posted a what-if about Embry in a top promotion, but understand that he was perfect for that territory and his act likely would not have translated in WWF or WCW (though maybe it works in WCW).
