I almost hate to say this, because it's going to disappoint me when it doesn't happen, even though it's so unlikely to happen.

Buuuuut, what if TK goes all super-forbiddenny and has a CMLL vs. New Japan match on his show with Hechicero vs. ZSJ? That'd be cool.

I'm with you on that one.  Hechicero certainly wants it as he's mentioned ZSJ in promos over the years.  Hechicero's placement at the end of the Casino match was no accident, either.  Something is in the works for him.

Here's hoping we get Zack Sabre Jr vs. Hechicero.

I hate to even suggest this... but it'd probably be a three-way with Danielson.

Then again if anyone could make that work it'd be them.

That said, it'd technically be the rubber match between ZSJ and Danielson right? Don't think that's gonna work.

Mone v Vaquer was announced as well I thought?

My guide is Wikipedia, since they've got their standards pretty solidly set.    I'm sure it'll be added when they actually say it on TV.

But Takeshita just qualified for the ladder match a couple of hours ago! HOW COULD WIKIPEDIA HAVE KNOWN???

So, for those who do not pay a lot attention to CMLL, CMLL is running "Fantasticamania Mexico" on June 21st in Arena Mexico.  This essentially a NJPW vs CMLL show.

The big expectation for that show was Hechicero vs ZSJr, but they're ZSJr is in a tag match, and Hechicero is not on the show at all.

From LuchaBlog:

Quote

The attention is really on the semi-main. ZSJ and Hechicero went back and forth in promos this year, and CMLL fans assumed that 1v1 match was happening as soon as ZSJ was announced. That may never have been the plan, but CMLL never did anything to warn their fans it wasn’t happening. The social media response to that match and this show has been intensely negative. It’d actually be the perfect set up for CMLL to say “we’re listening to the fans and making a chance”, but CMLL is also the last company to do something like that. NJPW is heavily hinting they’re going to run that ZSJ/Hechicero match in San Jose, which is only going to make the Mexican fans even angrier. CMLL obviously doesn’t rate Hechicero as high as people on social media, but it’s had to understand why were so tone deaf to not see this reaction coming. There’s a month before this show is happening, maybe those fans will get over it, or maybe they’ll make their voice loudly heard during the match.

Hechicero vs ZSJr in San Jose?

NJPW is running "Fantasticamania USA" on July 9th in San Jose, which is essentially the NJPW Strong version of this same CMLL/NJPW show.

If NJPW is planning on ZSJr vs Hechicero being one of the top matches tin San Jose, I don't see AEW running that same match a week before on PPV. That, or AEW is going to do it at the PPV, and that is why CMLL isn't doing it themselves at Arena Mexico?

I’m fine with it happening wherever, just so it happens.

I gotta be that guy and remind everyone that Hechicero vs ZSJ already happened once. 2018 PWG. It was pretty good but a tad exhibition-y.

I never saw that one but oddly, I felt the exact same way about ZSJ vs Kurt Angle from like ten years ago

That's the old ZSJ though. The new and improved one is leaps and bounds better.

Which brings me to this! What would be a good new-ZSJ primer match for those of us still uninitiated?

He had a real scorcher with Daniel Makabe earlier this year.

See, now it's official and it's a unification (or 'winner take all') match, so we can have that debate again.

I'm really digging them getting away from FD being strictly New Japan/AEW and bringing in CMLL and Stardom.

I am as I know very little to fuck all about CMLL/Stardom so opening my eyes to new things.

Wonder it we'll get the same for Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay.

It probably goes without saying, but both of ZSJ’s recent matches against Danielson.

First one was at WrestleDream in 2023, but they wrestled again in New Japan on the 2/11/2024 New Beginning in Osaka card. That match was as good if not better than the one that took place in AEW.

Yes, please.  Unify those belts and never speak of the International title again.

I'd rather them ditch the Continental title and keep the International simply because I like the belt itself better.

Or, really, maybe let the Continental be like the G-1 where its not a title per se with a belt and all, but is still prestigious in and of itself?

I'm not really an "AEW has too many belts!" guy, but I'm starting to lean that way.
