Curt McGirt Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Colbert said tonight that he wished he were as good as Norm MacDonald so he could make a joke about the death of Norm MacDonald. Can we get a consensus as how we are spelling his last name FFS? My OCD is killing me. 2
Dolfan in NYC Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 @Curt McGirt Wiki has it spelled as Macdonald, so does Google. So that's how I'd spell it. Anyway, here's yet another amazing clip: 3
Curt McGirt Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Holy motherfucking fucking fuck. I just remembered (because it's on TV) that Norm was (is) Pigeon on Mike Tyson's Mysteries. And he probably was through his whole diagnosis. That is definitely food for thought. And laughs, thankfully.
odessasteps Posted September 17, 2021 Author Posted September 17, 2021 RIP actress Jane Powell, age 92. 1
RIPPA Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 I totally forgot that she was Alan Thicke's mom on Growing Pains until I just skimmed her IMDB (maybe because it was easier to remember Gordon Jump playing Joanna Kerns dad)
Execproducer Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 I hear Elvis isn't doing well either. 1
odessasteps Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) From Criterion: Quote We are saddened to announce the passing of a giant of American cinema, Melvin Van Peebles, who died last night, at home with family, at the age of 89. In an unparalleled career, Van Peebles made an indelible mark on the international cultural landscape. He will be deeply missed. Edited September 22, 2021 by odessasteps 2
J.T. Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 NPR had a really nice tribute piece this morning. Yep. That is an X Rating, dudes. 2
Curt McGirt Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I still gotta see that fucking movie, can't believe I haven't before.
Curt McGirt Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 https://deadline.com/2021/09/melvin-van-peebles-remembered-by-spike-lee-david-alan-grier-barry-jenkins-ava-duvernay-more-1234842533/ The irony... Spike Lee Tweets just like Hulk Hogan. I guess at least he doesn't add SL to his posts. And of all people HAMMER pays tribute! 1
odessasteps Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 Did we not post about Willie Garson passing away earlier this week?
Curt McGirt Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 https://archive.org/details/1566981383 Frankly, I just feel bad after watching this. It's long, poorly shot, and negative. The last shot is like the evil version of Pink Flamingos. I understand what Melvin was up to, trying to make a film that was Black Revolutionary, but that was just done improperly to my taste. All the same, despite my thoughts, he did what he did and it is a triumph.
J.T. Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 We would be remiss if we did not mention that Yamamoto also directed episodes of Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion. He also served as the screenwriter for Space Battleship Yamato. RIP. 2
odessasteps Posted September 30, 2021 Author Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) RIP Tommy Kirk, age 79. Child actor for things like Old Yeller and the Shaggy Dog and later beach movies as a teen. MSTies know him for Village of the Giants and Catalins Caper. Edited September 30, 2021 by odessasteps 1

(BP) Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Ironically, Swiss Family Robinson is a shaggy dog story set on a beach.
odessasteps Posted September 30, 2021 Author Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) I just mentioned what i saw in the online blurb, except the MST stuff. i had totally forgotten Walt Disney personally fired him when he found out Tommy was gay. And then Walt had to hire him back after Merlin Jones made so much money they had to make a sequel. Edited September 30, 2021 by odessasteps
