The good thing about Sporting's pending loss tonight is that I'm still numb to feeling sports things after last night.

Hey, did you see the weak sauce penalty on the Whitecaps that ended their season last night? I'm not a diehard fan but my season ticket holder bud was fuming afterwards. They played like ass in the first half so the team has a large chunk of the blame in the end.

Didn't see it live, but just checked it out. "Weak" is right, but that's the tricky thing about the handball rule. It touches the arm, clearly. But it was also without intent, and didn't seem to impact the play at all. Thus, it's the referee's discretion. I'll say this: Having no rooting interest, it strikes me as lame, but understandable. Were it called on SKC, however, I'd be livid.

Anyone who would argue that TH14 isn't the greatest player in MLS history is a fool. He is just amazing to watch, just a master at his craft. Was sick as a dog today and didn't know if I'd be able to make it, but I'm sure as hell glad I did. Now onto the scum, SOS CAGON WASHINGTON!

Well here's one that's certainly good for a laugh:

Was actually at an MLS match In 2008 where this happened: Danny Cepero (making his first ever start) punted the ball to the other end. The Columbus keeper came for it, but it took a strange hop and went right over him into the back of the net. I think to this day it's the only time a keeper has scored from open play in MLS

All i kept seeing on twitter was how lethargic and disinterested he was tonight. But they won so i guess that what counts.

I'm guessing one of the yo yos from ESPN said that and everyone piggybacked on it? He didn't look lethargic and disinterested when he was creating opportunity after opportunity, including the two that counted.

I dont think i follow any espn futbol people.

Like i said, he won and thats what matters.

Think there's a misunderstanding. Meant that I guessed one of the guys on the ESPN broadcast said it and everyone on Twitter parroted it.

He provided the incisive moments that won the game for NY. I think the idea that he just sort of floats through games, detached and disinterested, is kind of a cliche at this point, which people repeat for a lack of genuine analysis.

(As for us, I'm honestly glad the season is over. Targeted all 3 competitions, and thus none of them effectively. Injuries ravaged the depth that could have made such ambition somewhat rational. Even with presumed health, and no CCL to bother with, we've got a roster that, for the first time in a couple years, seems to need real work.)

German cup saw no major surprises (neither of the teams with decent chances to win it - on paper - got eliminated), yet once more top flight teams fell prey to lower league clubs (Hannover and Hertha BSC Berlin got eliminated). Leverkusen was very close to being the major upset of this round facing Magdeburg (fourth division and therefore basically just outside the national league system), equalizing a deficit in overtime and later going through in PKs after being down by two missed kicks at one point.

Next round Bayern got the luck of draw, facing 2. Bundesliga Braunschweig at home, Dortmund plays in Dresden (where local rivals Schalke were eliminated in the first round) and Leverkusen gets Kaiserslautern at home in a repeat of last year´s quarterfinal (which Kaiserslautern one in extra time).

Bundesliga matchday is upon us aswell, Bayern will play Dortmund Saturday evening. Might very well be the last chance for Dortmund to salvage this season. Bayern has been pretty much cruising up on top, some teams are still in striking distance, but some of them are unlikely to play as consistantly as Bayern do tbh.

My men's team keeper scored a goal this season from a goalie boot. Even worse, it was the game winning goal, after he let in two shitters, so all of a sudden his focus went from how crappy he played to "I scored the winning goal". :)

He punted the ball, one of our strikers chased it, and was going to win the race, but the other team's goalie ran out of the box, and took a swing at the ball. Totally missed, and our striker escorted the ball into the net to make sure it was a goal for the goalie.

Yeah, fun stuff all around.

Speaking of, that Calhanoglu goal was crazy.

Considering the game is at the Allianz and how good Bayern have been this season and how badly it's gone for BVB in the Bundesliga, there's a good chance they get steamrolled pretty fairly.

Wouldn't be surprised if they BVB was able to pull out the draw for some bizarre reason though.

So uh, Julian Draxler just managed to injure his hamstring inside 20 seconds in Schalke's game today. Promising start.

Sucks, but at least they finally got 3 points.

Celta Viga just beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Probably should have had a pelanty at the very end there, too.

Caught most of Bayern/Dortmund but left during the last 20 minutes and saw the very end, missing both Bayern goals. Must be deflating for Dortmund after they played pretty well from what I saw.

Ouch. The last time I remind Barça losing to someone aside from Real and Atleti at Camp Nou was when they lost that 0-2 to Hercules a couple of seasons ago where they won the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

On one hand Liverpool are behind Southampton and Swansea and West Ham.

On the other hand still ahead of Spurs, mind you. We are just biding our time. Waiting for our moment to strike.

There's no doubt that Liverpool are not playing very well. But the fixture schedule has been unkind; now was not the time to go to St. James' Park. It's definitely exacerbated things.
