Ryan
"I got a big fat wife and nine kids at home, and I gotta feed em!" http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2skcg_larry-zbyszko-s-in-this-corner-w-st_sport The best part of that being that he actually has a tiny Japanese wife. I'm almost positive I saw his son pitch in a minor league game up here when he was still signed.
cool arrow
Stan with long blond hair never fails to amuse me.
Spritenaut 32
Hansen as a babyface in Georgia still weirds me out. Something's not right with the world if Hansen is teaming with white meat babyfaces, not lariating them out of their boots. Of course, Georgia had some weird babyfaces. Kevin Sullivan got beat up quite a bit by the Freebirds when the birds first showed up.
cubbymark
So weird to see Stan Hansen on the opposite side of an ass whooping. I don't care that it's Bruno Sammartino. It's just not right.
Jingus
Sammartino was so freakishly strong that he's one of the few who might've legitimately had a chance against Stan in a shoot. BTW, has anyone seen the match where Stan broke Bruno's neck? I'm unclear on what happened exactly. It definitely wasn't the lariat, because in the clipped match I saw which purported to be the one, Stan loaded up his elbow pad and then proceeded to baby-tap Bruno with the lightest, flimsiest, c'mon-man-even-my-clothesline-is-better-than-that "lariat" that the man has ever thrown in his life. Was this in the same match after Stan supposedly dropped Bruno on his head with a botched bodyslam, or did they do one of those awful deals where they made a hurt wrestler go out there and work another match to kayfabe explain his injury? Ryan
The botched body slam is what fractured his neck and they rushed him back in like two months, but I'm not aware which match had the lariat in question. He was probably still injured so Stan didn't want to hurt him again.
Curt McGirt
Aww.... why do you hate Curt's posts? Why? "No fair." Luger probably thought there was a steel plate in Hansen's arm instead when he got hit there haha
Curt McGirt
I thought there was a rematch between Hansen and Vader after the Super Fight and went looking for it to no avail (did that ever happen or am I tripping?). Anyway I found this instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vrx9FK64ps and also found this. I can only imagine the comical amount of pain Ogawa has inflicted upon him here. I also am so so happy Ogawa didn't end up an All Japan Week wrestler of the day, though it would have given me an excuse to post Abby mutilating him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJKDH4TKUWY
Curt McGirt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLIqoWPMloM I hope I'm not the recipient of my own "no fair" on this, as I don't know if it's already posted and am too lazy to check, but I have to post it here to watch it (damn Youtube). Six minutes of Stan making Jumbo look like Mother Teresa to Kikuchi is something I am forced to watch. EDIT: Poor, poor Kikuchi. Stan didn't even have to Lariat him. It's like a kid playing in his sandbox with an action figure.
Jingus
I thought there was a rematch between Hansen and Vader after the Super Fight and went looking for it to no avail (did that ever happen or am I tripping?). It happened, it was just a much less memorable match and nobody ever talks about it. I can only imagine the comical amount of pain Ogawa has inflicted upon him here. Heh. "Stupid gaijin, I will take you down with repeated Space Tornado... oh SHIT, I forgot I'm not the TOUGH Ogawa! WAAAH, MISAWA, HELP MEEEEEE~!" Curt McGirt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cROG90IGw3k I went back to watch this on a Phil comp if this is the right match (I think it's actually 6/17/90, or maybe this guy is right) and man what an utter asskicking. Stan and Steve are kind of even, both are huge, powerful men at the top of their game who hold maybe the two most legit death finishers in wrestling -- the Lariat and the Backdrop Driver, respectively -- so it's like a giant fighting a mirror version of himself. They just absolutely batter each other here. There's a punch to the neck, a super nasty series of elbows, a match of headbutts, and finally Williams I believe hardways Stan with his knee. Stan's selling is beyond reproach here. His face of agony and constantly running and falling from exhaustion are perfect. Also, Dr. Death inadvertently invents Luke Harper's Gator Roll!

Curt McGirt
If you're cool to go back and watch his matches now, just make sure to avoid the one where Gordy powerbombs him on the floor and that tag with Nagata where they fake a shoot injury on him; those are horribly uncomfortable to watch. BurningBeard
His death was the reason I pretty much stopped watching wrestling altogether tbh. I just kinda felt abit disgusted and dirty about the whole strong style thing and taking enjoyment from it :/
Curt McGirt
Hopefully watching Ogawa get beaten reintegrated you a bit. We can all feel okay living vicariously through that.
BurningBeard
Oh yeah, ain't got no problem with clubberings and stiffness. It's the head and neck drops and going above and beyond the call of duty that left me cold. 80's AJPW is about as good as it gets for mehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9W-io5xUJE
Matt D
BTW, I DO love the Old Man Bock vs Hansen match because Bock is such a dickish babyface machine in it and Hansen plays the chickenshit role better than I would have ever imagined him able to. mattdangerously
http://youtu.be/bp0Wo7hLTIE Never saw this match before watching this today. Holy crap, what a fun match. I need to watch more in-his-prime Andre. Can someone provide some context for this match? What was the face/heel dynamic, because it sounded like the crowd was cheering for Andre, but he was acting like a heel. Was this a feud, or just a one-off?
cool arrow
Andre was always a heel in Japan, but Hansen was too, so maybe they figured Andre was the lesser of two evils or something?
Matt D
Andre vs Hansen is required watching for the board. it should be embedded on the registration screen.
Curt McGirt
What Matt said (plus it should be required watching for any wrestling fan period as it is the best match ever). As far as face/heel dynamic I personally think it's Hansen as underdog against the biggest monster ever. Think about that for a second. Hansen. Underdog.
