Robert Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Blatantly stolen from twitter... Nonis extended Carlyle? Of corsi did!
caley Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 So Kypreos is saying that both Toronto and Ottawa are looking at trading their captains: Dion Phaneuf and Jason Spezza. Darren Dreger said the Leafs weren't shopping/hadn't talked about Phaneuf, because, of course, that's what Nonis would tell him to say. Spezza seems the most likely to go, most likely to Anaheim. Though, this begs the question if a GM signs a player to a 7-year extension (Dion) and the new president decides it's a bad deal and wants to trade him before the first year of said extension, how does said president keep said GM around?
ChesterCopperpot Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Paul Holmgrem managed to get away without being canned for the Jeff Carter trade - 7 months after selling an 11 year extension
caley Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 My favourite current rumor (Besides Marc Crawford coming to Florida...I have a soft spot for 90s coaches coming back) is that Pittsburgh might turf Dan Byslma to replace him with Mike Keenan.
mco543 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Keenan is the perfect coach to hire if they want to completely destroy whatever is left of Fleury's confidence and psyche. 1
Death From Above Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 They're going to sign Ryan Miller and trade Fleury but Keenan and Sad Miller together would still have the same result.
caley Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I really just want Keenan back in the NHL: Keenan coaching Fleury would be amazing; Keenan coaching Luongo would be amazing; if somehow, by the grace of God, we were treated to Keenan and Tim Thomas, I hope someone would film all of it to make a reality series. 1
caley Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Keenan coaching Luongo would be amazing Never again. Older, more established and twitter-savvy Luongo vs. Keenan would be top tier stuff.
pipGofern Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Isn't Kennan currently coaching Malkin's old team in Russia? He's a nut but I'd rather him than Barry Trotz. I would hope the Penguins have higher aspirations than to be Nashville.
mco543 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I've lived through Mike Keenan more than enough times as a Panthers fan. If Luongo is somehow moved to another club then Keenan can certainly be his head coach again, just not in Florida. 1
odessasteps Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I love the idea of pittsburgh firing Bylsma and being immediatelt hired by the Capitals.
caley Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I love the idea of pittsburgh firing Bylsma and being immediatelt hired by the Capitals. It almost sounds like it could be the Penguins firing Shero and Bylsma and both of them ending up in Washington! Bob McKenzie just suggested that if Shero is fired, he might go right to Washington. I also kind of think Vancouver might go with Mike Johnston as their head coach, or maybe an associate.
Jiji Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Would Johnston want to do the associate coach gig at his age and after already being down that path (in Vancouver no less)?
odessasteps Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I heard people express potential concern over Vancouver having a rookie President, rookie GM (rumored to be Jim Benning) and rookie coach (Johnson).
Death From Above Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 It's worked out great in Edmonton so far. Multiple times! 1
Big Z Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 It's official, massive house cleaning in Pittsburgh. Both Bylsma and Shero out.
Jiji Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Interesting moves and non-moves with the Sharks: Doug Wilson and Todd McLellan stay, Boyle is gone, Havlat CBO'd, and Burns is shifting back to defence. I liked Burns as a forward but apparently Robinson wants him back on D. Wilson says he's open to moving anybody for the right price - typical GM talk. I hope Shero signs with the Caps tomorrow. Get that guy off the market before he can even interview with the Canucks. Oh, and Bettman and Daly were in Seattle talking to the mayor a few days ago. A team in Seattle would RULE.
caley Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 and Burns is shifting back to defence. I liked Burns as a forward but apparently Robinson wants him back on D. I figure this comes down to Wilson going "We're gonna let Boyle go, [pulls up capgeek UFA list] and we can just sign a UFA Defenceman like- Oh my God! Kyle Quincey, Marek Zidlicky, Matt Niskanen...you know what, we'll move Burns back to defence and just sign a forward..." Rumors are out there that the Penguins owner that's not Mario Lemieux wants Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent, to be the team's new GM. Is there a rule against making an active player GM, maybe they should just put Crosby in charge...
Death From Above Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Burns was really, really good on that line with Jumbo Joe and Hertl. That can't be an easy choice for them.
Charlie M. Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Boyle being gone means they need someone back there, though. They've got quite a few more options up front especially if Hertl can build on what he showed in his brief run.
Death From Above Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 I know he's young but I look at Hertl's size, skill, and general hockey sense and I see the next Marion Hossa. High bar there obviously, but there just wasn't anything missing. You just hope it's not a mirage.
