Sentenced - Amok:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnP9vxmchnQ

I'm actually not a fan of the earlier Sentenced records if you can believe that. In the current Finnish binge I'm on I'll try Shadows and North again. This, however, is so weird and cool that it always stuck with me -- just a blast of a strange and melodic record with some of the most... different vocals. (Side note: I meant to buy this from Chris Black of High Spirits, etc. for a long time and screwed up, ending up spending $40 for it because he sold out. You might want to get on that unlike me if you want the record.)

Blood - O Agios Pethane, Impulse to Destroy:

Nuclear War Now! has re-released these two on vinyl along with the middle album between, Christbait. For some reason I don't like that one much but WORSHIP O Agios Pethane, and am giving the demo-quality first album a try too. Blood is one of the coolest grindcore exports from Germany. Their mix of death, grind, and even some war/goat/bestial type black metal (big Blasphemy influence) is perfect on the Greek-titled record. All their stuff is good, really, with Depraved Goddess and Gas Flames Bones, and their last one Inferno, my other favorites. I actually met their guitarist Eisen at an Autopsy show one time! Unfortunately both times they played Chicago otherwise, I missed them... and they've retired from US dates now after the last tour so I'm SOL. Grrrrrrr... another mistake.

Just finished Heavy Duty Days and Nights in Judas Priest by KK Downing, very informative about his childhood and a lot of thoughts on the various albums over the years but a bit of a downer as it is very much an airing of grievances about his time in the band that ultimately lead to him quitting. Not as long or in depth as either of Rob's books but still a recommended read to anyone who's a fan of the band

Amok (or Down, either or) is my favorite Sentenced album and The War Ain't Over and Dance on My Grave (Lil Sistah) are undoubtedly my two all time favorite Sentenced tracks. I happened to be in the army at the time when I was first listening to (parts of) this album on a cassette.

Coincidentally, I went back and listened to Shadows and North again. Shadows felt like a pretty basic Swedish death metal album. North sounded like... Death. Like, post-Spiritual Healing, Human/Individual/Symbolic-style technical Death. I did not expect that at ALL. It was pretty good!

Yeah, it's not like we don't have enough information. But maybe Paul Di'Anno's wheelchair ridden ass, discussion of Clive Burr or Blaze Bayley or Janick, or maybe just Steve Harris going off about football will be something new.

Really what we need is a Judas Priest doc. Especially now.

I feel like Iron Maiden is insanely successful but kinda unrecognized, no they don't do the Taylor Swift/Beyonce numbers but they play arenas and some stadiums world wide and have been doing it for a long time.

Re: Maiden, it might just be from a fanboy's viewpoint that a doc is unnecessary. But then, anything Maiden is necessary, really.

RIP to Curtis Beeson! Nasty Savage were the jewel of Florida besides Savatage back before the death metal boom. They were so goddamn weird and cool, totally unique sound, went from an almost Mercyful Fate sound on this to really cool technical thrash. Their demo might be even better.
