In case you need a vinyl or tape copy, Relapse FINALLY re-released Mortal Throne of Nazarene, the best Incantation album*. They also got The Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish EP on both formats as well, or both records in a bundle. This is important because they've always had their shitty version of the album where it was a raw mix and they put the songs in backwards order available since time immemorial, while this was buried in the stacks. Guess all those Mortician albums were more important, huh?

* Diabolical Conquest is a strong contender against Mortal, but I've got to go Mortal. Yeah Onward is good but Mortal has better songs and atmosphere.

Well, writing "Paul Di'Anno's wheelchair ridden ass" a page back makes me feel like trash. Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

Anyway.

This is Necrony, the band prior to Nasum, who are a pretty legendary grindcore band... and also for having their singer/guitarist Mieszko sadly be swept out to sea on vacation in Thailand during a tsunami. He was another of us that passed way too soon. But! His talent is super apparent here. This is a little long in the tooth but one of the best death metal/goregrind albums I've ever heard, and I've absolutely fell in love with it in the last month or so. The wonderful maniacs at F.O.A.D. Records in Italy are repressing it on vinyl by the end of the year, I believe. It sounds like a lot of the Finnish death I've been into recently -- blastbeats (some of the fastest until the advent of bands like Cryptopsy) contrasted with doom parts, and some awesome pitchshifted vocals. Think a more maniacal, cleaned-up early Carcass mixed with Entombed/Dismember-style Swedish death. It'll do the trick.

I LOVE The Ritual. Everything else... flush em.

I actually walked out on Kreator! They started to play "Awakening of the Gods" and were like "psych, nope, here's a new song". (Mercyful Fate was beautiful, though)

Possessed's new stuff is so good that I would drool over the possibility of seeing them.

Quoting you because I can't tag you. Have you seen this festival? I've been pretty out of music for a few years so I have no idea how sketchy this lineup is. Can you give me some idea?

Heh. D666, Satanic Warmaster, Horna, Sargeist, Disma, Diocletion (though they may have new members and cleaned up their act; NWN! is putting out their new record and Yosuke does not put out or sell NS shit), Inquisition dude was convicted of child molestation! They've been taken to town over this in the past. Also there's another fest that's been ripped this year for having a version of Absu with Proscriptor McGovern who is super transphobic and a trans member was either kicked out or left in the past. That's a real shame because they've always been killer. Fuck Proscriptor anyway, that member is on all his records haha

Damn. I'd known about the NS stuff with Inquisition. It really sucks because their albums are sick.

Absu stuff sucks too.

I'll probably pass on that show next year then. It's out of state so I'd need permission to go and explaining it all to probation and parole sounds like it might cause issues.

I put Flower Traveling Band's "Satori" last night for the first time in years and I'd forgotten just how good it is.

Aw yeah, that album rules

Something this conversation reminded me of is that Rich Walker from Solstice has turned into a complete and utter twat (as my British trans friend Kat from Thronehammer, Winds of Genocide etc. calls him) with the transphobia and right-wing politics. Funny thing is for years he WAS the band Sore Throat, who were totally ensconced in the underground punk/hardcore/crust/grind scene. Solstice has been one of the best traditional metal/doom bands forever and to find this out is pretty sad.

Oh damn. I haven't heard Solstice but did enjoy Sore Throat.

I got a laugh at work. The kid in dish was talking about music and said he liked metal. From the other stuff he'd been listening to I was prepared for a butt rock band like Disturbed or Five Finger Death Punch. Instead he throws on some ridiculous slam band.

Yeah man, finding out about Primordial's pretty fucked up politics a couple of years back stung hard because I do think they're a great band, but I just cannot support that shit. It's a complete non-starter to push that racial purity shit. Agalloch is a tricky one too because as noted on the list their lead singer is, at best, a stupid asshole, and at worst just a shitty person, but the rest of the band doesn't seem to get down with it. It's weird. I do think their brand of ambient music combined with the heaviness is beautiful, but I think they are worth an asterisk based on what we see from any members in the future. Also The Nightshade Eclipse is my favourite Emperor record which is, you know... unfortunate. But the band on the whole seems to have cleaned up since those days at least so I let it slide.

On the other hand, I'm relieved to see 1349 on the right side of things because if you've never seen them, holy fuck their drummer is from some other planet. How he gets through sets I will never know. If you ever just want to hear a wall of unfathomable nonsense noise, that's definitely your band.

There was a time I didn't really give a shit about the politics of celebrities, but that ship has long sailed. The world is in too fucked up a place and there are too many good entertainment options for me to waste time knowingly supporting shitty human beings when I can absolutely find alternatives that don't require me to pretend I didn't see that.

Bestial Mockery isn't on the list but they're another disappointment; as soon as I saw the big sunwheel on their singer's elbow I looked em up and sure enough members were in some band called Sons of Satan that wrote straight up gassing the Jews, heil Hitler lyrics. They sit in my hall of shame along with the first Angelcorpse record and The Black's The Priest of Satan (because fuck Jon Nodtveidt). I'm kinda proud there's only three records in there -- I guess you could add Solstice though now. Or GG Allin.

This isn't counting all the shit people sent me as a teenager when they were trying to recruit me. I had the dude from the Dark Legions Archive sending me CDRs of straight up 1930s Nazi marching band music. Ironically he was also sending me Bad Brains and Discharge and Suicidal Tendencies!

EDIT: Well and I got the first Emperor EP on vinyl too, if you count Faust, and I do.
