The Dead Zone is probably the best Stephen King movie aside from Stand By Me. (Yeah, I'll take it over The Shining or Carrie, or even Pet Semetery.) So watch that one.

EDIT: I'm not rating Shawshank or Green Mile because 1. I haven't seen them all the way through, and 2. It really isn't fair putting them on the list because they're not only Oscar winners but bonafide Oscar Bait. You can't put them on a list with something like The Mist or Christine no matter how good those movies are.

Man, that's a good thought exercise.  The best King movie, not including the Oscar bait?  I guess I'd say The Shining, though King hates it and it absolutely has its flaws, like Nicholson playing Jack Torrance as kind of a nutjob and an ass from the start.  Hm.  I need to think about it.

You know what's a bad King adaptation?  The new "It."  Less an actual story than just a collection of "person goes here, does something, gets terrorized by a vision of Pennywise that is actually of no consequence, rinse, repeat, end sequence."  It's more of a carnival ride than a film.

Still hoping the Dark Tower gets a good adaptation in my lifetime.

Speaking of Oscar bait

Third trailer for Heretic where I am starting to see stuff around Hugh Grant getting an Oscar (granted that could entirely be wishful thinking)

Stand By Me could technically be Oscar Bait too, considering the story and all. It's just too little of a film though. And maybe even too personal.

My vote for the underrated one is the four hour (on TV) director's cut of Needful Things. I haven't seen it since it aired and have no idea if it ended up on DVD (and if so it probably only stretched out to 2 1/2-3 hours) but it was pretty damn good. That'll happen when you scored Max Von Sydow to play a stand-in for Satan I guess.

That's got some interesting stuff on it, brings up a lot of thoughts, like Apt Pupil maybe being the real underrated star, Dark Tower needing to be animated, god how in the hell did so many Children of the Corn films get made, etc. etc. etc.

I went back to Christine this week because I’ve been rewatching the Carpenters that I didn’t think much of years ago since I’ve realized how much pan and scan hurts his movies. I enjoyed it more than I used to, but it’s still just a pretty good King adaptation. If Bryan Fuller gets his version made there’s plenty to dig into not touched by the 83’ film, but it’s probably going to be hurt by CGI. The practical effects of Christine reassembling are so simple but incredibly eerie. Also, I just saw the original teaser for the first time and it’s so cool.

I only caught the new It movies this month. I loved Chapter 1, but Chapter 2 is definitely hurt by the middle act being a series of Pennywise run-ins with no breathing room.

Lawful Jr got to see the Substance this weekend. I’m jealous. But then again taking a 3 year old to that movie would be a mistake. But then again, Jr said some mom brought her 5 year old for the last 15 minutes. Who am I to judge?

The Wild Robot was pretty great. Quite a bit of death for a kids movie though

Dude, I was checking iTunes yesterday and saw that there's a Salem's Lot remake from just two years ago.  I had no idea.

Christine was great.  I saw it in the theater, which means I was 9.  No idea what my parents were thinking but, I know I also watched Carpenter's The Thing on SuperTV (did they have that in your part of Maryland?) when I was probably like 7 or 8.

When  I was 3 Dad took me and my 12 year old cousin to the near by drive in to see this fairly recent film,Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Week later I went with dad to see the Exorcist at the same drive in.

Disagree with the second sentence (and full agreement with the first), could really be a great vehicle for helping kids understand morality. Grandma's getting older, this could help them prepare. (For the record I think they should have gone with the original ending in Ice Age). Too many Helen Lovejoy's in the world think kids can't handle anything

Also the car from Christine is in The Vault in the Peterson Auto Museum in LA

I am 40 years old.

That movie should not be shown to me.

Incredible, though. I'm very happy to have went to that instead of Terrifier 3. Demi Moore deserves an Oscar.

Watched Prince of Darkness on Sunday. Enjoyed it though not as much as the Thing. Want to watch In the Mouth of Madness, but I'm feeling too cheap to rent it right now. Might wait till next year.

The mention of House: the Second Story in Secret Satan made me want to rewatch it it and the first one. Only done the first so far, but I had fun catching it as always. Not sure when I will do the second movie aside form before the month is up. My older brother wants to watch the third since its the only one he hasn't seen.

Not sure what is next. Probably will start that new Hysteria series with Bruce Campbell this weekend. Started Grotesquerie though I'm not sure if I will stick with it yet.

If you like Bruce Campbell (and lets be real who doesn't?) My Name is Bruce is on Amazon Prime

Also Starry Eyes is on Tubi

Starry Eyes is a legit 0 star morally wrong film.  I seriously thought the actress probably killed herself after that.  She finally popped up again in Doctor Sleep so whew.  I've never felt as bad after watching a film as that and I took a first date to Requiem for a Dream. Great soundtrack though!

Any newer (last 5-6 years) horror flicks out on streaming worth checking out? Right now I just have The Shining, Doctor Sleep, and the new Salem's Lot on my list to catch this month. Thinking of maybe Uzumaki as well.

Watched Hysteria over the weekend. Thought it was fun on the whole. The ending was mostly solid and felt like it left just enough crumbs for a more supernatural based second season if they want to go that route.

I don’t remember it being in theaters here. I know I had it and From Beyond on tape and watching them many times. hashtag Barbara Crampton.
