So, I got invited to go to UFC this Saturday in Louisville. I am woefully out of touch with current MMA. Anything worth looking out for in particular on this card?

Jared Cannonier's first fight in two years as he beat former UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland but lost to others in Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.

Dominick Reyes won 12 fights in a row and was fucking robbed of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by the judges vs. Jon Jones. Reyes was never the same again losing four in a row, three by KO. The KO by Jiri Prochazka is one of the sickest you'll ever see.

Hope that helps. Enjoy!

Take it Little Log won't be going? Won't want him replicating what he's learnt at the UFC ;).

No, he gets to do Smackdown live tomorrow, so he's happy. He and his sister fight with each other enough. I don't need either one of them getting good at it!

to add on to what @Natural said,

Raul Rosas Jr. is a very hot prospect right now and has been fun to watch.

Punahele Soriano doesn't always win, but he's always in an exciting fight.

Is Poatan the emergency break glass replacement guy? Not that I am complaining.

Not surprised at all Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler is off. Chandler's wasted two years of his career waiting for Conor.

Looking forward to Alex Pereira vs. Jiří Procházka 2 with the power possessed by both men. Pereira KO'd Jiri in round 2. Hope the rematch goes longer.

I don't know if the narrative should be that Michael Chandler wasted two years of his career as much Conor wasted a good portion of his career by not fighting once he recovered from his injury. Chandler has probably gotten more pub not taking damage in a fight that's been more off and on than a bedroom light switch than he probably would have gotten against a random LW to kill the time until the Conor fight did happen. Add in the fact any fight other than Conor would be extremely high risk and low reward. He was in a tough spot to begin with, but hey, that's the fight he wants.

I think I'm most sad about Khamzat being out again, was looking forward to that one. Miss when he was super active in his UFC starting days.

Glad 303 is still looking like a pretty epic lineup. Gotta love Lionheart Smith stepping up to another tough challenge, his victory last month was the best. I've never picked against Jiri, but Perreira's recent streak (and their previous fight) has me feeling I should never pick against him again.

They also announced Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes, which could be a great fight. Depending on the finish either guy could be Topuria's first defense.

I think both Holloway and Volk will continue to rest and weigh options.

James Vick gets KTFO. Vick belongs on the list of fighters who repeatedly get memorably KTFO with Alistair Overeem, Johnny Walker and Luke Rockhold.

Submissions are weird because they feel like they come from large skill discrepancies. Like when Islam taps out Poirer, it feels anticlimactic. Tapology has Ortega's submission over Yair Rodriguez at #1, and I imagine it's because it felt like a return to form for Ortega.

Another that came to my mind was Anthony Smith getting a guillotine early on Petrino at 301. That felt shocking because Smith was looking rough his last few fights. Angela Hill also recently got her first sub in her career, which felt special to me. No one saw that one coming.

Then there's cases like Jimmy Flick who was getting pieced up in the first round of his fight with Malcolm Gordon. After taking some shots in round two, he got a take down and secured an arm triangle to get the hell out of there. That's the kind of stuff that feels exciting to me, because it's got a little underdog element.

I feel like there was a women's fight that had a killer armbar sub but I'm blanking on who it was. I just remember it was slick and fast.

Speaking of Submissions. Dan Hooker recently revealed that he went to sleep while in Dustin Poirer's guillotine during their fight. It was only for a moment and when he came to he was surprised to find the fight was still going on. So even when Dustin puts a guy out with it, he still can't win with it.

Yeah, submissions don't get talked up as knockouts do. Good point on skill discrepancies. When I first got into MMA in 2000-2002 but especially 2005 to present day, ground work was my favourite thing. Submission attempts, defences and trying to make your opponent submit. It's still my favourite thing in MMA. I always preferred the submission professional wrestlers also: Bret Hart, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan and Zack Sabre Jr.

Someone mentioned Bully Beatdown, which made me remember that Jason Mayhem Miller existed. Looked him up and discovered that the “Legal Controversies” section of his Wikipedia page is longer than his “Career” section.
