J.T.
I didn't lose my shit playing it, so much as I tapped out and moved on to actual good games, then finished off watching the story and seeing that if I played through the rest of the game to get to that, I would've been pissed. Now I just wonder why so many people love this game. But I wonder why so many people love some shitty movies as well, so whatever. Did you flip your coffee table over and throw your controller against the wall when you rage quit?
Fat Spanish Waiter
Has anyone actually done that? I've never damaged anything as a result if a video game, and I got fucked over repeatedly by an invincible Brock Lesnar on UFC 2010.
Tabe
I found The Last of Us to be painfully boring and just a huge chore. I was disappointed with the graphics because of all the glitchiness and weird draw-in. There were some storyline holes as well. In the end, though, the whole thing just felt like a chore. I just know that every hour I actually played it felt like 4 hours. I simply wasn't enjoying the game - any aspect of it - and so I gave up and traded it in. I might give it another try someday but I doubt it.

Matt D
I'm not sure I really understand the hatred The Last Of Us is getting. Its a 16 hour long escort mission where the person your escorting is 4 notches above useless Wait, they remade Ico?
Lamp, broken circa 1988
I'm not sure I really understand the hatred The Last Of Us is getting. Its a 16 hour long escort mission where the person your escorting is 4 notches above useless Wait, they remade Ico? yeah but instead of a beautiful mysterious castle full of odd and terrible things that are never explained and consequences directly tied to your companion, you have guns and it's new york and ellie is an immortal quip emitter This snap brought to you by the Ico Defense Force: "It's Just Me In Here, But Thanks For Stopping By, Can I Get You A Drink Or Something"
Cristobal
Yeah, its a shit game that people seem to fawn over because the ending being shitty and depressing is the in thing now. GTA IV was ahead of its time.
J.T.
GTA IV had a depressing ending? I was quite satisfied peeling Jimmy's cap back for killing Kate.

SturmCRF
Does the PC release of Spelunky HD count as 2013? If so, that. Of the big releases, I'm still far from the end of GTA V, which is excellent, and got a lot of enjoyment out of Bioshock Infinite while being utterly disappointed about how they coupled incredible visual imagination with endless, slightly above average gun battles for ten hours. Andrew POE!
The fact that your posts are so overexaggerating is the best part. To you, it's the biggest steaming pile of shit, the biggest disappointment in your life, the most overrated thing ever, and anyone who played and enjoyed the game doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. If someone likes the game, it must be a glorious piece of gaming culture that changed the way we think about video games and did everything short of coming with a little mechanical arm that jerks you off while you play. To me and most reasonable people, it was a decently average game that caused us zero distress whether we completed it or ditched it for something better. I'm of the argument that The Last Of Us is not for everyone, but those who liked it and saw it to the end seemed to have loved it. There's a lot that was done right and a lot that was done wrong. When compared to a lot of other games in previous years and even this year, it is very average and not really groundbreaking. The only groundbreaking thing about it is the presentation of the story being geared towards someone older than high school age. I actually liked the ending as well (I also liked Phantasy Star II's ending back in the day as well). The people who don't like it, at least here, it seems to be an extremely visceral reaction. And the argument against the game is those who like it are stupid (which isn't really a solid argument). I really want to know what game they think is better than TLOU. Honestly, their lack of enjoyment doesn't bother me in the slightest because it's just video games. I don't like games like 'Splosion Man or Super Meat Boy but I realize those games are not meant for me.

Fat Spanish Waiter
Oh I'm sorry I thought you could figure out that GTA v was a better game than Last of Us on your own.
Bix
The Last of Us definitely lost some of its luster to me when I replayed it to do the New Game +, but I still love the online multiplayer, though it's frustrating if you're not all mic'd up (mics should be mandatory). I'd have to play Tomb Raider again to say it's definitively better. Most disappointing thing about The Last of Us was that the stuff they used to demo the AI, like taking hostages or Ellie helping you out, wasn't especially good in the game. Assassins Creed IV is also excellent, though I haven't finished it yet. Splinter Cell: Blacklist is probably at a level below the top tier, with a terribly shallow story, but it's a really cleverly designed stealth game and the "choose your own play style" aspect is handled better than in The Last of Us. Haven't played Beyond: Two Souls, GTAV, or Arkham Origins yet. Getting all 3 in holiday sales, though. Not really interested in Ni No Kuni as I've never been a big fan of JRPGs. For the purposes of something like this I guess A Wolf Among Us counts as a 2014 game? Overall, definitely a better year than 2012 where The Walking Dead and Sleeping Dogs were #1 & #2 by default. Salads
Looking at my Game Completapedia the only game I've played that was released this year was Proteus, so congratulations Proteus on being my default GOTY. To wade in on the TLOU talk, it's not on my to-play list because though reviews all said it was great, the reasons why they said it was great were unanimously atrocious. assfax
Games I beat this year: Guacamelee (NEEDED A HARDER BOSS FOR GETTING ALL THE MASK PIECES) Bioschlock Infantile (GARBAGE) Dishonored (WEAK FINISH) New Tomb Raider (GARBAGE) DMC (GARBAGE) New Hitman (GARBAGE) Mario U (GODLY) NSMB 2 (DAMN NEAR GARBAGE) Mario 3D land (HOLY SHIT) Metroid Other M (CONTROLS SUCKED, NO REAL LAST BOSS) Games that actually came out this year I haven't beat yet but will win: Link Between Worlds (GAME IS A MOTHERFUCKER) Super Mario World 3D (IF I HADN'T PLAYED THE 3DS ONE THIS WOULD WIN)
Bix
Other than the character development for everyone who's not Lara, what's wrong w/ Tomb Raider?
assfax
Garbage game that built nothing upon all the previous games and mainly ripped off Arkham Asylum and Uncharted. You can play Tomb Raider 2 and get the same bad movie puked upon you. This is my main beef with most new games,. Assasssin's Creed 3 just felt like a Sci-Fi movie with a two hundred million budget. Even the best games now just seem like really bad movies with insane budgets. I will also say that any game that even reaches consideration for any of this horseshit is one of those games that is simply beatable. This means that you are deep in the game and realize that it is easier to beat the game than to stop playing. We have to consider these poor, poor reviewers who've shown themselves to be completely useless.
Andrew POE!
I would love to hear assfax's thoughts on BioShock Infinite being garbage...I can probably guess. The story doesn't make sense and wouldn't be good for a Syfy TV movie, the game is essentially COD with quantum mechanics and a Disney princess AI partner, and the ending depending on who you talk to is either one of the worst endings ever or one of the better endings. That's about right?
