I read somewhere that Vince would take potent figures of black masculinity - Kamala (warrior), Godfather (pimp), even Papa Shango (voodoo sorcerer) - and disempower them by turning them into cartoons. I'd argue taking real bad-ass footballer Ron Simmons and turning him into baby-blue Faarooq was a similar thing. 7

It’s kind of hard to have him be a more authentic pimp when you’re trying to keep advertisers happy. Plus I’d swear Charles Wright said somewhere how much fun he had with that gimmick. Here’s a link that shows who came up with the gimmick (not Vince), and him saying he loves it: https://wrestlingheadlines.com/charles-wright-shares-who-came-up-with-the-godfather-gimmick/ 8

zendragon Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 A lone soul at night sits and bays at the moon Though sometimes he's a man it's a Pentagram Shogun blasts as he runs with the wind But he just can't win it's the Pentagram And now don't know how but it's happening to me Got the love from above but it's happening to me Black cloud hang and it just won't leave Though be tries to believe it's a Pentagram Hard to conceive and he wants to perceive But he's destined to grieve it's the Pentagram Now don't know but it's happening to me Got the love from above but it's happening to me I can't turn back now Stories unfold but they've all been told When he sold his soul to the Pentagram And to end his life though the silver is old He will reach his goal by the Pentagram And now don't know how but it's happening to me Got the love from above but it's happening to me Tell me one more time It's alright I can't turn back now Cause it's the sign of the wolf 4

Insurance companies that are willing to give pro wrestlers health insurance? Or squashing union-aspirations by the boys? Edit. Reading back the thread, this could have also been about mishandling of black characters in pro wrestling, as well. Point stands, on each of these, nevermind which one it was actually referring to... Side note, as someone from Nordic countries, it is really peculiar to see how even the concept of a union is viewed by many in the US. Basically, like they are part of organized crime, or something? Or is that the case, over there? There's probably more being done to help squash unions than there is to bring down drug cartels. At least it seems that way. Edited November 25, 2022 by Shartnado I might have missed the actual point, there...

Socialists and Communists organized labor following the Great Depression, so Big Business said "never again" and has been using the media and corrupt politicians to pound into American's heads that Socialism and Communism is bad, and therefore unions are anti-American Americans are very dumb people who accept terrible living conditions because that's what they've been taught for generations through Capital's gaslighting ("good things should cost money, and if you want good things you should work harder") Edited November 25, 2022 by Dolphman 3000 5 5

I feel bad for you guys. Our strong union tradition has a lot to do with trying to live next to F'n Soviet Union and them constantly spreading propaganda over to the workers. So our society had to create something that works reasonably well for the largest number of people possible. It worked out very well until at least the 70's and despite its problems, our social democracy is a pretty humane way of handling things, all things considered. Now back to wrestling... Zakk_Sabbath Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 We're not dumb, so much as we have literally no choice - the greed is out of control. I was talking with a (I believe) German or Dutch guy in line at Grand Slam and trying to explain the concept of health insurance here, and his mind was pretty blown by the whole thing. I won't get into it here but if I ever re-install discord, I'll polish off the ol' soapbox. 5
Dolphman 3000 Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 (edited) Matt Hardy Reveals Why He & Jeff Left TNA In 2017 Quote "Jeff and I were fully committed to staying with TNA. We loved the stuff we were doing at TNA," Hardy said on "The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy" podcast. "We [The Hardys and Jeff Jarrett] had major differences of opinion in what direction we were all going to go business-wise... If Jeff Jarrett hadn't been there, we wouldn't have gone back to WWE. I think we would've stayed at Impact." Edited November 26, 2022 by Dolphman 3000 2
