With Toni’s entrance being red on black and white noir. I now want AEW to hire Robert Rodriguez to do a semi short film Sin City parody entrance. Luther could do the priest monologue that Marv kills.

Holy shit that was excellent. Not a single match that was unnecessary. I wonder what's gonna happen to the trios titles now? Does Hook come back? Are the titles relinquished? Men's casino BR was fun. Was hoping for a surprise or two, but the guys who were in it have worked hard and deserved the spots. Takeshita, in particular, is the fucking MAN. Tag Title match was fun as hell. Lasher and Shelty are bad motherfuckers. Bad, bad dudes. Cope coming back was pretty awesome. That dude is clearly having fun in AEW and I'm glad he'll get to do his thing with Christian. Women's Casino was also fun. Shotzi B was in the building. I wondered if she'd make an appearance. Athena winning ruled. Dustin Rhodes winning was amazing. Kyle Fletcher is a future cornerstone of AEW but the feel-good moment was necessary. I loved it. Toni & Mercedes got down. That ruled. I was mildly surprised by Toni winning, but what a match. i wonder if Mercedes is gonna start a crashout angle... Okada/Omega wasn't my cup of tea, but for what it was it was incredible. Okada delivered. SwerveSpray/Bucks was incredible. By far the best I've seen the Bucks. They more than held up their end of the deal. Ospreay getting taken out after made sense, but when Swerve didn't also catch a beatdown I was like "oh yeah. He'll show up again later." That main event was perfect. I loved the custom entrance performance for Hanger, and his old theme coming back. I got goosebumps. He is AEW's main character. And imagine thinking Mox isn't the fucking man. Twice now that dude has been like "oh, the company's floundering a bit? Fuck it, we ball." That RULED. Mox is a bad, bad dude. There is no one who could've sustained the hate the Death Riders got for a long time. He was at tv every single week, reminding everyone that he's a menace and should be stopped. It allowed babyfaces to get over and other stories to advance. I hope Mox gets to take some time before coming back & heightening the violence. Great show. Exactly the show AEW needed. Fantastic crowd. 10/10 no notes.

I broke my WWE fast to say sayonara to our good buddy Goldberg. I’m a sucker for wrestling farewells. As far as the match? It was a great way for Goldberg to go out on his sword. His selling was pretty great. Not that he had to. I’m sure them aches and pains were readily apparent. But Goldberg proves once again not every epic has to be 35 minutes. Which if you think about is a pretty big contribution to the business. Gunther gets a pretty great stat on his resumé putting away such a big name. -
I noticed that her last couple matches as well, lots of submission and limb work, far fewer variations on meteoras. It probably helps that Toni Storm is one of the best in the world right and her character work allows for a variety of match structures.
-
i only watched the main events, but both matches delivered big time. Bandido/Takeshita in particular was fucking awesome.
-
Was watching a YouTube highlight recap of the show. For the main, a little touch I hadn’t noticed live, but I don’t think any of the people who ran into help Hangman ever touched Mox. They took out the interference, but left Mox for Hangman to beat himself. That’s cool. They evened the playing field, but didn’t help him win.

That's a pretty fine distinction. To one-up you, I'm going to have to break out the ancient Egyptian nine parts of the soul and identify which wrestler corresponds to which. ...this may take me a while.

I will say, I felt like they telegraphed the upset Dustin win by mentioning a couple of times on commentary how Fletcher was the odds-on favourite. I mean, are you really the favourite when you have 3 opponents, 2 are in a tag team, and all 3 hate your guts? Also, I mean, are they really going to put Dustin in another match when he's just done 2 matches in 24 hours unless he's going over? But I still thought it worked out well, and also obviously seeded the inevitable Sammy Guevara turn. And I like the surprise finish - I mean, that's exactly how you should be trying to win a multi-person match.....don't get me started on that. But more importantly than that, a wrong was righted tonight - a wrong from over 3 years ago. Putting the title on Punk was the right thing on paper, but it was spiritually the wrong thing to do. Which seems like a weird thing to say, but there it is. It's been a journey, but AEW looks vindicated - not really in a 'we win' way, but just more in a 'Brooks belonged on that other show' way. I think Mox doesn't really get enough credit for being the garbage man that could. Was never the chosen one, but became 'that guy' anyway.....and then bet on himself and pro-wrestling to join AEW. Honestly think he's underrated because we live in an era where stuff doesn't get rewatched in the same way as previous eras. Hope he gets a nice long holiday with Renee and...well I hope we see him back before too long in whichever way.

AEW rules the fucking universe. I never smoked cigarettes in my life but I wanted one after the Outrunners came out wearing a Newports design. Then the announcers called it… by name. Which to me was mind blowing considering how the anti-smoking folks tend to react. At least in the United States anyway. I laughed all the way through the match and it was another banger. Especially, since I watched the Collision match earlier in the morning. For me Toni/Mońe stole the show. Piledrivers off the ropes are one of those moves you’d think would’ve happened more often over the years. Same with Camel Clutch/Boston Crab combos. Give that to the Outrunners. Was glad that the facility had cover from the sun. Was glad Okada went over Kenny. Okada is going toward the Main Event in the next year. Hangman has challengers. Was surprised the Jericho was missing from the show. Did that little kid with the abs fuck him off that bad? Mox sold the shit out of that finish. Kudos.

It took me a bit to realize that was Anthony Carrigan. After seeing how awesome he was in Barry, I'm really happy to see him getting big parts like this.

Let's talk Nature Boys ; one a Master of The Ring and one the Last Real World's Champion, Two books on Ric Flair and Buddy Roger respectively both around 300 pages and by Tim Hornbaker. What is there to say about Ric Flair that hasn't been said, the parts that I found most interesting where Flair's early pre-world title work in the 70's, it's just a case where if you've been on this board for a while you know most of the big stories and a lot of his career has been covered in his own book, DVDS and other books like Nitro (which probably goes in to much more depth of his WCW run). Some interesting coverage of his (technically) 2nd WWF run from 91-93 (he worked at least one squash match back in his Thicc Ric days in the 70's). The book on Buddy Roger's is more interesting in that he's before most of our time, I've seen the title switch with Pat O'Connor but only really new him as one of four men to hold the NWA/WCW and WWF title (Flair, Rogers, Savage and Hogan until you get Russo booking the belt in the late 90's) and the first WWF/WWE champ. The book takes its sweat time telling his story spending what feels like an inordinate amount of time on his early years and becoming a big draw working his way up to the NWA belt. (The first non-shooter to hold the title), What's interesting to me is the material about Vince Sr. maneuvering the NWA title onto him then pulling out making him the first WWWF champ (first by claiming that the Thesz lose was non title then later the fictional Rio win). He played a huge role in Capitol Wrestling becoming WWWF and then the behemoth that we are all familiar with today, and sometimes get treated as a footnote. Lots of coverage of the Bruno angle that really allowed him to become a huge draw. Ultimately neither of these books are on my must read list but both have their moments and would recommend them if you have a particular interest in the principles.

Druid is a lot of fun, whether you want to summon a cast of thousands of just transform and rip things apart. I definitely like it better than this game's version of the Barbarian. -
Aaron Judge is the quickest player to hit 350 HR (in terms of number of games) He hit it in his 1088th game. Mark McGwire had previously had the record at 1280 The next active player who will reach 350 will be Bryce Harper who has played in 1720 games so far

Yeah I feel bad for Adam Cole. My guess is that this one of those things where he's maybe not done done, but he's going to be an occasional performer at best. I think, in all honesty, that he had been shuffled way down the card anyway - noone thought he wasn't dropping the belt tonight. So I think we were on a wind-down trajectory anyway. I think he'll be ok, but yeah it sucks even if I've never been as high on him as some.

I am absolutely gutted for Adam Cole. I’m not a fan of his work, but he’s reportedly a wonderful human. I hope this isn’t it for him.

Fighting a man with a perm replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
Well I'm wrecked after that, but the good kind of wrecked. 7 hours including the pre-show is a lot, so I tapped out midway during Omega-Okada but watched the remainder this morning. Was oscillating all night about the result of Texas Death. "It's going on last" - hangman wins. "MJF wins the gauntlet" - hangman wins. "Swerve wins" - oh, maybe Mox wins. "That's a lot of face wins" - shit, Mox is winning! Great work with layout and placement of the show building to the finale. Texas Death was brutal, and both men looked like colossuses(colossi?) out there. Whatever about the storyline, Mox exudes authenticity in his violence in a way that's distinct from his peers. I just love Adam Page like I love Hector Bellerin, I'm fully bought into his story. Juice! What have you done to yourself? Grow that beard back ASAP and ditch the goth Daddy Magic vibes. MJF was the sensible choice and look forward to him haunting Hanger now. Women's gauntlet was a mess in terms of the amount of outside interference but that only added to it's charm. I was on the Willow train but Athena deserves the opportunity. Omega-Okada was....fine....for some reason Okada often leaves me cold. Not doubting his ability or anything, just a personal taste thing. Mone had the best entrance of the night, hands down! Great match, surprising outcome. My one small gripe - at big shows like this, AEW have lots of nice ideas (the whistler for Hangman, Ain't nobody for Swerve, the video for Toni Storm, the Darby Everest video) but the execution often let's them down. I think with entrances, if you add something new beforehand, you can't have a big silent gap before just going into the usual entrance theme and that happened too often. With Darby, it's understandable due to location, but the sound quality on that video was not good. Anyway, just a minor thing I'd love to see them really nail in future. Now to get ready to cheer on Meath to All Ireland glory, Hon the Royals! -
two films this week... First couldn't get enough of cute cuddly tardigrade aliens in Mickey 17? Then Pixar has a film for you in Elio! While not the success of Coco (both films share a creator) this is a very good tale of a misfit kid reaching out to the cosmos with some scene that do rival the Day of the Dead scenes in Coco with the breathtaking colors reminisce of early technicolor films showing what they could do. And a film about people living in quarantine isolation who couldn't relate? 28 years later (must.not.make. Sandra Bullock joke) is actually a coming of age tale. I wonder if the script was in anyway inspired by David Gilmour's (the anthropologist not the guy who replaced Syd) The Making of Masculinity. Where in indigenous cultures had manhood rituals because you needed real men to do things like hunt the mammoth, and you made young males prove their worth (I've thought that films like Fight Club and American Psycho deal with the idea of masculinity in an era where we no long hunt the mammoth). You have a 12 year old boy hunting infected with his father in a manhood ritual, and then going back out with his mother to find a doctor (there's also several scenes that makes me thing of The Rage Virus as analogist for AIDS), some shoots reminded me of Brian De Palma and the overall sense of dread knowing the Zombies could be any where at anytime felt very Hitchcockian, also a good job of a horror film that manages to primarily exist during daylight hours.

All time great feeling show, loved it. Lived up to all expectations and delivered. I think my only disappointment was hoping for more surprises (jeff jarrett) in the Casino. Juice was cool and I liked seeing the Gunns finally pop back up with him. I was a little surprised there had been zero Jericho involvement for a show of this level, even if just a Fozzy show during the week of or something. I thought he was a more likely return here than Cope, thinking tonight would've planted the seeds for Cope returning later but it was cool to do it now. Always wondered how they'd go about reuniting Cope and Christian after everything, but this was a good start. Love the Dustin win. It felt so out of nowhere but I wanna see as many TV defenses as we can get. ROH Tag, ROH Trios, and now TNT champ. Thought for sure Fletcher was winning and then on the finish, I thought Garcia had gotten the pin until the music hit. Great Texas moment Loved Swerve/Ospreay vs Bucks, one of my most anticipated matches. HUGE pop for "Ain't Nobody" getting used for Swerve, always hoped he would use that before his current theme really took off, so that was awesome. I would've probably put money on the Bucks, so I was shocked by the outcome but love it as Ospreay's one of my favs and a fan of Swerve as well. the unpredictability of the event was excellent in that even the more predictable ones still had lots of doubt. thought Toni/Mercedes was legit damn near perfection. The finish was almost exactly was I envisioned it going. Incredible blowoff to an epic feud. Definitely one of my very top favorite matches of the year. Okada/Omega was fun, did feel like somewhat greatest hits version of things. I liked Tony pointing out on the scrum that if it was Continental rules, Callis would be FIRED, so they'll now go back to no more interfering. I was surprised as I thought Omega would be the one guy that could beat Okada after this long 400+ day reign. Incredibly epic main event, great back and forth, wonderful storytelling and the perfect finale. Even still, I was biting on Hangman might lose when the nail bed came in to play and the Bucks coming out after everyone else. Moxley definitely had a hell of a performance as the villain, I could still almost feel sympathy for him seeing him get hung covered in blood. Amazing visual. Agreed with most all of this! I couldn't tell for sure whether Skye was in the match or not, the way she ran out alongside Julia and was later doing spots with Mina and Statlander while the others went on chase to the back. Syuri was a cool surprise while I was still bummed Deonna got left out entirely. Great night of wrestling.

According to Alvarez (yeah), Cole was injured on the lariat from Fletcher on Thursday's Collision. If true, it's probably another concussion and we all remember how long it took for him to come back last time. Pure speculation, but he might be considering retirement or been suggested by the AEW medical team to consider it given his history.

Is there a bigger name that I'm missing? Cyril Gane has the same recent record with 3 wins in 4 fights and has had two title shots as well. Not a tone of name value in the division -
It's a cool theme in a vacuum but stuff like that works way better if it's Japan, or combined with one of his existing themes to act as an intro or something.

I could hear Casey's cries from across the pond when Kenny Omega came out to Take Flight. ;).
